Question about the article "Oceanic Flight 815"

edit

Hello, you previously voted to delete this article and was wondering if you'd take another look at it. I have done it all up and many users have changed their original nomination to delete to keep including the original nominator. I have removed the fancruft and moved it to a new name Oceanic Flight 815. Please take a look and if its good enough please consider changing your vote to keep.

Thanks

Thank you!

edit

Hi, Banes,

Thank you so much for the barnstar! I really appreciate it, and even more, your kind words accompanying it. THANK YOU! It means a lot to me.

I have thought of becoming an administrator, but I have been waiting thus far until I get to be a little better known...I'm on the Welcoming Committee, so I have a chance to see a lot of sockpuppets and vandals, so I could really use the block power. What would you suggest?

As for violin peices, right now I'm working on Bach's Partita No. 2 (Movement Gigue) and Sonata No. 1 (Movement Siciliano). I really like all of Bach's solo works, and also Mozart's Violin Concerto. That's from the stuff I play. I LOVE Tchaikovsky's concerto, but I can't play it yet.

Thanks again for your kind note. Merry Christmas!--ViolinGirl 18:53, 24 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the compliment, but I'm sure you overrate me as a violinist. You know, it's not what you play, but how well you play it. But I am working hard at it...or, I'm trying to work hard. (Trying is almost as hard as doing!) What are you playing? I'm glad to know you're a violinist. It seems like there are actually very few violinist (or musicians, for that matter) on Wikipedia, but I am meeting more.
Regarding adminship: Thanks for the vote of confidence (figuratively speaking). Before "meeting" you, I had been looking over previous RfA's, and I understand completely what you mean about people not liking to make administrators out of people who haven't been here that long.
About AfD...I sort of have been working around there, using {{d}} or {{db}}, but thanks for pointing me to the page. I wanted to work on something like that, but couldn't find it. I will definately be part of that now, too. Thanks!
And finally, about always marking my edits as minor: Weeeeell, most of my edits are minor! Right now I have my preferences set to always show them as minor, and if it is some bigger work, I forget to unclick it, usually. I'm erring on the side of minor instead of major (not musically speaking!) so that people don't get worried that I'm doing a lot of big damaging stuff. Think I should change it and err on the side of major? Don't worry about getting back to me quickly...it's Christmas Eve, right? :)--ViolinGirl 20:34, 24 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
Oh, okay. I will change my preferences then. Thanks for letting me know about that. And I will take your advice about where I'm editing. I had been thinking I should be more involved with the actual encyclopedia than talk page material. So, again, thanks for the advice. No, I don't have Cryptoderk's Vandal Fighter...mind explaining it to me when you get a chance? If it's anything with monobook whatever, you'll need to do some major explaining, because I can't begin to understand that! Thanks!--ViolinGirl 18:38, 25 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, it looks a little confusing. I'm going to be busy for a little bit now, but I'll look it over more closely later, and if I'm still having trouble, I'll let you know. Thanks for your help again!--ViolinGirl 18:50, 25 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Well, you asked for it and I granted it. Since Angela has made me admin, I decided to protect the Main Page of the Wikicity and created a section for a featured article and pro wrestling news. I know there wasn't to many articles but it was the best looking one there was. I know you aren't a big fan of wrestling but I thought I might fill you in on what I did, how does it look? — Moe ε 01:30, 25 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

CDVF program

edit

Ok, I got it downloaded, and it looks like the screen shot. I'm still kind of confused. When I click on something under the "Article" column, am I supposed to be able to go to the article with that click? Because I get an error message, "There was a problem sending the command to the program."--ViolinGirl 01:12, 26 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Oh. No, I have Mozilla Firefox, so that's not my problem. How do I open the program in my internet browser? I think that will solve my problems. (Sorry to have to pick your brain all the time about this, but it looks like a good idea...)--ViolinGirl 16:34, 26 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, it's working fine. I actually saw your edit to my user talk on there without ever getting the "new message" notice. The only problem is when I click on an article name or whatever, it doesn't take me to the page. Hm...maybe I will use the discussion page...thanks for your help so far...I'm beginning to figure it out.--ViolinGirl 16:43, 26 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
Thanks so much for all your help during the busy time of the holidays. I'm heading over to the CryptoDerk's site to ask them about it. Yeah, typing it in isn't all that helpful, so I'll see if they can give me a hand. I'll drop you a line later if I need help. Thanks again!--ViolinGirl 16:51, 26 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
PS Thanks about my welcome message. I'll fix that ASAP, too!

Thank you!

Wow, that program is really helpful, even if the link doesn't work. Here's my thank you list:

  • for adding a link to Friedrich Seitz's page
  • for adding the link to Jean-Baptiste Accolay's page
  • for signing for me at the CDVF program talk page...(I was a little excited, I guess!)
  • for all your help to me today and yesterday! Thanks...

--ViolinGirl 17:02, 26 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

BTW, I didn't mention, but I took your advice (if you didn't notice) and put up the little red light, green light, yellow light thing...I see how that will work out wonderfully! Oh, and the CDVF program is working beautifully now, too! What a help!--ViolinGirl 16:36, 27 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Help?

edit

Hey, Banes, I was working on CDVF today, and I noticed I was on the temp blacklist, and also, that none of my contribs were being listed in my contrib list. Am I on a temp. block that I can't see or something? I don't think I did anything wrong, except I added {{d}} to an article by User:Ron becker, who had been causing trouble. Hope I'm not in trouble...I didn't mean to do anything wrong...--ViolinGirl 23:48, 27 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! I see exactly what you mean. Sounds good! Just the advice I needed. Like I told Tito...I consider you all (you, Tito and Sango my mentors here. What would I do without you? ;)--ViolinGirl 12:55, 29 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Ok. Well, just tell me when and I'll nominate you. I just can't believe you aren't one yet! All this time, I was like, "Oh, yeah, if I ever need help with something, (and I was thinking, admin-wise) I'll give Banes a message." I definately think you are qualified enough. And, here's what I would put in the nominating comment thing...eh hem!
Banes is a terrific user with about 2,300 edits. Good, communiticating user, with about 800 user talk edits and about 900 article edits. Kind, thoughtful user, and a great vandal blocker. I think the administrator tool of rollback would help this already speedy reverter to be even faster.

Something like that. eh? Anyway, as I said, just let me know, and you'll be nominated. You definately deserve it!--ViolinGirl 22:20, 2 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Banes! I didn't know you were homeschooled...I've been homschooled all my life! Very cool! Also, can you link me to the admin coaching thing (mentioned one header above me)? I lost the link somewhere and it would be helpful if you could link me to it? Thanks!--ViolinGirl 00:37, 4 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, I'm looking forward to the admin coaching. Should be good! I've been in ATI for several years, that's mainly what my family uses. I'm actually graduating about two years early, but I'm so confused anyway about what "grade" I'm in, it doesn't really matter. I'm using CLEP exams to get college credit early, so that's how I can be so loose about the grade system. It looks like you're doing cool stuff with your education, as well, right now...(?)--ViolinGirl 12:03, 4 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
I'm getting my BA from Thomas Edison State College right now as I "finish up" high school. After that, I hope to go to a big name music school for my MM (masters of music), and then hopefully (if I can, I'm not a millionairre) a Ph.D or whatever they call an equivalent degree in music. For now,--ViolinGirl 01:05, 5 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Re: Coaching

edit

That sounds great! We should probably ask ViolinGirl whether she prefers interacting on #wikipedia-esperanza or her talk page (time zones need to be taken into account for both). I guess we could begin by analyzing edit count proportions and making suggestions on areas of improvement, ensuring she's familiar with policies and guidelines, and maybe creating "What would you do in this situation?" scenarios. But all in all, ViolinGirl is already an outstanding candidate. :) What do you think? Sango123 (talk) 19:18, 8 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. I eavesdropped on your conversation with Sango, and am really excited about this. If you haven't noticed, Sunday's my best day, and I can't be on a ton because of school and stuff, but I think we can work it out pretty well seomtime.--ViolinGirl 19:56, 8 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Did you redo your userpage?, It looks really good...I have almost zero artistic ability.--MONGO 12:36, 10 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Admin coach? Anyway, Sango did good. I just happened to notice that Phaedriel voted for Rogerd right after I uploaded his nomination for admin and I sometimes check out userpages of folks I am not familiar with, noticed she is partially Native American, had a dandy userpage and so I tried to see where her interests lay as far as editing. I guess she felt I helped her enough to warrant creating the page for me......I even got chewed out by (joking) User:Aaron Brenneman [1] and she noticed that and then fixed up his userpage. And I hoped that I was the only special one...oh well!:)--MONGO 12:53, 10 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Oh, I saw that, sorry for sounding dumb...oh gee, I am probably so deep in stuff, but surely later on, if anyone wants my help...been busy with Shoshone National Forest, and as a spin off Glacial recession, fighting the POV'ers at September 11 attacks and Collapse of the World Trade Center, and at Bigfoot, plus some espionage articles as well. I think I'm watching too many controversial pages at this time, plus trying to do RC patrol and afd's...pretty much means I have NO LIFE! Ha!--MONGO 13:07, 10 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well, help all you want...help is always appreciated...the bigfoot article needs a complete rewrite and there is a guy there that has his own wikipedia article on him (Erik Beckjord) that is convinced that Bigfoot travels through wormholes and or that he may be a space alien even, he also hangs out around the Loch Ness Monster article and other strange places like that...it's almost funny, and maybe a little sad...I kind of like the guy actually, even though it is certain he vandalized my userpage and has created sock accounts.--MONGO 13:22, 10 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Your edits to this article have been reverted: You augmented another editor's paragraphs that were written POV (some of which is pure conjecture and is unencyclopedic anyway); further, absolutely none of it is sourced. Feel free to research legitimate sources for the material and include only that which is relevant to an encyclopedia. RadioKirk talk to me 13:56, 10 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thats fine, if you noticed, my edits were only correcting some word spacing errors, I didnt add the paragraph (I thought it looked a little fancrufty to me). I am not familiar with the article and thus was not aware of whether or not the paragraph was an accepted part of the article. I only tidied it. Cheers Banes 15:10, 10 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
I did notice, in fact; I probably should have typed something to the effect that your edits disappeared as part of the purge. When editing an article, if you see something that is clearly POV, conjecture, unencyclopedic and/or unsourced (to name a few), don't be afraid to purge it. :) RadioKirk talk to me 15:23, 10 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
