Speedy deletion nomination of User:AssocWallCeilingIndustry edit

A tag has been placed on your user page, User:AssocWallCeilingIndustry, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be advertising which only promotes or publicises someone or something. Promotional editing of any kind is not permitted, whether it be promotion of a person, company, product, group, service, belief, or anything else. This is a violation of our policies regarding acceptable use of user pages — user pages are intended for active editors of Wikipedia to communicate with one another as part of the process of creating encyclopedic content, and should not be mistaken for free webhosting resources or advertising space. Please read the guidelines on spam, the guidelines on user pages, and, especially, our FAQ for Organizations.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. ◇HelenDegenerate◆ 19:39, 11 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

April 2023 edit

Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of username and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Salvio giuliano 19:51, 11 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

We are an industry association and are just looking to create a page that describes what we do. We are not selling any products, but serve to educate the construction industry about our represented products. We provide technical information such as building codes and have education, safety and event programming open to the public. You have other industry associations with pages on here so I am not sure why they qualify and we are blocked. I was in the process of setting up the page and would have added to it but you did not give me a chance. Please reverse this block and I will complete the page more fully.AssocWallCeilingIndustry (talk) 20:43, 11 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

You have not proposed a new username as instructed. Accounts are for individuals, not organizations, and this needs to be reflected in the username(your real name is not required). You edited your user page, which is not article space(the content of the encyclopedia is called "articles"), but a place for the operator of the account to tell about themselves as a Wikipedia editor or user.

Note that "looking to create a page that describes what we do" is considered a promotional purpose on Wikipedia, you don't have to be soliciting or selling something. Wikipedia is not a place for an organization to tell about itself- an article about an organization must summarize what independent reliable sources with significant coverage have chosen on their own to say about it, showing how it meets the special Wikipedia definition of a notable organization. Articles are typically written by independent editors wholly unconnected with the topic. Please read conflict of interest and paid editing. You won't be unblocked to, in the short term, edit about your organization. If that is your only goal here, this is the end of the line. If you are interested in being a general contributor and editing about topics unrelated to your conflict of interest, please tell what. I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 22:00, 11 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Wikipedia is not a directory, so an organization is not entitled to have a Wikipedia article just because it exists. All topics must be notable by Wikipedia's definition to merit inclusion. In the specific case of an organization, it must meet the notability criteria for companies and organizations. For this to happen, the organization must have already received significant coverage in multiple reliable and independent sources. We have no interest in what an organization wishes to say about itself, as this is an inherent conflict of interest.

The existence of other, similar articles isn't justification to have one about your organization. Each article must stand on its own merits for the reasons already mentioned. The articles you have looked at may be equally unsuitable and subject to deletion. With over 6.5 million articles and an entirely volunteer-based editing community, inappropriate articles can slip through the cracks. If you can point out specific articles that you don't think meet the notability requirements, then we would be open to reviewing them.

You also did not propose a new username, as your current one violates Wikipedia's username policy. Accounts are for individuals, not organizations or groups of people. Sorry, but this is non-negotiable. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 21:07, 11 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
