Stravinsky to FAC

Hey Aza, after a PR, I've taken Stravinsky to FAC (nom here). Just wanted to notify you since you had some concerns around the GAN. MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 00:47, 27 May 2023 (UTC)

Hi @MyCatIsAChonk, thank you for letting me know! I will definitely leave some comments. Aza24 (talk) 22:24, 27 May 2023 (UTC)

Discontent Content Issue 7

The Core Contest winners announced

The winners of the 2023 The Core Contest are announced 🎉. We had an amazing set of improvements this year, and the judges (Femke, Aza24 and Casliber) would like to thank everybody who joined and congratulate the winners.

  • First place goes to Buidhe for improving The Holocaust; very core, highly relevant; their work on bringing geographical balance to the article puts the topic in a whole different light. We also commend improvements to sourcing and prose
  • A close second place goes to Phlsph7 for improving Education from an unstructured jumble into a well-sourced piece of instruction
  • Third prize goes to Johnbod for improving Donatello, a near five-fold expansion with great sourcing and fantastic imagery
  • A tie for fourth place goes to Thebiguglyalien for improving Crime, for a strong improvement in sourcing
  • A tie for fifth place goes to Sammielh for International law, improved by converting contextless listicles into a proper sourced prose

If you wish to start or stop receiving news about The Core Contest, please add or remove yourself from the delivery list. —Femke 🐦 (talk) 20:07, 21 June 2023 (UTC)

Shigi Qutuqu

Hi Aza, hope you're well. Genghis Khan isn't ready yet but his adopted son Shigi Qutuqu is; I've put him up for GAN. I don't know how busy you are, but a review or any comments would be appreciated. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 17:52, 28 May 2023 (UTC)

@AirshipJungleman29, happy to review it! I've just formally started the review, though I'm not sure exactly when I'll get to it—this upcoming weekend at the latest. Hopefully that's okay, Best – Aza24 (talk) 06:52, 30 May 2023 (UTC)
Thanks so much Aza! I'm actually away until next Tuesday, so take your time. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 11:09, 30 May 2023 (UTC)
Sounds good! Aza24 (talk) 20:03, 30 May 2023 (UTC)

Thanks again for the review Aza. I think you'll have seen that my work on Genghis is coming on apace, I've just submitted Baljuna Covenant to FAC, and I'm thinking about doing some things with Muqali, which is slightly more in your way. Do you have any wiki-plans for the next few months? ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 11:40, 18 June 2023 (UTC)

@AirshipJungleman29, my goals for these next few months are to finish the Chinese monarch list (FLC), Gutenberg and work on Sibelius symphonies with a friend of mine. And now the main author of Sappho has asked me to help push it to FA since (I had written the article's music section a few months ago).
Probably too busy for a collaboration for Muqali, if that's what you were asking. Would be happy to review it though. On the topic though, I was reading about the sympathetic Khitan Yelü Chucai, who I find terribly interesting! – Aza24 (talk) 06:16, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
I will definitely get to Yelü at some point, but there's a lot of people between me and him. No worries about Muqali; I've put him on the back burner and will probably tackle the campaigns of Jebe and Subutai first. I will look forward eagerly to your work on Sappho—let me know if you ever want comments informally or at PR if it goes there. My FAC is doing far better than I expected (three supports already (after just a week!) and only the source review left) so I'm very available at the mo. Best wishes, ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 14:54, 26 June 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for the offer! I may need your insight more on the Chinese monarch list... I want to get it as solid as possible, as I really think its the only accessible place online for such comprehensive information, though that won't be until August.
And yes, Baljuna Covenant looks like it's going great. So good to see! Aza24 (talk) 19:52, 26 June 2023 (UTC)

my story today

Great to see sculptures of Beethoven on the Main page! - I like today's Main page especially, including today's story from the pictured DYK, and here's why ;) -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:47, 2 June 2023 (UTC)

Last weekend was nice, class reunion a funny number of years after completing school, and the lovely park where I spent many Sundays as a child. Today's story is quite dramatic, there's a yt trailer to the hook. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:53, 5 June 2023 (UTC)

Jörg Widmann is 50 today, and I began Stockholm pics. Working on the tubist. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:53, 19 June 2023 (UTC)
The tubist looks great now! Thank you for asking Susan to take a look. Jörg Widmann is a curious composer. It was fun to listen to his music when I reviewed his GAN... Aza24 (talk) 06:18, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
Susun works miracles in press bits, see Soňa Červená! - I heard Widmann play as mentioned in the hook for Walter Fink, and then Babylon which was a bit overwhelming and philosophical. He knows how to write for singers. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:58, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
Today's story is about a singer whom I saw twice, not Wagner and Strauss, but Bach and Weill - more vacation pics! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:03, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
Today the other singer (improved with SusunW and GRuban), yesterday: the Mass in B minor, heard in concert then, three musical videos are out, and the rest of the vacation pics is now there. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:39, 29 June 2023 (UTC)

Tatum

Hey Aza, Your rejection of Tatum's visual impairment was peremptory. I think that concept of Tatum being an incredible musician "despite" his visual impairment is absolutely apropos because he was basically unable to read music or even see the keyboard like other piano players. That made his "musicality" even more amazing. In addition, the article is not about Tatum's musicality; it's about Art Tatum. 98.244.137.86 (talk) 15:53, 27 June 2023 (UTC)kolef98.244.137.86 (talk) 15:53, 27 June 2023 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.244.137.86 (talk) 13:49, 27 June 2023 (UTC)

sandbox links

Hi,

this should work to add the sandbox to the header and sticky header, this will insert after the watchlist but you can change this to any of the other buttons.

/* Add sandbox to header */
$("#pt-sandbox").insertAfter("#pt-watchlist-2");

/* Add sandbox to sticky */
$("#pt-sandbox").clone().insertAfter("#ca-watchstar-sticky-header");

As for a personalised link, best ask at WP:VPT about the use of p-personal to create a personalised link in the header. Nthep (talk) 20:44, 29 June 2023 (UTC)

Sounds good. Thank you! Aza24 (talk) 08:10, 1 July 2023 (UTC)

T. E. Meeks and misplaced linking of her women composer articles, again

Hello, you may or may not remember this situation, but this editor's still going at it ... see this edit to Victor Hugo, made less than 24 hours ago! Any input you might have at this thread on their talk page would be appreciated. I notified you because of your comments on the linked ANI. Graham87 19:04, 17 July 2023 (UTC)

DOI vs URL

Regarding our recent edits at Anthony Tommasini where you added a the parameter |url= to a {{Cite Grove}} citation that already had a DOI identifier. That URL leads readers who click on it exactly to the same page as the link provided by the DOI and is thus redundant. The same applies to URLs to worldcat.org / OCLC and other similar identifiers like JSTOR. Readers should not be presented with 2 clickable links that point to the same resource, so removing the URL is reasonable, because readers expect a link to the actual text there. This removal is recommended at Template:Cite encyclopedia ({{Cite Grove}}, the template in question in Tommasini's article, is a wrapper for {{Cite encyclopedia}}): "It is not necessary to specify a URL to a link identical to a link also produced by an identifier." This has been discussed several times, e.g. at Help talk:Citation Style 1/Archive 68#Don't add a doi.org link if you're using the |doi= parameter. There are automated tools that, among other things, perform such removal; e.g. Citation bot, "Bot approval", #8: "... duplicate URLs for online sources and identifiers (like JSTOR, bibcode and ASIN)." With all that in mind, my removal of the URL was entirely uncontroversial (and I can't see how you can describe it as "passive aggressive" and "not collegial").

I'm very grateful for your expansion of this article (I sat next to him during an opera once, and really like his writing), but collegially I suggest you take note of WP:OWN, and particularly of the Wikipedia standards for citations. I suggest you revert your reversal. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 09:29, 18 July 2023 (UTC)

Okay. Thank you for the well-explained rationale @Michael Bednarek. Reverting over such matters (when one is unaware of such matters) often comes across as needlessly aggressive. Perhaps, in the future, just change the information without a formal revert.
I enjoy his writing as well. I had reached out to him to see if he would be willing to license a picture to WP but received no response unfortunately...! Aza24 (talk) 16:44, 18 July 2023 (UTC)

my story today

Great music (in June, I'm behind: three great RMF concerts)! - Last Saturday, a friend played for us at her birthday party, on four instruments including baryton, with family (granddaughters!) and colleagues, from Renaissance to Haydn. - My story today is very personal: the DYK appeared on Wikipedia's 15th birthday, and describes a concert I sang. I was requested to translate the bio into German for a memorial concert ... - see background, and we talked about life and death. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:09, 12 July 2023 (UTC)

Sounds like an incredible concert! And the baryton is such a touching addition :) Aza24 (talk) 00:04, 13 July 2023 (UTC)
yes, it was, - viola + baryton + cello is a wonderful sound. Now fireworks on the Rhine pictured on 1 July, but the real stars were sun and moon. I love today's story. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:51, 15 July 2023 (UTC)
Didn't know that was a tradition with the Rhine, how lovely. Aza24 (talk) 20:26, 16 July 2023 (UTC)
Today, I remember Reger's Requiem, and our choirs' jubilee 2 weeks ago. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:42, 16 July 2023 (UTC)
On today's Main page, you can find a cantata that Bach first performed 300 years ago, and an iconic saxophonist from East Germany. Also: a bit about the history of QAI on my talk. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:30, 18 July 2023 (UTC)
While today's DYK highlights Santiago on his day, I did my modest share with my story today, describing what I just experienced, pictured. I began the article of the woman in green. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:08, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
Today Jahrhundertring, and I'm listening to Götterdämmerung from the Bayreuth Festival, close to the scene pictured, - the image (of a woman who can't believe what she has to see) features also on the article talk. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:54, 31 July 2023 (UTC)
Such a great opera—I love the opening farewell scene. Aza24 (talk) 05:09, 1 August 2023 (UTC)

Edits to Henri Dutilleux

I would just like to comment on your edit, with summary: "is this a joke? This sentence literally just says that he wrote no organ works??". Well, no, it says no such thing. It says that Gaston Litaize asked Dutilleux to write something for him (GL), and nothing came of this particular attempted commission. So I see no reason to delete this bit, since it appears to be sourced appropriately. Imaginatorium (talk) 05:56, 2 August 2023 (UTC)

The lead is there to summarize the article's most important information. Adding a sentence which states that "Here's someone who did not commission Dutilleux" is just not meaningful and essentially a waste of space for a section which should be highly limited and focused. Such information may belong in the body of the article. Eventually the lead should be mostly culled of these individual names anyways, as it is not a list and should be a summary of Dutilleux's life and music (which it is currently not).
In the future, please bring article-related matters to the talk page, where other editors can comment on them. Aza24 (talk) 15:58, 2 August 2023 (UTC)

95th Academy Awards source review

Could you do a source review of the 95th Academy Awards for featured list consideration? I would appreciate the feedback.

Posthumous names at Tolui

Hello! I've just finished up at Tolui, but I wanted to ask about something I haven't found a legitimate source for. The article used to have (and still does, commented out in the infobox) information on Tolui's posthumous regnal and temple names—from the infobox: Rensheng Jingxiang () and (Ruizong (睿宗). Do you know a good source to cite on this? ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 19:41, 13 August 2023 (UTC)

@AirshipJungleman29, you could can find the temple name on Moule 102, the second row, first column. It's in Wade-Giles ("Jui Tsung"), but the Chinese is the same so is admissible. The posthumous name is also there, but it is given as two different names: Jingxiang 景襄 and Yingwu 英武. In full these are 景襄皇帝 and 英武皇帝 in full, the 皇帝 meaning emperor, but I would probably omit the emperor characters. I've left the citation below for ease of insertion:
* {{cite book |last=Moule |first=Arthur C. |author-link=Arthur Christopher Moule |year=1957 |title=The Rulers of China, 221 BC-AD 1949 |publisher=[[Routledge]] |location=London |oclc=223359908 |url=https://archive.org/details/the-rulers-of-china |url-access=registration }}
Thank you for your marvelous work on Tolui! – Aza24 (talk) 20:02, 14 August 2023 (UTC)
You're welcome, the article's now at FAC. I'm not sure I did the characters right, or at all intelligibly for people who know what they're talking about; can you check? ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 14:53, 15 August 2023 (UTC)
I adjusted it around a little. The names are entirely separate in this case. Sometimes posthumous names can be rather disorganized, particularly for the earliest Mongols, since they were given much later than the typical few years expectation. Aza24 (talk) 17:51, 15 August 2023 (UTC)
Thanks so much Aza. You may be interested in Wikipedia:Good article reassessment/Schubert's last sonatas/1. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 20:44, 15 August 2023 (UTC)

Fuzuli FAC

Hey Aza, since you expressed interest in the Fuzuli FAC, I was wondering if you would like to review the article as well, of course, if you have the time and inclination. Cheers! — Golden talk 11:15, 22 August 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Golden, sorry for the late response. I'd be happy to take a look, will endeavor to do so relatively soon. Aza24 (talk) 06:06, 28 August 2023 (UTC)

my story today

Today's music is played by my brother's orchestra, conducted by two very young men on their way up, - the picture was taken shortly after the invasion of Ukraine began, - more detail on my talk. Images reached the day of the Tenebrae concert mentioned in July. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:22, 2 August 2023 (UTC)

Never heard of Tenebrae, but have heard of Nigel Short, so will have to check them out! Aza24 (talk) 19:33, 2 August 2023 (UTC)
My story today - a first - isn't about an article by me, but one I reviewed for DYK, see here. I like all: topic, "hook", connected article (a GA on its way towards FA), image and the music "in the background". I just returned from a weekend of weddings, so also like the spirit ;) - Pics to come, I promise one cake, the other was too large! Good music, and better even in the concert ending the second day, - Goldberg Variations theme for an encore, after Dohnányi Serenade. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:08, 7 August 2023 (UTC)
Again not by me: today's story - with the triumph of music over military - is uplifting! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:18, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
Now: picture of heart-shaped cake(s) uploaded! - Today's story is about a tenor, - why his roles are not linked on the Main page remains a mystery to me. Today is also the birthday of the Bayreuth Festival. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:31, 13 August 2023 (UTC)
Bayreuth would be a dream to attend... Aza24 (talk) 19:46, 14 August 2023 (UTC)
The dream came true for me because a friend who waited for years didn't like these modernist directors when she finally got tickets after having waited in vain for years. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:57, 14 August 2023 (UTC)
Awesome! I find modernist directors really exciting, but the old-fashioned ones are great too. Honestly, the singing is always excellent so I'm sure I'd be happy with either. Aza24 (talk) 20:03, 14 August 2023 (UTC)
I was blessed to see two productions, and both then modernist directors have died, celebrated. I saw the image used pleading. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:37, 14 August 2023 (UTC)
Completely different topic: Carlton Gamer died, and I had a brief look. Hard to tell for me if he was as important as the article suggests, - never heard the name before. Most of the prose was stolen from ref UHS, the only usable one so far. The lead is poor. I'd go further (but only tomorrow) if you say it's worth it. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:00, 15 August 2023 (UTC)
One more day uploaded, with another wedding cake - I couldn't resist. Today's story is about the Inkpot Madonna who returned to "her place" 9 years ago, and also has aspects of early learning, remember? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:24, 15 August 2023 (UTC)
Added a little to "Mr. Gamer" (ha!). Aza24 (talk) 18:03, 15 August 2023 (UTC)
Thank you! - Today is the anniversary of the premiere of Götterdämmerung. Berit Lindholm sang its final scene in concert at the Royal Festival Hall in London, only four years after her stage debut in a Mozart opera in Stockholm. Had to work for her (a stub), and now for Renata Scotto (long but unreferenced - do you speak French? good obit by Le Monde but tedious to translate section for section). Sorry, Mr. Gamer. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:26, 17 August 2023 (UTC)
Don't know French unfortunately. I regret that Götterdämmerung may be our worst article on a Wagner opera... Aza24 (talk) 20:50, 17 August 2023 (UTC)
... and Tristan isn't much better, tagged ... - Today I heard a delightful concert, "Himmlische Freuden", remembered having heard Vilde Frang (Bruch concerto, in Zürich, with my brother's orchestra) , and succeeded in preparing Renata Scotto's article enough for the Main page (which took two days). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:43, 19 August 2023 (UTC)
Today is Debussy's birthday. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:35, 22 August 2023 (UTC)
This too shall pass. - Ten years ago on 28 August, I heard a symphony, with a heavy heart because of the pending decision in WP:ARBINFOBOX, and not worried about my future here but Andy's. - It passed, and I could write the DYK about calling to dance, not battle, and Andy could write the DYK mentioning about peace and reconciliation, - look. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:08, 28 August 2023 (UTC)

Our festival's last concert was most moving and inspiring, and there are seconds of it - plus glimpses of an interview with the conductor, age 96 - in this tv summary. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:39, 3 September 2023 (UTC)

Bruckner 7 with Blomstedt?? Sounds absolutely delightful.
Hmmm Blomstedt is getting very old by now, and his Wikipedia article is less than ideal. Will put it on my to do list – Aza24 (talk) 04:36, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
That would be great! - Now pics around the memorable concert, and the story of Walter Arlen, - proud that I survived the decision in WP:ARBINFOBOX for 10 years, standing and singing --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:06, 11 September 2023 (UTC)
Today's story is about a great pianist with an unusual career, taking off when he was 50. It's the wedding anniversary of Clara and Robert Schumann, but I was too late with our gift. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:31, 12 September 2023 (UTC)
Today I remember Raymond Arritt, who still helps me, five years after he died, per what he said in my darkest time on Wikipedia (placed in my edit-notice as a reminder), and by teh rulez. - Latest pics from a weekend in Berlin (one more day to come, with Macbeth). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:16, 19 September 2023 (UTC)

Hello Aza24:

WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Edit-a-thon event in October 2023!

Running from October 1 to 31, 2023, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) edit-a-thon event with the theme Around the World in 31 Days! All experience levels welcome. Never worked on a GA project before? We'll teach you how to get started. Or maybe you're an old hand at GAs – we'd love to have you involved! Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to women and women's works (e.g., books, films) during the event period. We hope to collectively cover article subjects from at least 31 countries (or broader international articles) by month's end. GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to earn a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.

Hello

Hi, Aza! How have things been going with you? I miss our chats about music quite a bit! ~ Silence of Järvenpää 00:23, 26 September 2023 (UTC)

Doing good, just getting very busy. This is a good reminder for me to put a lower activity marking on my page (sorry if I've been missing your pings)!
I've been listening to so much new music lately... here are some of more exciting ones if that peaks your interest: [1] [2] [3] [4]. Urgh, I really want to be writing more on contemporary composers when I have the chance. Am feeling good about how Rorem turned out, so hopefully that can be a model-ish. You know the crazy thing? At the end of the Burkholder-Grout Western music survey, their further reading section says something along the lines off: "For information on more recent composers, Wikipedia is often the most thorough resource"... but that's something we need to continue to prove! Mozart's Requiem to come on Sunday, coupled with Arvo Pärt's Da pacem Domine, - I guess you might come if it was a bit closer. Perhaps watch the video of our last production, our first on yt, ever. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:22, 21 November 2023 (UTC)

Bach now I think! Nice to hear from you–what's on your plate at the moment? Aza24 (talk) 00:03, 30 November 2023 (UTC)
I am terribly ashamed to admit that my use of "Bach" was accidental (Johann has evidently overtaken my unconscious decisions) Aza24 (talk) 00:03, 30 November 2023 (UTC)

It is done, my friend. GAN up, PR opened. You gave me the impetus to start properly, so it owes a large part of its existence to you. Hope you're well, and if you can give any comments, you know they would be really appreciated. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 22:12, 27 November 2023 (UTC)

@AirshipJungleman29 Wow!! This is will undoubtedly become a standard reference for what a high-profile FA can be... right up there with those of Wtfiv and Midnightblueowl. Impressed that you could keep it under 10k. Will definitely leave some comments. Best – Aza24 (talk) 00:15, 30 November 2023 (UTC)

Hey @CurryTime7-24, sorry I wasn't able to chip in there. Looks like there is a stable solution in place? It seems suitable enough...! – Aza24 (talk) 23:57, 29 November 2023 (UTC)
I haven't checked, but I'm sure it'll all smooth out one way or another. No need to apologize, by the way. You didn't miss out on anything. After chiming in with my preferred options, I bounced out of that debate. Chewed through enough ibuprofen already! ;) —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 00:56, 30 November 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for your work on Euclid

Hope I'm not stepping on your toes with my recent edits, and I definitely didn't mean any personal criticism in talk:Euclid. My comments there were more directed at the article Euclid's Elements which I think could use significant expansion – we could probably even do with a separate page about each book of the Elements. But were intended mainly as an invitation to an apparent expert to contribute directly rather than just using 'external links' sections for self promotion, not as any kind of comment about you or other previous editors volunteering your contributions.

Anyway, thanks for your improvements to Euclid. It's a pretty frequently read page (~50k views per month), and has benefited a lot from your efforts. –jacobolus (t) 16:38, 17 October 2023 (UTC)

Hi Jacobolus, sorry for my late response, my WP activity was sporadic for a bit but I should be back for a bit now.
Your explanation makes complete sense. If my response seemed at all rash, you'll have to understand my perspective: I often come to articles which have had plenty of discussion on the talk pages, but absolutely no substantial expansion (often they are about an start-class about an important topic, see Vitruvian Man, which I wrote in its entirety from an abysmal original article despite many years of talk page discussions). Thus when I saw your intial comment I interpreted as another complaint for which the only resulting actions will either by none or my own. These predicaments can be frustrating, to say the least.
You would be most welcome to assist with Euclid, and afaics your recent edits have much improved the clarity and flow of the prose. At this point, I believe the life section is essentially finished, or at least certainly suitable for a good article (which is my goal).
You'll see that I've attempted a summary of the Elements but lost interest as I got further in the content (thus the earlier books have more substantial treatment). If you have any interest in further expanding that section, it would be most helpful. I didn't find much modern commentary on the text besides Artmann, although I didn't look very hard either. The legacy section also needs work, though I'm sure it will have to remain very general to keep the focus on Euclid. My other plan is to give each of the "Other works" at least two or three further sentences. Best – Aza24 (talk) 23:55, 29 November 2023 (UTC)
No worries. Stub/start class articles about essential subjects are a Wikipedia staple. (And replacing them with substantive articles is a hard slog, so thanks.)
Overall I think the Euclid article is in okay shape. The main things I'd like to see added to it are (a) a better description of his other extant works each of which deserves a dedicated section (in an ideal world each would have its own article), (b) more discussion of the context of Greek mathematics and work of other Greek mathematicians, the style of Euclid's work, and the later history/mathematical influence (on mathematics, astronomy, etc.).
The Elements article needs a lot more work in my opinion, and despite having fewer views is probably more important to get right than the Euclid article. It needs to shed excessive the section about editions and eventually someone hopefully can dramatically expand its content with a substantial summary of each book, a more complete history of the transmission of the text, a (perhaps brief) historical discussion about what is known about the pre-history of the Elements and prior Greek mathematics in general, a clear description of the general form of Greek propositions of the types found in the Elements, a discussion of the diagrams in the Elements and the nature/use of mathematical diagrams in general, and a much more significant discussion of the influence of the Elements, with special focus on the concept of mathematical proof, the foundations of geometry, alternatives to Euclidean geometry, the theory of proportions, concepts of incommensurables, ...
There's been quite a lot of modern commentary about the Elements (esp. if you consider the past 50–100 years to be "modern"), including a tall stack of books and probably hundreds of journal articles, but it's scattered around and takes some effort to dig up references. –jacobolus (t) 03:14, 30 November 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for all of this, will ponder further – Aza24 (talk) 05:33, 30 November 2023 (UTC)

Also, I wanted to flag a new article that may be in your wheelhouse. I recently discovered that the most famous Uyghur dancer of the 20th century, Qemberxanim, had no English article. I did my best at a crude translation from the Chinese version, since that's better than nothing, but as I don't speak Chinese it's pretty rough. It'd help to have someone try to locate the 1995 source, and there also seems to be a lot of information (including potential DYK facts) to mine in Wilcox 2019 (which is open-source!). {{u|Sdkb}}talk 20:08, 25 December 2023 (UTC)
Looked around for the 1995 source but to no luck (its on this publication on google books, but incassesible). Another biography, 康巴尔汗的艺术生涯, was publisher in 1998. This article from a Chinese library has quite a bit of information. The latter article, as well as a few other mentions I saw while searching, seem to put her birth year as 1922, not 1914.
I appreciate you bringing this to my attention, but feel that I have too many active projects to risk adding another! Aza24 (talk) 05:16, 26 December 2023 (UTC)
That's still all super helpful! Cheers, {{u|Sdkb}}talk 07:08, 26 December 2023 (UTC)

Signups open for The Core Contest

The Core Contest—Wikipedia's most exciting contest—will take place this year from April 15 to May 31. The goal: to improve vital or other core articles, with a focus on those in the worst state of disrepair. Editing can be done individually, but in the past groups have also successfully competed. There is £300 of prize money divided among editors who provide the "best additive encyclopedic value". Signups are open now. Cheers from the judges, Femke, Casliber, Aza24.

If you wish to start or stop receiving news about The Core Contest, please add or remove yourself from the delivery list.

@Ruy, you have an entire talk page of not responding to other editors. (User talk:Ruy/Archive 01). How does my comment "fail to [sic] the truth"?
You clearly made no effort to acknowledge the 5,000 plus edits from Montensem, which immediately disqualifies them from WP:U5 ("where the owner has made few or no edits outside of user pages"). If you expect to be trusted with a tool like Twinkle, the bare minimum you could do is acknowledge your actions, apologize and move on! Aza24 (talk) 23:52, 13 April 2024 (UTC)

No, sadly, - our conductor thinks we can't do it, nor 227 and 226, - but those two I sang with different choirs before. Proper Citation for Leonardo da Vinci

Hello. I apologize if I am disturbing you at this time, but I was just wondering if this article that I found might be considered a proper citation. I do not want to make the same mistake as last time so I am wondering if you could tell please me if I can use this article as a proper citation.

[7] Thegreatcool (talk) 21:55, 3 January 2024 (UTC)

Hi @Thegreatcool, many apologies for the late response. The issue was not so much with the citation, but the content. The first sentence of a biography should impart the most important categorization/identifiers for their subjects. For Leonardo, it is that he was a an artist and scientist; him being supposably self-taught is not crucial information. In any case, calling him "self-taught" is a stretch: he was educated for many years by one of the leading Italian artists of his time: Andrea del Verrocchio. If you mean self-taught for his interest in science, sure that is not as outlandish, but this is really the type of information that belongs in the article's body, not the first sentence. Aza24 (talk) 23:10, 4 February 2024 (UTC)
Apologies for replying back very late. Thank you telling me this. Have a great day. Thegreatcool (talk) 04:11, 5 February 2024 (UTC)

Page writing

hello, you mentioned activism in my trying to sort out the topic of Chinese Legalism. But while I intend to present opposite opinions, I would like to mention that my work is based on the Stanford Encyclopedia and other famous writers in it. It has just been a very difficult topic to sort out. I've appreciated your input.FourLights (talk) 21:54, 5 February 2024 (UTC)

Hi @FourLights, nice to hear from you. I was referring less to activism per say, and the struggle to balance an evolving discipline with the orthodox view. In any case, I think we're on the same page now. Aza24 (talk) 22:57, 5 February 2024 (UTC)
since I was working from the ground up with less knowledge the situation was extraordinarily difficult since the Legalist interpretation of my category was initially critiqued to death in 1970, but continued until 1992, where it then died. I wanted to try to present balanced opinion but the line of opinion died out, scholarship became rarer. I actually can present something about Shan Yang's Legalism but there is no longer a Legalist interpretation in acamedia.

Pre-Shang Yang thinkers can be described as Legalist under Chinese scholar Huang Kejian FourLights (talk) 23:25, 5 February 2024 (UTC)
