Oak Ridges Moraine

Hi, I noticed you edited a few of the articles related to the Oak Ridges Moraine. Quick tip

BTW: to use plural forms for a link, you can simply add s, es etc. outside of the link, like so: [[pig]]s, which will look like this pigs. That is, there's no need to do it like so: [[pig|pigs]]. It won't work if you need to include an apostrophe, though. Mindmatrix 02:05, 25 December 2005 (UTC)

Steve oakey, Matt Becker and Allen Siby are all prime candidates for speedy deletion. Don't waste time with AfD, just mark the articles {{nn-bio}} and they will magically disappear. -- RHaworth 06:46, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

Re: Lists

I noticed you tagged a bunch of lists for speedy deletion as the reason of non-notable listcruft. But non-notable listcruft is not a speedy criteria and better of to take it to AFD instead. Thanks --Jaranda ^{wat's sup} 07:02, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

Categories

Hi Atrian,

When you think a category should be deleted, the correct procedure is to list it on Wikipedia:Categories for Deletion, following the instructions there. You're not supposed to empty the category and blank it. This is a separate discussion from whether it's correct on the merits to say that those rivers are "rivers of Toronto" or not. --Trovatore 23:58, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

Scarborough Nicknames

While I don't really want to expand on this section, there are in fact some web references to Scompton:

• You know you're from Scarborugh when...
• Busta Rules

There is also a wikipedia page called Canadian slang which references Scompton as well as a couple of other nicknames not mentioned in the Scarborough article. I used Clusty search engine to find these references. Up to you whether you want to put this reference back. I don't care one way or the other.

• You're absolutely correct. Serves me right for editing before my first cup of coffee in the morning. I found nothing relevant for Scompton, but when I redid the search later, I did get results thru a search for Scompton AND Scarborough. I ought not to have deleted the entry based on a Google search turning up nothing.

  Personally, I generally don't see any value in having a section for nicknames for the municipality. But there is obviously precedent for having it (e.g. Toronto). The problem I have with these sections is that they end up including obvious entries (like "Hogtown" for Toronto), but then also up end up including nicknames that may be used in some circles but don't have particularly wide usage. The particular problem here in the Scarborough article is that so many of the nicknames have such a negative connotation -- perhaps that's just a reflection of public perception, but I do believe that it does, to a degree, give the reader the wrong impression of the place. Frankly, I am just waiting for someone to add "Scandahar" to the list.

  I'm not from Scarborough, so I will leave the list in the hands of folks who have a better sense of whether its inclusion is justified. Given your edits to the article, you are probably better placed to make that call than I.

Manual of style

Hi,

If you copy User:Bobblewik/monobook.js to User:Atrian/monobook.js, you will get a 'dates' tab in edit mode. You might find it useful for the things that you do with dates. Keep up the good work. bobblewik 11:11, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

You need to make it point at my subpages because you don't have any. Replace:

• User:Atrian/monobook.js/dates.js

with

• User:Bobblewik/monobook.js/dates.js

and

• User:Atrian/monobook.js/unitformatter.js

with

• User:Bobblewik/monobook.js/unitformatter.js

Copyvio

Thanks for bringing this to my attention — the process in this case is to replace the existing article text with {{copyvio|url=nhic.mnr.gov.on.ca/areas/areas_report.cfm?areaid=10293}} (you don't need to include the http: part, as the template automatically assumes it.) The template will then provide a boilerplate text that you copy and paste onto Wikipedia:Copyright problems. In a different situation, you'd paste the appropriate url after url=, of course. And then, finally, you add {{subst:cv}} to the user's talk page. I've already done all that, so you don't need to worry about it, but hopefully that helps you understand the process.
