I'd look at it if I could remember what it was... (That was a pint of cider and cooking a curry ago.) Peridon (talk) 21:56, 1 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
Ah yes. Blogs are best avoided for establishing notability, which is what the game is here today. You really need something reliable and published independently of your project. Reviews in known magazines (where the content comes from staff writers and not from Joe Q. Public. That sort of thing. As to cider, tonight I'm on the cheap stuff - Taurus from Aldi stores (actually a lot better than its price would seem to indicate). Personally, I'm mostly into Herefordshire/Gloucestershire (not counting the Bulmers stuff - although I do keep Woodpecker handy for young cousins/friends to sneak some of when they think I'm not looking (it is legal - minimum drinking age here is 5 and the youngest that camps with me is now 12); they don't take much - it's more the fun of doing it. Strongbow is OK when there's no real ale around. Anything from Weston's or Gwatkin's will be good, but be careful with Old Rosie. Named after a traction engine and quite powerful. I also like Black Rat (marketed by Mole's but brewed by Thatchers). If you live in the US, you have my sympathy. Here, cider means cider with alcohol, not plain apple juice. (A friend of mine classes Woodpecker as apple juice.. Her favourites are Old Rosie, Black Rat and Rudolph's Bollocks - but we've never found that again after a beer festival in a cathedral crypt. I kid you not. Peridon leads an interesting life... Peridon (talk) 22:26, 1 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
Preferably independent review, but interviews are possibly OK if not too PR. Peridon (talk) 11:00, 2 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Suggestion for unblock request edit

Hi Atagar, I have looked over your situation and I believe that you would be successful if you requested an unblock, with the following conditions:

  • You would change your username to a name that doesn't promote a website.
  • You would agree not to use your account in a manner that promotes software that you developed on article pages.
  • For software which you developed, you would agree to make requests for article content changes on the talk page of relevant articles, and you should note that you are affiliated with the software when you make those requests.

I hope that helps. --Pine 04:22, 25 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi Pine, thanks for looking into it! I've been attempting to talk with Alex (the admin that instituted the block) about it but he's on vacation so it's going slowly.
> You would change your username to a name that doesn't promote a website.
Interesting. 'atagar' is the name I use for myself (irc, email, and my personal site). For arm's next release I plan to move it to the torproject.org domain. Would you mind linking to the rules around usernames? I'm kinda surprised this is against the rules.
Found the section on this. It's not a commercial site so doesn't sound like a problem, but shrug. Unimportant.
> You would agree not to use your account in a manner that promotes software that you developed on article pages.
Of course.
> For software which you developed, you would agree to make requests for article content changes on the talk page of relevant articles, and you should note that you are affiliated with the software when you make those requests.
Sure, can do.

Hi, the relevant policy is Wikipedia:Username policy. However, since Atagar is your personal handle, and your domain is simply named for your handle, perhaps this is something that an administrator will agree to let continue. I think that of the three points I made, the latter two are most important in your case, and since you have agreed to them I would support @Alexf: unblocking you under the conditions above. P.S. Please remember to sign your talk page posts using --~~~~. Cheers, --Pine 04:45, 25 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Pine:, any thoughts on getting this account unblocked? Seems @Alexf: has been inactive since April 22nd. --Atagar (talk) 14

I have unblocked this account. As long as you don't add links to your personal website I don't see much of an issue with the username, but seeing User:Atagar add links to atagar.com - well, I assume you can imagine why that would be considered an issue. The other points mentioned by Pine are indeed more significant. Huon (talk) 21:02, 4 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
Great, thanks Huon! Yup, I can see why such links would look problematic, more than happy to avoid them. --Atagar (talk) 22
