Please give me example of the issue you found in my recent edits. This will allow me to hopefully respond according. Avdavis1976 (talk) 02:29, 11 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Actually not a particularly serious an issue in this case, but you made numerous changes without providing supporting references or explaining the changes with an edit summary which will help other editors understand your article changes. However, you did seem to provide some cleanup which seemed beneficial. Hope this explains the issue, which is a minor one in your case. Again, welcome to Wikipedia, and be sure to read up on some of the guidelines and resources on Wikipedia mentioned in the above welcome message. Dl2000 (talk) 03:22, 11 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Managing a conflict of interest edit

  Hello, Avdavis1976. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Defense Technical Information Center, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. 331dot (talk) 11:55, 12 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

April 2019 edit

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for advertising or promotion. From your contributions, this seems to be your only purpose.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  331dot (talk) 12:19, 12 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

"Mission" statements are wholly unencyclopedic and will not be accepted as Wikipedia content, as a mission statement is impossible to independently verify, as it can be changed at any time at the whim of the organization. As you seem to have not heeded the advice you have been given, I have blocked this account. 331dot (talk) 12:20, 12 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

talk:331dot|talk]- Obviously I am new at this- I was trying to aheard to wiki policy. I review simaliar organization such as Dept of Defense, DARPA DTRA and etc. I reviewed the policy. I tried to add content for knowledge about the organization not promotional content. Please consider to remove my block so I can provide a wiki that will adherd to your policies. THis is my first week with the edits, I did greviously not heeded to you advice. Can you give me some recommendation of wikipedia that is great example to understand how a wiki should be populated? Thanks you! Avdavis1976 (talk) 13:35, 12 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

You didn't "provide a wiki"(a wiki is a type of website), you edited a Wikipedia article. When you state that you "tried to add content for knowledge about the organization"- that is considered promotional here. Wikipedia is not for merely providing information or merely telling about something. That's something your organization can and should do on its own website, one run by the Department of Defense where you can indeed say what you want about your organization. Wikipedia has no interest in what any organization wants to say about itself; we are only interested in what independent reliable sources state about organizations. Please review Wikipedia policy on conflict of interest(this plain language guide may also be helpful to you) and paid editing. If you are an employee of your organization, you must comply with the paid editing policy and declare that; this is a Wikipedia Terms of Use requirement and not negotiable. If employees of DARPA and other government agencies posted such information about their own agencies, especially without complying with the policies I indicate, they too would be blocked. You are welcome to request unblock if you intend to comply with the policies I mention here and indicate any other subjects you want to edit about as a general Wikipedia contributor; your request will be reviewed by someone else. 331dot (talk) 13:58, 12 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

Newbie to wikipedia. This week I learn the hard way that I can learn as I go. I tried to update the Defense Technical Page with update information. I remove old content and update it will new new content. The New content was indicated to be promotional/spam. I tried remove any reference of a promo and tried to be informative about the DTIC Agency. After back and forth tries - I was identify as a spamer and promotional. Thsi is not the case. All I was trying to do was to remove outdated content and update with the new. Bottom line--- With good faith I tried to legitably update and remove old content. My purpose is not ill intention or blatantly ignoring the rules/policies. I was learning as I edit, unfortunately lead to misunderstanding. Also this was my first time dealing with Wikipedia (4 days total). I hope I will be able to be given a learning curve. In the meatine, I will continue to read the policy, guidance and tutorials. I can't say I won't make a mistake here and there but with great intentions I will abide by the rules/policies. Avdavis1976 (talk) 14:54, 12 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

Anyone who has this much of an appeal to WP:BITE in their unblock appeal has either been around the block before or has been coached on what to say. Given that your content is promotional and you write like a marketer even in this unblock appeal, I think on the whole, unblocking you at this time would be a net-negative to the encyclopedia. If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

  • Can you please tell us what connection, if any, you have with the Defense Technical Information Center? Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 15:44, 12 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

The DTIC wiki page was my first attempt to edit a wiki post. I am a DTIC employee--- Program Analyst. My role major role in DTIC is metrics and surveys. I was tasked to remove outdated information with updated information. DTIC WIKi has not been updated with new information in years. I am open to additional guidance to pass along. If I am continued to be blocked, I will pass on the lesson learned that I received. Hopefully, the next person will have success with the updates to DTIC.

Decline reason:

We aren't interested in unblocking you to write about DTIC, as you have a conflict of interest there. If you wish to write about other subject areas, areas for which you have no conflict of interest and will be able to avoid violating WP:PROMO, you are welcome to tell us what you'll write about instead.
