The article Introduction to Biblical Hebrew Grammar has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
just a listing of a reprint of a standard book
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. - @DGG: Thanks, DGG! My thinking for that new article was that I would begin working on it this week, starting with collecting some reference works and then developing a structure. Would it make more sense for me to do all of that ahead of time before creating the article? How much of it needs to be written first? I'll start checking out the links you sent over. First, you need to explain what you are trying to do.
- If you are planning to write a more extended and detailed version of the section on Grammar in the article Biblical Hebrew, you should call it just Biblical Hebrew Grammar. The way to start that would be to use the existing section as an lede section, and then expand each part. After you do this, you might then want to somewhat shorten the lede section. This would make sense, because I suspect the Grammar section of that article could use some considerable expansion--it seems very odd that the meaning of the grammatical just explains the general ideas in English, without giving any Hebrew examples (which I would suggest be given both in Hebrew script and in transliteration),.
- But we normally use the phrase "Introduction to... to mean a shortened and somewhat simplified version. If you are intending to do that, it might make more sense to do it as Introduction to Biblical Hebrew, because the other parts of the main article seem extremely detailed, oriented to those already familiar with linguistic terminology and in my opinion as a non-linguist I think a simpler version is badly needed. In contrast, the specific section in Biblical Hebrew on Grammar seems to me to be almost as short as it could be and still be intelligible, so I'm not sure about the utility of writing a simplified version of it.
The usual minimal requirements for an article in mainspace even in minimal working form is a paragraph of text explaining the subject, and a few references. But for either of the two possibilities I suggest, it might be better to start with an outline. To show that it's unfinished, at the top add the tag : {{under construction}} , which gives you a few days to work on it. If you need more time, it should be done either as a subpage of your user page or in Draft space. , I'd do it as a subpage.: Make a page with the title User:Austinjalexander/.... . Thank you for your super-thoughtful response. :) OK, yes, I wondered about the best path here; based on your feedback (which confirmed my assessment of that section), I'll plan to clean up and expand the grammar section in the main article first, with an eye toward eventually creating a less-technical Introduction to Biblical Hebrew article, which I'll start as a subpage under User:Austinjalexander (which means the current Introduction to Biblical Hebrew Grammar should still be deleted).
