Welcome to Wikipedia! edit

Hello BSTRhino, welcome to Wikipedia!

Here are some tips:

If you feel a change is needed, feel free to make it yourself! Wikipedia is a wiki, so anyone (yourself included) can edit any article by following the Edit this page link. Wikipedia convention is to be bold and not be afraid of making mistakes. If you're not sure how editing works, have a look at How to edit a page, or try out the Sandbox to test your editing skills.

If, for some reason, you are unable to fix a problem yourself, feel free to ask someone else to do it. Wikipedia has a vibrant community of contributors who have a wide range of skills and specialties, and many of them would be glad to help. As well as the wiki community pages there are IRC Channels, where you are more than welcome to ask for assistance.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask me on my talk page. Thanks and happy editing, Alphax τεχ 04:00, 11 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Hey there! edit

Hey BSTRhino! Thanks for dropping by my talk page. Actually, you should thank the mysterious "fellow admin not-logged-in"' at IP 131.155.69.249. I have no idea who this Wikipedian is, but he or she was instrumental in pointing out that the link should be fixed. I was just the admin that deleted the target page so that the move could be performed.

If you're interested, this "requested move" was posted at WP:RM on August 24. As always, feel free to leave me a message if you ever need help with something - I'll do my best to help out. Oh, and a little tip: lots of Wikipedia pages have shortcuts, just look at the upper corner of the page to see a tiny icon which tells you what the shortcut is at the top. WP:RM is a shortcut for Wikipedia:Requested moves for example.

On a completely unrelated note, would you consider helping out at the reference desk? We recently split the desk into 4 categories. Perhaps you might be able to help out with some technical computing questions sometimes asked at the "science and technology" subpage of the WP:RD? Just put the page on your watchlist, and browse through the questions whenever you feel like it. Or better yet, put all the reference desk subpages on your watchlist - sometimes there are quite a few interesting questions which pop up. That's all there is to it. Cheers, and I'll see you around the Wiki! --HappyCamper 12:43, 26 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Jadelogo.PNG edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Jadelogo.PNG. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 23:27, 13 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (Image:RickRolledAstonia.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:RickRolledAstonia.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 09:51, 2 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

File source problem with File:JADE (programming language) logo.png edit

Thank you for uploading File:JADE (programming language) logo.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Proposed deletion of Secondary database server edit

The article Secondary database server has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The coverage (references, external links, etc.) does not seem sufficient to justify this article passing Wikipedia:General notability guideline and the more detailed Wikipedia:Notability (software) requirement. If you disagree and deprod this, please explain how it meets them on the talk page here in the form of "This article meets criteria A and B because..." and ping me back through WP:ECHO or by leaving a note at User talk:Piotrus. Thank you.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
