Bot flag

I don't know why the template wasn't substituted[1]. Would you please fix it? Thanks. --MakecatTalk 02:21, 21 July 2012 (UTC)

Done, and bot flag has granted.--Avocato (talk) 09:00, 21 July 2012 (UTC)

AvocatoBot on Enlgish Wikinews

Please be aware that Wikinews has opted out of the global bots policy. In order to operate a bot on the project it will require approval, and details of intended purpose clearly explained to the community on n:WN:BOTS. --Brian McNeil /talk 17:52, 31 August 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for notifying me. Can I make just two or three edits with my bot's account at it's userspace, without getting blocked?--Avocato (talk) 18:19, 31 August 2012 (UTC)

Buryat Wikipedia

Support, please, my candidacy in the Buryat Wikipedia. [2] Gubin (talk), 2 September 2012 (UTC)

I'm so sorry, I can't understand your local language which written in the link you gave me. What are you requesting me to do?--Avocato (talk) 16:50, 4 September 2012 (UTC)

One more task

Hi. You have a global bot flag and global bots are allowed to fix double redirects. However the local policy does not explicitly say so. Personally I would send an active BAG member a message to check before operating the bot. --Meno25 (talk) 08:07, 6 September 2012 (UTC)

Interwiki links order

I noticed when adding an interwiki link to Denmark you broke the order of the links: per H:IL#Sorting they should be in the order of the language in its local name, which is often different to the name in English and the prefix. This is something most bots do automatically so if you are using a bot it would be best to update it to do the same.--JohnBlackburnewordsdeeds 10:41, 6 October 2012 (UTC)

Sorry, I didn't realize that English Wikipedia has a special system for sorting interwiki. I have reverted my edit. Regards.--Avocato (talk) 11:06, 6 October 2012 (UTC)

Regarding Arabic documents on Wikinews

Hello. I see you recently posted to our watercooler on the English Wikinews. It seems you know how to read Arabic, though correct me if I am wrong. We are looking for someone of a few people to look over some documents from Syria that we uploaded to Wikinews for an article: http://www.en.wikinews.org/wiki/Category:Syria_files It would be great if you could look over some of these and help with translation. Or if you know anyone who might be interested in helping, please send them to the category above or have them leave a comment on my Wikinews talk page:http://en.wikinews.org/wiki/User_talk:DragonFire1024 , or the talk page of the category in question. DragonFire1024 (talk) 17:08, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

Hello. Yes, I'm a native speaker of the Arabic language. But unfortunately, I have no time currently. I asked the most active user in the Arabic Wikinews, PICAWN, to help you. Best regards.--Avocato (talk) 19:07, 28 November 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for your reply and help. Hopefully he can help. But if you do have time even if i the future, the documents will be there. DragonFire1024 (talk) 19:18, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

Little bot problem with more than 1 redirect on a page

Hello Avocato, if a redirect page contains more than one redirect line, AvocatoBot doesn't work correctly, see ANSCA. There are only ~100 such pages yet on the English Wikipedia, so it's a little problem. Obviously there shouln't be such pages, but that can only be handled manually: In most cases there exists some reason for the 2nd redirect. Best regards, --Griot-de (talk) 13:16, 9 February 2013 (UTC)

Hello. I use the standard redirect.py script, so any other bot could make the same error. I have no solution for this problem, I'm so sorry.--Avocato (talk) 15:01, 15 February 2013 (UTC)
Hi Avocato, no big problem. For now, I'm changing most of the redirect pages with more than one redirect lines anyway. Best regards, --Griot-de (talk) 01:07, 16 February 2013 (UTC)
Fine, thanks for understanding. Regards.--Avocato (talk) 19:32, 16 February 2013 (UTC)

Wikidata is here; please disable any interwiki bots on the English Wikipedia

Hi!

Wikidata has been deployed to the English Wikipedia. Going forward, Wikidata will manage interwiki links. Further information: m:Wikidata/Deployment Questions and <https://blog.wikimedia.de/?p=13892>.

Important note: Bots that continue to add, remove, or update interwiki links on the English Wikipedia may be blocked from editing after Saturday, February 16, 2013.

If you are running pywikipedia's interwiki.py, please update to pyrev:11073 which will automatically prevent your bot from updating links on this wiki.

If you have any questions, please ask at the bot owners' noticeboard. Thank you for your past work maintaining interwiki links. It has been very appreciated and we're looking forward to an even brighter future with Wikidata. Legoktm (talk) 09:20, 14 February 2013 (UTC)

Interlanguage links on Arabic Wikipedia

Hello. Please stop adding interlanguage links to ar:مستخدم:Redrose64. I want exactly one interlanguage link on that page - en:User:Redrose64 because my home Wikipedia is the English one, and I rarely visit the others - so please leave it alone. --Redrose64 (talk) 16:13, 28 February 2013 (UTC)

Same goes for arz:مستخدم:Redrose64. --Redrose64 (talk) 17:27, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
Ok, I'll. I'm so sorry for any nuisance I caused.--Avocato (talk) 09:56, 1 March 2013 (UTC)

Running a bot

Hi Avocato, I noticed that you added a bot user on the Swedish version of Wikivoyage. Please note that you are required to ask for permission to run a bot there, according to the policy. That policy applies on all curremnt langauge versions of Wikivoyage, and you must therefor apply for permission on each language version. All the best, Riggwelter (talk) 20:05, 28 March 2013 (UTC)

Hello. I'll read it when I decide to run my bot there. Thanks for notifying me.--Avocato (talk) 06:45, 29 March 2013 (UTC)

STATICREDIRECT

While your bot DOES respect the STATICREDIRECT command in de:Walter Zyx when editing de:Walter Eberl, it still makes an edit: http://de.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Walter_Eberl&diff=117277654&oldid=117277156 but only changes REDIRECT to WEITERLEITUNG and gives a misleading contribution line. The bot should rather do nothing at all in these cases. --FA2010 (talk) 17:18, 8 April 2013 (UTC)

Hello. I'm afraid I have no solution for this problem. I use the standard redirect.py script; so any other bot could make the same thing. Sorry for any nuisance.--Avocato (talk) 18:48, 8 April 2013 (UTC)

Thanks

Just to say a quick thanks for reverting the IP vandalism to my talk page. Fraggle81 (talk) 18:41, 8 April 2013 (UTC)

Uklanjanje bot zastavice / Removal of bot flag

(English) I want to inform you that on bs.wiki there has been a voting that resulted in accepting the removal of bot flags for inactive and/or interwiki bots. Your bot has been identified to meet at least one of these criteria. This decision has been made due to the new developments with Wikidata by which all interwiki bots have become unnecessary. If you want to keep your bot flag, then please report that here by indicating what new task your bot will be performing and how this will be done. Note however that this has to be a concrete and useful task for the community before it will be accepted. If you have any questions, please let me know on my talk page. In case of no response, the removal of the bot flag will be performed within a few weeks from now. However, after that perioed you are always welcome to file a new request for a bot flag.

Bot get confused?

So, this was weird. The previous page was valid and there were no pagemoves I saw. What gives? The Moose is loose! 02:12, 11 July 2013 (UTC)

Ah, I see. A vandal redirected the Leopard page to Windows Vista. I reverted the bot's edits. The Moose is loose! 02:19, 11 July 2013 (UTC)

Hello. Yes, you're right, I think this edit caused the problem.--Avocato (talk) 04:36, 13 July 2013 (UTC)

Are double redirects still being fixed by bots?

I've noticed that the redirect bots are working a lot more slowly than usual, if they are working at all. This could become extremely problematic in the event of page moves when disambiguation pages are created. --Jax 0677 (talk) 15:02, 25 September 2013 (UTC)

tool labs

Hi Avocato, your activity on the tool labs login node currently contributes towards making it unusable. You are running upwards of 80 instances of pywiki redirect.py, when you should be running none at all. Tool labs has worker nodes for large bot runs. Please fix this. This has already wasted about an hour of my time. --Dschwen 06:16, 24 November 2013 (UTC)

Hello. I don't know exactly what I've done and caused this problem. At this moment, I run my bot normally at the Arabic Wikipedia, and run a lot of tasks in my crontab. I deleted most of my crontab tasks, I wish this fix the issue. I'm so sorry for problems I caused. Best regards.--Avocato (talk) 06:40, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
The number of cron tasks is not the problem. But you have to use jsub to run the script on worker nodes, not the login node; there is 9 of them. Gryllida (talk) 07:36, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
Note: a wikimedia labs administrator intervened as logged. Gryllida (talk) 07:39, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
Do you mean: I should use jsub to run a task normally (without made it by a cron)? I really don't know what is jsub? and how to use it?--Avocato (talk) 07:48, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
See wikitech:Nova_Resource:Tools/Help#Submitting.2C_managing_and_scheduling_jobs_on_the_grid & wikitech:Nova_Resource:Tools/Rules (rule 2). And your crontab is disabled. Please create a new tool (rule 1). --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 08:24, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
(Note: Per Don't lose the thread, I have removed your identical query from my talk page.) The documentation appears to answer it and you should be free to connect to #wikimedia-labs connect for real-time help at leisure.
