Rewrite Hag? edit

Hi Boz and other D&D Wikiproject members. I came across this article: Stang, Sarah, and Aaron Trammell. "The ludic bestiary: Misogynistic tropes of female monstrosity in Dungeons & Dragons." Games and Culture 15.6 (2020): 730-747. It uses the D&D Hag as a case study. The analysis extends over several pages. It goes a long way to justifying a stand alone Wikipedia article on the Hag. What is the story with "The Monsters Know What They're Doing?" Is is accepted at AfD as a reliable source (Saga is an imprint of Simon & Schuster)? I saw some AfD debates dismiss it because it was originally a blog, but I don't think there's any blue ink argument that justifies excluding this book, especially when a discussion in it is not about in-game mechanics. Between the peer-reviewed discussion of Hags, the Amman book, and a few other sources an article on Hags might survive AfD. Boz, is there anyway to draftify the re-directed version and I can work on it? if anyone wants that article I am happy to email it. AugusteBlanqui (talk) 14:44, 27 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

I moved it to draft per your request. I am also seeing that Daranios had found the same source you mention, per a note I left on the article's talk page: https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/1555412019850059 and also added that source to List of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd edition monsters where I also saw a potential source involving hags and lower planar larva: http://rave.ohiolink.edu/etdc/view?acc_num=bgsu1573729920432102 BOZ (talk) 15:27, 27 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Boz! I'll tip away at it over the next few weeks. AugusteBlanqui (talk) 17:59, 27 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Hey AugusteBlanqui, thanks for starting this. I think the main issue taken in deletion discussions with Ammann's The Monsters Know What They're Doing was that it only deals with game mechanics. Some - not me - have taken this to mean it should count as a primary source. This view also neglects that the book does have some other commentary, like which inspirations a specific monsters has. That, however, is not the case for every monster. Not sure how it is for the hag(s). Daranios (talk) 10:32, 29 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
