I made this difference and it has been called no improvement and ridiculed in haiku. [sarcasm warning!] Great place this.Barnyard animals (talk) 23:10, 30 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Reception for Bulbasaur edit

Hiya! Remember me from the Bulbasaur page? Just wondering, do you know of some websites where we could find stuff to fill up this section? Leave a response below, if you so choose. Regards, Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 07:35, 30 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

When trying to find internet sources for Bulbasaur, as I'm sure you've found, one problem is the amount of noise there is out there generally. When you try a search through news archives, again you loads of results, almost all you have to pay for to see, though a good amount of these are probably like those talked about when discussing notability, that journalists use Bulbasaur by name as an example when writing about "the pokemon craze" and "pokemon banned from school" type articles. I would still like it noted that that in itself is one reason for an article with as much as we know about this character is correct. I think Wikipedia ought to have reasonable information on the characters that are regularly listed in reports, if the notability guidelines don't say that, they should. And Bulbasaur should be there up there alongside Pikachu and Squirtle, if they are, as I note, the most listed. To reduce the noise from the search results and as this character was created by Japanese people, the project should ask about for a Japanese speaker to search for "フシギダネ"+"杉森建" (Bulbasaur+"Ken Sugimori") and "フシギダネ"+"田尻智" (Bulbasaur+"Satoshi Tajiri") there are a number of results for these, we might be even be able to track an English version of it.

I'll repost the links to some of the articles, where Bulbasaur named in a "My son now goes about saying Bulbasaur and Pikachu" way-

  • BBC article naming only two examples are Pikachu and Bulbasaur; Potter takes on Pokémon has "Pikachu, Bulbasaur and their kin are about to be swept aside by a new fad - Harry Potter collectable cards."
  • Herald Tribune (Florida) article opens with "Just when I'd figured out the difference between Bulbasaur, Wartortle and the other Pokemon characters"
  • CBBC Newsround article second para is "In Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team you become a Pokemon and have to rescue others, like Pikachu, Squirtle and Bulbasaur, from the dungeon."
  • Washington Post" entertainments article "My son Andrew, an 8-year-old connoisseur of Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Squirtle and the other pint-size, squeaking, beeping creations in the Pokemon universe"
  • Virtual FormGuide - a racing site - a horse has been named "Bulbasaur"
  • Houston Chronicle talking about the company who brought you "a squadron of battling fluff balls with hilarious names (Jigglypuff, Squirtle, Bulbasaur)".

Oh and another thing (sorry I am ranting but...) The reason I got told for the removal of the Carmen Miranda reference was that it was a joke. Well if the press made jokes about the character, isn't that "reception". I still don't understand why its not allowed to have a cite that makes a joke about the subject of article though.Barnyard animals (talk) 23:10, 30 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Reception is generally hard to come by for subjects such as these. Those reviews you have are good too. What we really need is information from useful sites that depict how well the subject is received by fans. I like how Naruto here and Yellow sets it up, that's kind of what I'm aiming for. I think the only reliable links I came across for Bulbasaur was this and a blog. Suggestions? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 03:18, 31 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
It's been nearly a month since we've spoken and I'd still love to nominate Bulbasaur at WP:GAN. The main problem is that this section's empty. Did you decide to take a pause or something? Ah, I should tell you that I asked for advice here. Hope that inspires you. Thoughts? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 06:35, 20 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
