Marking amendments as minor edit

Hi B'art homme, Thanks for your recent amendment to Summer City (Wellington). I note that you have marked your edit as minor. Please have a look at WP:MINOR. Only edits consisting solely of spelling corrections, formatting changes, or rearrangement of text without modification of the content should be flagged as minor edits. Thanks again for your work. :) Marshelec (talk) 05:01, 27 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thank you Marshall... can I revese it? and how can I fix the red bits on the # 41 reference? b'art homme 19:37, 27 February 2023 (UTC)
Don't worry about reversing the minor tag on previous edits. I am not aware of anyway of doing this. With regards to the error in the reference, you will see that it is asking for a title. The cite web template requires a title. So the easiest way to fix this is: (a) go to the source of the citation (ie open the url) to review and identify what would be an appropriate title for that source, (b) note where the citation reference number is in the Wikipedia article, (c) open the article for editing (in this explanation I will assume you will use the visual editor, not the source editor), (d) go to the place in the article where the citation reference number is, hover over the citation number that needs fixing and left click to bring up a small pop-up window, (e) click on the Edit button that will have appeared in the popup window (this gives you access to edit all the fields in the citation template, and add more if you need to) (f) add the title into the correct field in the template (g) when done, click on Apply Changes, (h) back in the main editor window, click on "Publish changes". Speedy deletion nomination of Bruce Bisset edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Bruce Bisset, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:

  • It is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. (See section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Wikipedia has standards for the minimum necessary information to be included in short articles; you can see these at Wikipedia:Stub. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
  • It appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), individual animal, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. (See section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Happy Editing! -I Followed The Username Policy (talk) 22:18, 8 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Talk page management edit

Kia ora Barry, it's generally regarded as appropriate that you archive your talk page items rather than blank the page. There's no need to archive everything, e.g. if you receive monthly notifications from a user group or newsletters, you can simply delete those once you've read those. But for discussions in particular, it's best if you set up an archive. Most editors use a bot. Personally, I prefer to do this manually. WP:OWNTALK gives some general guidance. Help:Archiving a talk page tells you how you go about setting this up. If you need a hand with any aspect, please say. For example, if there are specific items in the talk page history, point out what these are and I can restore them for you for archiving. If you reply here, I'll see it (eventually; I've added your talk page to my watchlist). Say if you need a hand with anything. Schwede66 00:00, 23 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Signatures edit

When you add something to a talk page, you need to also add a signature. That will show that the contribution is from you and it will give it a timestamp. Wikipedia:Signatures explains how to do that. Schwede66 21:22, 11 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thank you so much... I'm still having trouble locating the signature button.... does four of these do it??? b'art homme 22:28, 11 April 2023 (UTC) b'art homme 22:28, 11 April 2023 (UTC)
You can manually type four tildes (top left of a QWERTY keyboard), like so: ~~~~ Schwede66 22:59, 11 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yes thank you b'art homme 23:14, 11 April 2023 (UTC) b'art homme 23:14, 11 April 2023 (UTC)
But you are still not doing it. There are two time stamps with your last message; one presumably from your signature and the other that you've manually added. Four tilde characters is all that's needed. Schwede66 02:53, 12 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Can you give me feedback on the improvements to Art Intervention please? b'art homme 06:00, 18 April 2023 (UTC)

Another editor Hi there, I've been approached by a friend of a friend who has been involved in green engineering and politics for decades who has written a draft article on the Vacant lot of cabbages. As it's his first rodeo on wiki I suspect he needs guidance I wonder can I introduce you to him? b'art homme 03:05, 17 April 2023 (UTC)

I think it would be better to have broader input and not just me. If your friend's friend has the draft somewhere, say where it is and I'll post about it on the NZ notice board. Schwede66 19:22, 17 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi there, Thank you - I'll go to tea house (without passing go) especially to see if I can get why my signatures are doubling up b'art homme 21:57, 3 September 2023 (UTC) b'art homme 21:57, 3 September 2023 (UTC)
When you use the "reply tool" through clicking the link that says "reply", it signs your post automatically. Hence if you add the four tildes manually, you'll have doubled up your signature. Pro-tip: When not hitting the reply tool, hit the "show preview" button before saving. Then you'll see if something isn't working properly. The reply tool itself has a built-in preview; just check what it gives you before publishing. Schwede66 02:09, 4 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi B'art homme, That's good news :). A handy hint for you. When making posts on talk pages, there is a simple means of signing your post. All you have to to is to enter four of the special characters ~~~~. When you publish the change to the page, your user name and the date and time of the post will be automatically substituted, to appear like this one here. Marshelec (talk) 20:48, 3 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Sorry Marshelec, I've tried adding b'art homme 21:55, 3 September 2023 (UTC) before (at the end of my talk additions) but there appears to be something odd going on... way to tricky... it should be automatic. as my academy award winning code writer often says to me "Dumb code" (likely too smart code for me). I'll try again here b'art homme 21:55, 3 September 2023 (UTC). b'art homme 21:55, 3 September 2023 (UTC)
Thank you, I wonder why on earth it's simply not automatic versus a near secret code for the initiated... b'art homme 21:10, 3 September 2023 (UTC) b'art homme 21:10, 3 September 2023 (UTC)

Fourth warning: Managing a conflict of interest edit

Hello, B'art homme. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Artists' Co-op (Wellington), you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Fourth warning for COI editing without following our guidelines and policies for connected editors. You should not be directly editing the article, or any others with which you have a COI. It's great that you used AfC to create the article, but please review our guidance. Four warnings is way too many, mate. Use the edit request system. Netherzone (talk) 20:38, 4 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

I'm only writing (with others' help) factual, citable history. Question: - should there have been wiki articles on Summer city? The artists' co-op? of course but as many others have said to me "it's about time this history was shared". Thank you again for all your contributions. BTW if I am now your "mate" does this mean we have a COI? b'art homme 21:24, 4 September 2023 (UTC)

Custom signature fix needed edit

Hi there! You have a custom signature set in your account preferences. Changes to Wikipedia's software have made your current custom signature invalid.

The problem: Your signature contains a syntax error or obsolete HTML tags.

The solutions: You can reset your signature to the default, you can fix your signature, or you can do nothing.

Solution 1: Reset your signature to the default:

  1. Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
  2. Uncheck the box (☑︎→☐) that says "Treat the above as wiki markup."
  3. Remove anything in the Signature: text box.
  4. Click the blue "Save" button at the bottom of the page. (Do not click the red "Restore all default settings" button, which will reset all of your preference settings, not just the signature.)

Solution 2: Fix your custom signature:

  1. Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
  2. Click the Learn more button next to the error to learn how to fix the error.
  3. Update your signature to fix the error.
  4. Click Save to update to your newly fixed signature.

Solution 3: Do nothing:

  1. In accordance with a recent request for comment, all invalid signatures will be changed to the default, which looks like "Example (talk)", one month from now.

If you have followed these instructions and still want help, please leave a message at Wikipedia talk:Signatures. Thank you! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 06:05, 2 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
