Old Flag of France

Hello. Please don't enter the royal standard () as national flag of the Kingdom of France. Its national flag was the white Drapeau blanc (File:Flag of the Kingdom of France.png), not the lily banner (see articles about the flag of France in the anglophone, francophone, German, etc. wikipedia). As France was an Absolute Monarchy under the Bourbons, particularly with Louis XIV, in which France was the personal possession of the king (encapsulated in the possibly apocryphal, but nevertheless indicative, quote by Louis XIV: "L'État est Moi"), the Royal Flag of France should be used for the period 1624-1789. The Fleur de Lís of the ruling Bourbon family imposed on the white field of that flag demonstrates this. The idea of a 'national flag' predominating a royal flag at this time is an anachronism as the modern Nationalism idea of the French nation only comes into existence during the revolution. It appears there were at least 4 flags in general use: 1. White field with 3 gold fleur de lís( changed from the Valois dynasty blue field), 2. White field with many fleurs and the royal coat of arms in center, 3. White field with many fluers, 4. Plain white field. Adding to the general confusion, the royal french army carried a number of flags with each regiment having 2 colors, at least: the regimental color (drapeau d'ordonnonce) and a colonel's color( drapeau-colonel), the colonel's color is usually a white cross on a white field and there may have been similar all white flags for generals - this may account for the flag in the painting above. Lib Dem colours

Baaryob I've left the discussion up at both locations for over six months for anyone to give their opinions. All those given where that the same colour should be used for all Liberal Democrats and that the correct one was in use. Map at Kingdom of Scotland

Hi. Not quite sure why you reverted the change to the map at Kingdom of Scotland. New version is simply a zoomed in version of the old map, bringing the scale to that approximating to the map at the Scotland article. Since your move of the aforementioned article to House of Commons of the United Kingdom last February seems to have passed without a comment (so far as I can see), perhaps it would be equally uncontroversial to move Speaker of the House of Commons, in order to resolve the current mismatch. Irish constituency maps

Hi Barryob, you created all the RoI constituency maps like Image:Cork East (Dáil Éireann constituency).png. I was wondering if there was one of the Republic of Ireland with the current constituencies drawn but without any of the constituencies highlighted? Likewise for the Dublin constituencies. This is one fuck of a coincidence (sorry for the foulmouthiness, but the extra workload implied by today's ToL rejection is...well, it's so big that the English language has not yet developed a word for it) but http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/1b/Results_of_the_June_2008_referendum_on_the_Twenty-eighth_Amendment_of_the_Constitution_of_Ireland.png here may fit your bill. The reason why I'm here in the first place is to ask User:Barryob if he could rattle off a SVG map of same, since he seems to be SVG map dude. I think the constituencies in May 2007 (election) are the same as the 2007 Oireachtas map, accessed from here: please point out if I've got it wrong. The Brown page is quite different. Dunfermline East was abolished and most of the constituency became Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath. With Salmond however, he was the MSP for Banff and Buchan until 2001 when Stewart Stevenson took over, then Salmond became MSP for Gordon in 2007. Lisbon Treaty - Belgian federative entity governments

I really don't get what you are talking about: In Belgium, for a federal bill to become the law of the land, it must be approved by the federal parliament and then receive Royal Assent (the King being part of the federal level only). For every federative entity, it's just the same - approval by the relevant parliamentary assembly and assent by the entity's government. How can you mention the assent on the federal level, but not the assents on the level of the different federative entities? There is strictly no difference between the legal value and necessity of these different assents! And an international treaty cannot be ratified without the approval by a law/decree/ordinance of every entity whose competencies are concerned (in the case of the Lisbon treaty all entities are concerned). Finally, there is no "hierarchy" with some kind of superiority of the federal level either; where a treaty would concern regional and community matters but not touch on federal competencies, no federal Act of Assent is needed and thus no Royal Assent, but indeed the approval of the competent assemblies and the assent of the regional/community governments.

I can find you the relevant sources in legislation if you need it (in French or Dutch - and when I have the time...), but in the meantime take it from me that I do have a Belgian law degree and I know what I'm talking about. Sigur (talk) 21:28, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

Using Whyte as a source for Government discrimination isn't quite wrong, but is a gross simplification. "The most serious charge against the Northern Ireland government is not that it was directly responsible for widespread discrimination, but that it allowed discrimination on such a scale over a substantial segment of Northern Ireland. Hi Barry, I notice you removed my entry for Scotland the Brave from the Scotland entry as a National Anthem. Someone linking to the page for the National Anthem of Scotland might end up a little confused: on the Scotland page there is only one 'de facto' entry, yet on the National Anthem page there are several. Hi. Can you discuss this in talk rather than straight delete it? (i'm out in a sec, but it will guaranteed get discussion). It's been linked to a number of times over the post month. There is another possible place (nearer MOS) on Wikipedia for the tables and the link if it needs to be moved - so there needn't be a gap where it a dead link. The admins watching the page have been ok with it so far, although Waggers asked me to remove the 'WP:' part. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check
