Orphaned non-free image (Image:Tristan und Isolde beginning clip.ogg)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Tristan und Isolde beginning clip.ogg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you.

I have uploaded Image:Wagner Tristan opening (orchestral).ogg as a replacement to Wikimedia Commons as it is free content. Graham87 01:25, 11 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'm not an admin but I think it'd be fine for you to delete it yourself - just note that you were the uploader, you request its deletion and there's a free content alternative now. It could also be tagged with {{db-author}} and deleted under CSD G7. Graham87 01:58, 11 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sheqel sign

edit

Hi. You drew the sheqel symbol quite wrong, in its with, height, and style, so I reverted it. I'm not sure why you didn't use a font for it. Epson291 22:40, 5 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I'll look into it to inkscape, it would propably be more useful if I did it then, but as for the height, the shekel sign is the same height as the standard Hebrew letter, which is smaller then numbers. i.e, ₪4, so it can't be the same height. Also, you made it too narrow and in my opinion, you drew the corners too much. But anyways, I'll look into it and if I can't figure it out, I'll report back to you. Though, it's probably better I figure it out since I've made other png's of text. Epson291 00:11, 6 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
OK, I did it, but it doesn't seem to upload right, it looks fine in Inkscape but not here, I exported to PNG to show what it is supposed to look like, do you have to do anything special with non-Latin fonts, because the Hebrew just didn't come through (Does it look right on your computer?). The one on the left is SVG and on the right, PNG. Thanks a lot. (I probably don't understand how SVG works or something)Epson291 03:20, 6 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

New cleanup image.

edit

Er... I'd just like to say that I disagree with adding this new image to all those templates. Was there a discussion on this somewhere? I think text works fine for the purpose. I have two other concerns: first, it makes these tags noticeably fatter. Wikipedia articles look ridiculous if the most of the entire first screen is taken up by tags, which may well happen with the much-expanded size of these templates thanks to the images. Many of these tags are already sufficiently well-sized to warn readers and encourage improvement. Secondly... I'm not sure this image is that useful, frankly. A broom for "cleanup" helps and directly adds to the article; I'm not sure if this question mark is all that useful. SnowFire 21:41, 10 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

thanks for the help cleaning up my additions/revisions on the SUNY G entry (i'm pretty new at this). That seal

edit

Re Image:Seal of Livingston County, New York.jpg: for a definite answer to the question you asked at the mailing list, you'll have to ask a lawyer. But maybe reading Wikipedia:Copyright on emblems may already help. In my view, the law that was quoted to you is inapplicable to our use. First, the image does not show the seal. It shows a wood carving of the seal. (So, if at all, you'd have to worry about whether the wood carving was a copyrighted work, as your photo is a derivative work of the carving.) Second, we are not "using" the seal. We are showing it. If we switched the layout of the Wikipedia sites to show this image instead of the Wikipedia logo, then we'd be "using" it, and might get into trouble. The point with insignia laws as the one quoted is that they're intended to prevent misuses of the seal, i.e., someone using the seal to imply an affiliation with or endorsement by the county when there is no such affiliation or endorsement. It's also the reason why there is {{insignia}} on the image description page. In summary: I wouldn't worry about it. But, as I said, for a definite answer, ask a lawyer. Maybe contact User:Mikegodwin, the Foundation's legal counsel. Lupo 07:44, 22 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Geneseo Historic District article

edit

Thanks for checking in at my talk page regarding Geneseo Historic District article, which you suggested could be merged into the Geneseo, New York. In fact I do not wish for it to be merged, as I believe that the district is itself very noteworthy as it is a National Historic Landmark and it is a different thing than the village of Geneseo itself and even more different than the township. In some other experience, I have found it necessary to split off a historic district article from one about a township and/or village; here the split may not seem so obviously necessary at first. Your inquiry was reasonable as the stub article that i created, in a rush to complete out the List of National Historic Landmarks in New York, was so very short. It prompted me to do some expansion of the historic district article just now. I intend for it eventually to include a complete listing of the 283 contributing properties included in the district, ample information about which is included in the 82 page National Historic Landmark nomination document that is a reference to the article. Reading that document, also it is clear that the boundaries of the district are not coterminous with the boundaries of Geneseo itself. There are considerable parts of Geneseo outside the historic district, that are somewhat described already in the Geneseo article. The Geneseo article should be edited to include short description of the historic district, once the district article itself is expanded. Also, by the way, further up my talk page under "October update", User:Daniel Case had expressed interest in visiting Geneseo Historic District to take pictures, as he has done for many NRHP and NHL properties in New York State, although he has no specific plan to go there now. I might edit pictures from the NRHP photo set, if those are public domain. Sincerely, doncram 18:38, 10 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your reply. It would really be super if you could take pictures. As many pictures as you see fit to compose could be used to illustrate any number of the streets involved or any number of the contributing properties. Maybe we could start with 5-10? Take a look at List of National Historic Landmarks in New York, too. I think there are numerous other western and central NY NHLs that lack any photo whatsoever, while Daniel Case has covered almost all the Hudson River valley ones. I am nowhere near, myself; my most recent picture contribution was for Glassell Park Elementary School in Los Angeles. doncram 20:26, 10 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
I came back and visited your photos in the Geneseo, New York article. Good stuff. I see you are up to speed on the process of uploading and using photos, great. doncram 17:19, 11 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'm taking just the five-bar gate part as a guide to making a 24-pixel-height image for the Numbering systems section of 5 (number). It would be cool if you could redo Image:Tally_marks-Five-bar_Gate.svg in Inkscape. Because when I do it in Adobe Illustrator, it sucks. --dbabbitt (talk) 13:52, 14 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Need help with cite-format (article almost ready for another FAC)

edit

Hi. I hope you don't mind me dropping in uninvited. I found you at the Citation cleanup project. You see, the article on Sitakunda Upazila failed an FAC mostly because of cite-format issues (inconsistent format, missing bits of information etc.). I have fixed all the issues raised, but, I feel, an expert hand may be needed to fix further problems. Would you take a look? Please? I, of course will be there to provide any clarification or information necessary. Aditya(talkcontribs) 13:41, 21 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

The current version is indeed a copyvio. Do you want to have a go at fixing it? If not, I'm afraid I'll have to vote for deletion, or speedy delete the article when I come home in an hour or 2. - Mgm|(talk) 13:32, 17 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

  • I don't oppose articles on obscure festivals, but I'm pretty sure someone is going to complain because all the sources are closely related to the event. Can you dig up any references from papers or magazine or websites outside the town of Alfred? I tried, but the only thing I could find was a whole bunch of references to National Hot Dog Day and other events by the same name. - Mgm|(talk) 20:48, 17 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for File:Dmitri Shostakovich - String Quartet No. 8 - V. Largo (clip).ogg

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Dmitri Shostakovich - String Quartet No. 8 - V. Largo (clip).ogg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

edit

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion, guidelines for use at WP:MINOR). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and all users will still be able to manually mark their edits as being minor in the usual way.

For well-established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 21:06, 15 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
