Thanks - The Texas Chain Saw Massacre

Just wanna say thanks for the edits to the article, it's really moving closer to FA. --The Taerkasten (talk) 10:16, 14 April 2010 (UTC)

Also, in your reference, could you provide the page numbers? They're usually needed for verifiable purposes. Thanks,--The Taerkasten (talk) 10:32, 14 April 2010 (UTC)
I'm not gonna have a lot of time until early June, and there's a current peer review going on, so could you occasionally check in on the PR and article from time to time? It'd be greatly appreciated.--The Taerkasten (talk) 17:02, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

Boys Don't Cry peer review

Hi, I've left some comment at Wikipedia:Peer review/Boys Don't Cry (film)/archive1; I hope they help! --BelovedFreak 21:34, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

Hi, I see you've stricken some of my comments and explained why something is as it is. That's fine, but the fact that I asked a particular question about the prose means that I think there's something unclear about it, and if I do, other readers might too. I may well be wrong of course, and you're perfectly entitled to disagree with me, but just explaining things to me in the peer review without addressing them in the article may mean that things are left unclear. Sorry, I don't mean that to sound like I'm telling you off! As I say, it's fine to disagree with what I say, but just bear in mind that if you have to explain it to one person, it may be unclear to others too! I will go through and make some changes to the prose. I didn't like to at first because not everyone wants that from a peer review. I'll try to do it bit by bit so that you can see exactly what I've changed and undo it if necessary. Although nobody owns any article here, if you're going to be the one working it up to WP:GAN and maybe even WP:FAC one day, you need to be comfortable with how it develops! Hopefully others will respond to your requests for help too.--BelovedFreak 10:15, 5 October 2010 (UTC)
Oh, and by the way, I realise that you haven't written all of the article; it's had a lot of editors over its time, so when I refer to you in the peer review, don't take it too personally! :) --BelovedFreak 10:20, 5 October 2010 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Geology of the Northern Territory

The article Geology of the Northern Territory has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Has no content about geology. Editor has edited two other article since creating this stub, so it is not actively under construction. Pointless stub until it has something to say about geology.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. PamD 11:49, 10 February 2012 (UTC)

File source problem with File:Sydney-ANZAC-War-Memorial.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Sydney-ANZAC-War-Memorial.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for violating copyright policy by copying text or images into Wikipedia from another source without verifying permission. You have been previously warned that this is against policy, but have persisted.

Please take this opportunity to be sure you understand our copyright policy and our policies regarding how to use non-free content. If you would like to be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. You have uploaded images multiple times that have been previously published, seemingly by different people, at different points on the internet, claiming yourself as the photographer. I uploaded this a few years agi under the fair use policy which is commonplace for all film articles, however because it's a copyright screenshot I do understand your POV. Images for this subject should be taken from Flickr under the appropriate license. Ashton 29 (talk) 12:10, 26 June 2013 (UTC)

Request reason:

I became a Wikipedia member a while ago, and was banned for uploading copyright images as can be seen above ^. Most of which I believed were "fair use" and did not intend to cause any breach of copyright status. I did not understand Wikipedia's copyright laws, therefore for most of the time had no idea why the images were reverted/deleted and had no idea I was breaking the rules at the time. However, I promptly learned the rules not too long ago, and ever since have been uploading images under the CC-BY-SA 2.0/2.5/3.0 status from Flickr, and none of my edits are ever vandalism or disruptive. I make sure of that. My images, all of which illustrate the article in the best ability (they are all of high quality). I will not, nor have I ever really made any disruptive edits, and have learned my lesson with copyright images as previously stated. If I am unblocked, I will promise to adhere to copyright laws, as I have no intention of uploading anything other than CreativeCommons Share Alike files. I have an interest in editing articles for the better, improving a lot of them is my goal (I have helped get a few articles on here promoted to Good Article status) so it's frustrating to see that I cannot edit because of my former misunderstanding of copyright laws. Ashton 29 (talk) 01:06, 11 February 2013 (UTC)

Decline reason:

Given your persistent, recent enagagement in sockpuppetry along with the other problems with this request and unblock at this time is extremely unlikely. I would direct you to the standard offer for blocked users and suggest that following its recommendations is basically your only remaining path to being unblocked. Beeblebrox (talk) 19:15, 11 February 2013 (UTC)

What problems were there with my request? Can you recommend an administrator for standard for blocked users? Ashton 29 (talk) 13:53, 12 February 2013 (UTC)

P.s. I have no intentions of engaging in sock puppetry again, hence my returning to this account. Ashton 29 (talk) 13:54, 12 February 2013 (UTC)

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

A few thoughts:

  • You have not been blocked for vandalism, so you do not need to defend yourself against it.
  • "Free use" does not encompass mere illustration, and the quality of the image is irrelevant. I would like to hear an explanation of your current understanding of Wikipedia's free use policy.
  • "I hate it and believe it to be unfair because he seems to have some... ": Whoever you are talking about, accusations of persuasion/manipulation/stalking against another editor rarely succeed in getting a blocked editor unblocked.

-- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 08:23, 11 February 2013 (UTC)

I understand that free use does not encompass illustration. My former understanding of copyright on Wiki was very low, hence the constant copyright violations. A lot of them time I was uploading screenshots from films and sometimes buildings, and I used guidance from Featured Articles with images licensed under fair use, such as Blade Runner. I believed that screenshots were free under fair use. However this was before I understood the copyright policy, when I was uploading un free images and before I was blocked. My current understanding is that unless you own the image, i.e. it's your own work, then you are not authorised to upload copyright photos that belong to someone else, with the exception of photos on Flickr that have a free license under an acceptable license, for example Creative Commons Share Alike (with the exception of Non Commercial Creative Commons). I am not in any way trying to accuse anyone of anything, that was just my personal perception on the situation. I realise I was blocked for image copyright violation and feel that I thoroughly understand the copyright policy. Ashton 29 (talk) 08:40, 11 February 2013 (UTC)

Your use of multiple Wikipedia accounts

Hi. An editor has opened an investigation into sockpuppetry by you. Sockpuppetry is the use of more than one Wikipedia account in a manner that contravenes community policy. The investigation is being held at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Ashton_29, where the editor who opened the investigation has presented their evidence. Please make sure you make yourself familiar with the guide to responding to investigations, and then feel free to offer your own evidence or to submit comments that you wish to be considered by the Wikipedia administrator who decides the result of the investigation. If you have been using multiple accounts (in a manner contrary to Wikipedia policy), please go to the investigation page and verify that now. Leniency is usually shown to those who promise not to do so again, or who did so unwittingly, but the abuse of multiple accounts is taken very seriously by the Wikipedia community.

Please unblock me

Ashton 29 (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

I deserve to be unblocked! I am an exemplary editor on Wikipedia, I revert vandalism, I only upload Creative Commons images that are supported by Wikipedia's copyright policy, I never engage in abuse, I've never vandalized and I am all for a comprehensive, up to date, superbly illustrated Wikipedia. I am particularly interested in editing Australian related articles and improving those without images or comprehensive coverage. I was blocked a long time ago for uploading copyright images of which I THEN did not know the status of, nor was I yet familiar with Wiki's image copyright policy (this was well over a year ago). I am fully educated on them now and cannot edit! I just want to be a member again. I have engaged in sock puppetry, purely because I just want to be apart of the team again! Only recently have I learned how seriously sock puppetry is taken by the Wikipedia community. It's never been my intention to defame an article or to compromise a Wikipedia page. I have helped in getting articles such as Days of Heaven into shape, please check the revision history of the article to see how it was before I edited it. Please unblock me, I promise my edits will never be un constructive or unnecessary and I will always seek Consensus. Ashton 29 (talk) 12:08, 26 June 2013 (UTC)

Decline reason:

Since you've continued to evade your block by editing without logging in, absolutely not. --jpgordon::==( o ) 13:38, 26 June 2013 (UTC)

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

You say "none of my edits are ever vandalism or disruptive". I also get the impression that you were not joking when you wrote "I am an exemplary editor on Wikipedia", amazingly enough. I am not sure what you think would be disruptive, if you don't think that the enormous amount of copyright infringement you have done is disruptive, and if you don't think your extensive sockpuppetry is disruptive. I am also not sure how you think those actions were "exemplary": you must have a very different idea what the word means than I have. I suppose, since you used the present tense, "none of my edits are ever vandalism" may well be intended to mean none of your recent edits, ignoring older ones. However, without clarification there is a danger that someone reading what you have written in your unblock requests might get the impression that you mean that none of your edits have ever been vandalism. Moreover, "It's never been my intention to defame an article [sic] or to compromise a Wikipedia page" unambiguously says "never", which is a mistake, and may again give a misleading impression. To avoid any risk of such misunderstanding, I will just mention a few edits you made in the past. You once created an article the full text of which was [Person's name] is an Indian American popadom. (For obvious reasons I am not repeating the person's name that you gave.) At least once you replaced the name of the person who was the subject of an article by a fictitious name, and at least twice to my knowledge you made false claims about the birth name of the subject of another article. You created an article in which you made unsourced negative claims about a person, almost certainly libellous. These were a long time ago, and I don't know whether you have done anything similar recently, but it seems better to avoid giving the misleading impression that have never been deliberately disruptive. One last point. I don't understand how you can say, in relation to copyright infringements, that you "had no idea [you were] breaking the rules at the time". You have been given dozens of messages about copyright on this page. In a ten percent sample of edits to this page before the current block, I found eight messages about copyright. If this is typical then you were informed about the problems about eighty times, but even if you had been told only those eight times, claiming that you "had no idea" is absurd. It is clear that you knew full well, and just ignored the messages as long as you thought you could get away with it. JamesBWatson (talk) 15:21, 26 June 2013 (UTC)

"You created an article in which you made unsourced negative claims about a person, almost certainly libellous." Those name replacement edits and adding false information such as the "popadom" was not done by me, I had my computer logged on and left Wikipedia open when I had some people over, it was a joke on their behalf, not mine. See how you only found one example of vandalism and it wasn't perpetrated by me. Ashton 29 (talk) 03:18, 27 June 2013 (UTC)

Regarding the copyright images, yes I was advised a number of times, but I never checked my talk page messages then and I was going by the article Blade Runner which has various copyrighted screenshots with fair use rationales, so I thought if they are on there and causing no problems, then obviously I can upload the same type of screenshot with fair use rationales. A lot of the images uploaded were these, and not a photograph or someone's work. Ashton 29 (talk) 03:20, 27 June 2013 (UTC)

  1. You say that I "only found one example of vandalism". In fact, I listed five vandalism edits in my message above. However, I see that all of those five edits took place in a short time, so I suppose you mean that they were all done on one occasion when other people used your account. Unfortunately, we have no way of telling whether an account has been used by more than one person or not, and frequently disruptive editors lie about such matters, and we take the line that the owner of an account has to accept responsibility for all use of the account, whether he/she made the edits in question or not. In fact, when an account has been used person without the consent of its owner by another, standard practice is to keep the account blocked indefinitely to prevent the same happening again, as we cannot tell whether it was a one-off use of an account that was left logged in, or whether someone else has the password to the account, and could do the same again. However, in this case, it does look to me as though what you say may well be true, and as far as I know nothing similar has happened again, so I am willing to accept your word about it, and leave it at that.
  2. Concerning your claim that you did not check your talk page and see the copyright messages, in this edit, this one, this one and this one you removed content your talk page while there were copyright warning messages on the page, and in the last two of those edits you even removed warnings about copyright. It is clear that you did check your talk page, more than once, while there were numerous warnings about copyright on the page: so numerous that you can scarcely have failed to notice that they were there. You may not have seen every message immediately when it came, but you did find out later that numerous messages had come. Also, since in those days a very prominent orange "You have new messages" notice appeared every time you so much as looked at a page, let alone edited it, while you were logged in if there were messages since you last checked your talk page, if you didn't check them then that is because you chose to ignore them. JamesBWatson (talk) 14:58, 27 June 2013 (UTC)
I'm not going to stop/prevent Ashton from being unblocked (I think it should be up to the reviewing Admin or community), I do note that they have in fact being rather good with getting photographs freely licensed (even if they were uploaded by a number of sock puppets they created) but in saying that, the creation of a number of sock puppets has been rather disruptive. Also they make bold changes to content (text and/or photos) but have a habit of reverting the change back to their preferred version without getting a consensus to make the change after it is disputed. Also the threats also have to stop[1][2].
If Ashton is unblocked, I do think there should be conditions on an unblock and a mentor to help them adjust and follow Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Bidgee (talk) 15:18, 27 June 2013 (UTC)

Thank you all for being understanding and seeing that all I want to do is enhance Wikipedia into being doing the best and representing its purpose as a Free Encyclopedia. My main interests are editing Australian articles and I do understand that consensus must be achieved from now on when updating images. Usually the images that I add are merely updated or better quality, it's not simply because I think my view on an article should be upheld each and every time - although I do admit that previously I did tend to revert articles to my version because I did thing that my updates were more valuable or necessary (particularly on the Melbourne and Swan River pages). I promise if I am unblocked to gain considerable consensus and support. Thank you JamesBWatson for taking my word on those pages that were vandalised under my name, I honestly did not even know that five edits were made on my account, I was only aware of the name change edit regarding the "American Indian poppadom". I know who did vandalism these articles, when they did it (I had people over one afternoon/evening) and I know they did it on my account, however I do not let anyone use my computer now and I can assure use this will not happen again should I ever be unblocked. I can also promise you that a copyright image will never be uploaded if I am unblocked. Like I said my only interest is getting Australian related articles (mostly) into excellent shape with substantial illustration and accurate, well sourced content. You have to understand that my interest is this, and only this, and I have no interest what so ever in vandalising or bringing down the quality of this website. I also consider myself very aware of the rules of this website regarding licensing and images, sourcing/referencing and POV, bold changes (of which I won't make without consensus) etc. I am also happy with having a mentor monitor and guide me through my possible unblock process. I am not proud of these threats, and will not engage in that kind of behavior again, like I said all I want to be is a member of the community. Ashton 29 (talk) 06:12, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

Unfortunately my support and good faith for you is now nil, since you've been socking again via Coronaro (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) and 60.231.212.97 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log)! This is in violation of WP:EVADE. Bidgee (talk) 07:36, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

I'm not using Coronaro ????????? Why can't I edit on an IP if that IP is unblocked? It's hard going through Wikipedia and finding so many glaring mistakes and not being able to fix them. Ashton 29 (talk) 09:51, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

I will not edit on Wikipedia from now on unless I am unblocked. Ashton 29 (talk) 10:14, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

Non-free rationale for File:Picnicathangingrock.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Picnicathangingrock.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Mdann52 (talk) 13:05, 26 June 2013 (UTC)

I uploaded this because many film articles of Featured Article status such as Blade Runner had the same type of screenshots with identical fair use rationale.Ashton 29 (talk) 13:35, 26 June 2013 (UTC)

Request reason:

I have appealed a few times to be unblocked, and its the same reason each time. I want to be apart of Wiki's community and I want to edit properly, following the rules just like everybody else. My passion is editing and building Wikipedia, not bringing it down. My reasons for previous blocks are addressed in the above unblock attempts. I believe I was not unblocked because I was still editing under IP's and socks. I have not edited on Wikipedia at all for over a month in an attempt to prove I can and will follow the rules if given another chance. As per above, I also intend to follow the image copyright policies completely, which I am now completely familiar with. Ashton 29 (talk) 15:05, 2 August 2013 (UTC)

Decline reason:

As you have been advised previously, the way back to the Wikipedia community is through the standard offer. The very first requirement for a standard offer request to be considered is to wait six months without socking; however each time you evade your block the clock is reset. As you have not met the conditions to even consider an unblock, your appeal is declined. Jezebel'sPonyobons mots 18:07, 2 August 2013 (UTC)

Request reason:

I would like to be unblocked on Wikipedia. I have not edited on this website for six months (since July 1) which includes socking (or in any other dishonest way). The reason for my interest in returning, is that I would like to be a committed, respected member of the community with regard to improving content/article illustration as well as general maintenance to articles. Previously, I never really understood or cared about the rules but this certainly isn’t the case now. I have no interest in bringing the website down, but I certainly do have a strong interest in editing articles. Vandalism was never apart of the kind of behaviour that got me in trouble, however I did once leave my account logged in and some friends did change/remove content. This will certainly not happen if I return however. I would appreciate being re-considered. I will keep my word and remain completely faithful and compliant to the rules imposed if so. Ashton 29 (talk) 00:48, 7 December 2013 (UTC)

Decline reason:

I see a few edits on 2 July which look to me very much as though they were made by you, but even if we take your word for it and accept 1 July as the date of your last block-evasion, 1 July 2013 + 6 months = 1 January 2014. We are not there yet. JamesBWatson (talk) 13:51, 7 December 2013 (UTC)

Which edits on July 2 were they? Ashton 29 (talk) 01:21, 8 December 2013 (UTC) I see those edits in question and yes they were by me. I was under the impression they were made on July 1, but I recently checked the date and it was July 2. Ashton 29 (talk) 11:08, 2 January 2014 (UTC)

Request reason:

I have appealed a few times to be unblocked, however this time I have waited the full 6 month duration to lodge my request. The reason is, once again, the same as previously stated in the other unblock requests. I am serious about editing on Wikipedia and have completely honourable intentions with the website. No longer will my edit warring and uploading copyrighted content continue because, as previously mentioned, I am committed to being a valuable member of this website and make constructive edits. I would like to be given a chance here. My last edit was July 2 2013. Ashton 29 (talk)

Accept reason:

Unblocked under the standard offer, with restrictions (see below). Yunshui  11:03, 7 January 2014 (UTC)

The AN discussion has been archived with a pretty clear consensus to unblock with several conditions. I am therefore willing to unblock your account, if you indicate your acceptance of the following restrictions:
  • You are limited to one account indefinitely; you may not create or use any other accounts besides this one.
  • You are prohibited from uploading any files claimed as your own work. This prohibition may be appealed at WP:AN no earlier than 07/08/2014.
  • You may only upload files which are not claimed as your own work via the Files for upload process. You may not upload any files outside this process. This restriction may be appealed at WP:AN no earlier than 07/08/2014.
  • Violation of any of these conditions will be considered grounds for any administrator to apply an indefinite block without warning.
If you are willing to abide by these restrictions, please leave a message here confirming that, and I or another administrator will lift the block. Yunshui  10:39, 7 January 2014 (UTC)

I confirm I am willing to abide by these restrictions. Thank you for accepting my request. Ashton 29 (talk) 11:02, 7 January 2014 (UTC)
