Hello, I'm WikiDan61. I wanted to let you know that I undid one or more of your recent contributions to Sentry siren because it appeared to be promotional.   Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia, as you did to Sentry siren. While objective prose about beliefs, products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not intended to be a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion. Thank you. Dawn Bard (talk) 14:15, 20 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Response regarding Sentry Siren Wikipedia page

edit

Good morning all,

As a new contributor to Wikipedia, I am still getting used to the rules and regs. I totally understand that advertising and promotional materials are not permitted. However, the last round of edits I made to Sentry Siren's page were strictly fact and were actually correcting misinformation that existed on the original version of the page I found yesterday. I am going to republish my last round of edits - I sincerely hope everyone will stop undoing my edits as the sole intent of the post is to correct bad information regarding the different Sentry models.

Sincerely,

Awolk1986

When you write statements like:
  • A power packed, entry level siren
  • The power-packed, entry level siren in Sentry's family is the 3V8-H. With over 3,000 units in service world-wide, this rock solid unit has seen it all. At a price point anyone can appreciate, this siren is 100% FEMA and USDA grant compliant.
  • The best tool gets the job done quickly, efficiently, and without worry. The 7V8, from Sentry is just that: fast, efficient, and without worry.
these are advertisements. Pure and simple. And any claim to the contrary is either naive or disingenuous. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:04, 20 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
Apologies -- I see that your final edit on the page (here) was, in fact, more factual and less promotional. However, your history with the page has left the clear impression that you have a decided conflict of interest. I would suggest that if you see factual errors on the page, you should address them on the talk page and let other uninvolved editors assess the issues and address them in the article itself. RE: Response regarding Sentry Siren Wikipedia page

edit

I understand Wikipedia's efforts to remain objective. And I certainly understand my earlier posts were too far on the promotional side. Everything I posted was true, but I can see how they could construed as biased and promotional. As I previously stated, I'm a new Wikipedia contributor and am still getting used to the rules and regs. However, as you agreed, the last round of edits were simply factual and without bias. If the purpose of this communication/research medium is the dissemination of information that is both objective and, more importantly, factual, then correcting misinformation, regardless of previous involvement, would seem to be a benefit for the community as a whole. Correct me if I am wrong. In the meantime, it is a disservice to Wikipedia, Sentry Siren, and the siren enthusiast community as a whole for false/inaccurate data to be online. My goal was to correct the errors in a timely fashion. Hopefully that can be made to happen.

Did you create 2Fly33 (talk · contribs) to continue editing Sentry siren? WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:22, 20 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

RE: Alternate Account

No, I did not add a separate user account to continue editing. I don't know who 2Fly33 is.

OK. Seemed an odd coincidence, but coincidences do happen. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:56, 20 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
