Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Emmanuel ngara.jpg

- Hello. A low resolution picture is fine is the person in the photograph is dead or a recluse or otherwise impossible/very difficult to photograph. Otherwise it generally won't be OK to use a press/promo picture unless they were famous for their appearance and it has now changed or if the picture shows a famous scene or something like that. This page tries to cover the main sorts of cases when it is usually OK or usually not OK to use a non-free picture. Hope this makes sense. If not, please let me know. The Lemba Hypothesis
Dear Professor Babakathy,
For some years, I have been engaged in research on the nature and origin of the Ancient Zimbabwean Civilization. It seems sensible to try and share with others the results of that work, and to invite comments and criticisms so as to expand and if necessary correct my views.
Thus, it would be constructive to add a link to my article – i.e. http://DLMcN.com/anczimb.html – from your page at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Great-Zimbabwe-2.jpg … Can you please advise me what is the correct procedure for doing that?
This is unfortunately a very sensitive political topic, and it is true that in the past the Rhodesian Government was guilty of not discussing it in a rational, scientific manner – as Paul Sinclair mentions. But we do need to ensure that a similar "censorship" is not now being applied in the opposite direction.
In that regard, my website cites several books and articles on Ancient Zimbabwe which either fail to mention the (partly Semitic) Lemba tribe – whose homeland is now just south of the Limpopo – or else the writers completely misrepresent that community. Protocol and etiquette prompted me to contact those authors to invite suggestions for modifying my wording.
The "Lemba hypothesis" is of course the principal rival of the officially accepted "Shona theory" for the source of the Zimbabwean Civilization.
I have inquired from various academics exactly what they think constitutes "conclusive proof" that the Shona created that ancient civilization – and they point to the artefacts and huts which have been found in and around the various ruins. I ask why those could not have been placed there after the Shona crossed the Zambesi and expelled or absorbed the earlier inhabitants – but I have never received an answer.
Incidentally, I am not claiming that a Semitic connection has been demonstrated beyond all doubt – just that that are several unanswered questions which need to be addressed before we can regard the matter as completely settled. DLMcN (talk) 17:27, 24 January 2010 (UTC)
