GA Sweeps August update
editThanks to everyone's dedicated efforts to the GA Sweeps process, a total of 215 articles were swept in July! We are currently nearly 80% done with Sweeps, with under 600 articles left to review. With 50 members, that averages out to about 12 articles per person. Once the remaining articles drop to 100, I'll help in reviewing the last articles (I'm currently taking a break). If each member reviews an article every other day this month (or several!), we'll be completely finished. Again, I want to thank you for using your time to ensure the quality of the older GAs. Feel free to recruit other editors who have reviewed GANs in the past and might be interested in the process. The more editors, the less the workload, and hopefully the faster this will be completed. If you have any questions about reviews or the process let me know and I'll be happy to get back to you. Again, thank you for taking the time to help with the process, I appreciate your efforts! --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talk • contrib) 19:22, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

- I would love to, but I'm not really knowledgeable enough to help you out with that I'm affraid. I have absolutely no professional knowledge of insects, I just like making articles on species. It started with the translation of Dutch articles and gradually I started making my own, but I rely completely on the source texts on internet for the articles. Cheers and keep up the good work! Ruigeroeland (talk) 10:08, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
- Haha, point taken. I'll see if I can free some time to expand my knowledge, but I'll probably keep concentrating on adding species for the most part. Ruigeroeland (talk) 10:17, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

Kaniska canace
editThanks for your message. I am rather new to this game so advice is welcome. I looked into the Kaniska canace situation and reversed my change in the name. There seems to be many synonyms for this species but I believe Kaniska is the best one for now. These things seem to change rapidly. I also changed the name in the genus Nymphalis to match and added the subgenus category. I hope this remedies the situation. What do you think? I also added a few references to the end of the article. There probably should be more.

For your Lep morphology article?
editI don't know anything about morphology, but I stumbled upon this picture on the NL wiki, might be useful? Seems to be called "retinaculum". In dutch they refer to it as (own translation) "wing hook". http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Lepidoptera_Psychidae_Oiketicus_freno_o_frenulo.jpg There might be more interesting stuff in the article on butterflies itself: http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vlinder Furthermore, they have an article on butterfly migration (is that a correct english term?), see: http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vlindertrek. Is that interesting for the English wiki too? Ruigeroeland (talk) 13:09, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
- I'm working on translating the Lep migration article. It's a featured article on NL! Would you mind copy-editing it when it's done (grammer and correct English terms mainly)? Ruigeroeland (talk) 16:17, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
- Translation is done, see Lepidoptera migration. I have some doubts about the section "In general", because I do not know if the English language has the same problem as the Dutch language, i.e. I don't know if "migratory species" could be confused with "strays" in English as is the case in Dutch. Furthermore, there might be some referencing problems at the end of the article, but I'm really not that great with refs, so if you could have a look? I kept out some paragrafs there are really specific for the Dutch and Belgian situation. Maybe we need to add some more global examples, but I don't have the knowledge to do that. I think it will be expanded in time..! Cheers. Ruigeroeland (talk) 10:45, 8 October 2009 (UTC)
- Great! I noticed NielsnGW filtered out some of the spelling and grammar mistakes. I'm not a native speaker, so I tend to make some questionable sentences at times.. :) Ruigeroeland (talk) 12:35, 8 October 2009 (UTC)

Hi, AshLin!
Long time! The beautiful QoS is high on my "wish to see" list of Palaearctic butterflies and one that stands a distinct chance of colonizing the UK under the influence of global warming. Are you still working on Lepidoptera? If so, is this a species you'd consider working on?
The main UK reference I have is short on concrete information... :-(

Re:A new box for the Insect orders showing typical characteristics?
editRe:Copy editing of Lepidoptera morphology
editI normally like to add info and stuff, but you added so much that all that needs to be done is organization. It seems that the organization is very poor= their is a lot of subsections, maybe we can find a way to organize them to those of each stage?

Each section would describe each other part of the life cycle: The larva and imago. Other then that, there's a lot of galleries and one & two sentence paragraphs that need to be merged (maybe expanded) Bugboy52.4 | =-= 19:59, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
- Ouch! That's twice I'm pilloried ;-). See, I was in the business of getting things into the articles first so I got info from various sources so the headings are a sort of super-set of headings from various books/refs. Naturally, it meant a copy-edit and rewrite, something I was planning to do much later. Don't get fooled by the amount of material. We still have gaps and few of these sections are presently a good representation of their topic. Lots of work before it becomes Good! Lots of images and diagrams required too!
- As regards the section tree, definitely we could simplify. We could nest deeper also.
However, I would recommend keeping a short section on egg, caterpillar, pupa apart from the imago, because it becomes confusing to younger readers or people new to biology to try to tackle say, all three heads at once. This could follow the after the adult morphology so that only people who want to know about morphology of metamorphic states could refer to them. AshLin (talk) 05:28, 27 November 2009 (UTC)
- I looked at the definition of morphology, the details of internal structure we could palm off to Physiology of insects/lepidoptera/whatever. :-) More articles, yippee! AshLin (talk) 05:46, 27 November 2009 (UTC)

Ben-Hur relocation
editThe Roman Civil War ended in 44 BC. Christ was born 44 years later. So why exactly does The Tale of the Christ belong there?

Ecology
editHi AshLin - thanks for the recognition on Ecology!! I was hoping to have some input on the discussion page about the 'Too Long' tag at the head of the article (see [[2]]. I would like to have this tag removed, but perhaps you might have a different idea on this. Ecology is a difficult one to judge in this respect - as you can appreciate the magnitude of this subject area. I think that the article could be shortened in sections - but I'm not too sure about this. Even a sentence in the discussion page on your thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!Thompsma (talk) 18:55, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
Lepidoptera
editThat sounds great. I hadn't really looked at Lepidoptera morphology, but I'd be happy to help with it. The stuff you've done with that article is amazing! I think we could be considering 2 GAs by the time we're done. ALI nom nom 14:42, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

Article duplication
editSurely Postal convention states of India only duplicates the section on convention states in Postage stamps and postal history of the Indian states? Is there really any good reason to have this when a redirect would do well? Postage stamps and postal history of the Indian states is not even long enough or comprehensive enough to warrant removing the section either. Thoughts? ww2censor (talk) 13:35, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
