Speedy deletion of artesunate/amodiaquine?

In my opinion flagging the article Artesunate/amodiaquine for speedy deletion is rather hasty. It is a copy/rename of the article ASAQ which I redirected to be consistent with other ACT medications. I noted this in the history. I'm sorry if it sounds like an advert, I took what was there, contributed what I have time to (medical journal citations etc) and hope that other editors will be motivated to add to the stub. I honestly don't think that speedy deletion of an article describing a new medication is appropriate. Flag it for revision so readers are warned and editors invited. If its deleted then where do people find the information? The article has to start somewhere. I contributed what I had found in my own research because the WP article was inadequate and incomplete. -- Alan (talk) 13:55, 18 January 2013 (UTC)

Trishna

Hi,

Thanks for your help with the "Balrampur" page. Still lots more data to be added there! While working on that, I thought its time to have a page on "Trishna". So created one and its on "Articles for Creation". Still working on it. And today got the message that it has been rejected as it is written in the form of a magazine article and not a Wiki Page. Copyright violations and deletion of uploads

Two issues have cropped up connected to the Trishna article.

1) To use photos in the Trishna article, I had uploaded some photos to Wikimedia Commons with the aim to use the links in the article. Those photos have been cited for copyright violations and deleted. While citing the reason for the deletion, the link where these photos already exist on the internet has been mentioned.

e.g. the photo Trishna.jpg I uploaded on Commons was linked to the following link on the net of the existing photo: https://plus.google.com/photos/105778157114530197375/albums/5103683693653612001/5185069520467246242?pid=5185069520467246242&oid=105778157114530197375)

This site on Google Web Albums is my own site where I have uploaded all my photos! Only thing is that there I use the name "Ajai Singh". How do I resolve this issue? I have already posted this query on the Commons:Village Pump.

Can I directly link my Google photos to the Trishna article? Or again it will be a copyright violation? Your suggestion please!

2) The other issue is of citations to be used in the article. All the newspaper articles used do not exist online as archives of most Indian newspapers commenced only around the year 1999/2000. Though there is a format to Cite:News (and which I am using), is not available online. I had with me the scanned articles with me, which I had posted on Commons again to use them so that a reader can see the contents of the articles. This again has been cited for copyright violation. So, do I just cite the news (as per the format) and leave it at that? Will it satisfy the person clearing the article finally about the authenticity of facts mentioned?

I have elsewhere also requested your help to split the existing article into two parts as suggested by you.

TemplateData

Hey AshLin

I'm sending you this because you've made quite a few edits to the template namespace in the past couple of months. If I've got this wrong, or if I haven't but you're not interested in my request, don't worry; this is the only notice I'm sending out on the subject :).

So, as you know (or should know - we sent out a centralnotice and several watchlist notices) we're planning to deploy the VisualEditor on Monday, 1 July, as the default editor. For those of us who prefer markup editing, fear not; we'll still be able to use the markup editor, which isn't going anywhere.

What's important here, though, is that the VisualEditor features an interactive template inspector; you click an icon on a template and it shows you the parameters, the contents of those fields, and human-readable parameter names, along with descriptions of what each parameter does. Personally, I find this pretty awesome, and from Monday it's going to be heavily used, since, as said, the VisualEditor will become the default.

The thing that generates the human-readable names and descriptions is a small JSON data structure, loaded through an extension called TemplateData. I'm reaching out to you in the hopes that you'd be willing and able to put some time into adding TemplateData to high-profile templates. It's pretty easy to understand (heck, if I can write it, anyone can) and you can find a guide here, along with a list of prominent templates, although I suspect we can all hazard a guess as to high-profile templates that would benefit from this. Hopefully you're willing to give it a try; the more TemplateData sections get added, the better the interface can be. If you run into any problems, drop a note on the Feedback page.

Atrophaneura

Hi AshLin. I see you've split some of the Atrophaneura back into their original genera. This doesn't surprise me because the genus seems to be quite unstable, but I'm also a bit sceptical because your reference (http://www.insects-online.de/frames/papilio.htm) was last updated in 2005. Are there any other references that are more recent? If the split is in fact taxonomically accepted, then I'd be happy to clean things up a bit, seeing as the article for Atrophaneura still lists Byasa and Losaria species, but also lists Byasa and Losaria as synonyms. Pachliopta would also have to be split I imagine. JamesDouch (talk) 06:10, 1 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi James, This new classification of genera appears in "The Book of Indian Butterflies" (2009) by Isaac Kehimkar. I also saw these new names in scientific papers. Since I did not have anything on why and how the splits took place, I asked a Lepidopterist friend of mine, Peter Smetacek, for material on this. He said that this has generally been accepted. I asked for references. He has a copy of :

• Bozano, GC (ed.). Guide to the Butterflies of the Paearctic Region, Papilionidae Part 1, Subfamily Papilioninae, Tribe Troidini. Milano 2010: Omnes Artes. pp. 1–86. {{cite book}}: Cite uses deprecated parameter |authors= (help)CS1 maint: location (link)

Peter sent me a snap of the two pages in which the text of this book discusses the split. Its a bugger's muddle, with grouping, regrouping etc, etc. I found it difficult to follow and am not clear at this point about thewhole discussion. However, conveniently for me, the authors conclude with these words:

In order to conform to general opinion, in this work we consider Pachliopta, Troides, Atrophaneura and Byasa at generic level.

The source goes on to list the genera of Troidini in two groups :

Genera found in the Palearctic Region :

• Pachliopta
• Troides
• Atrophaneura
• Byasa

Genera not found in the Palearctic Region :

• Battus
• Pharmacophagus
• Cressida
• Euryades
• Parides
• Losaria
• Trogonoptera
• Ornithoptera

I trust that the change is acceptable then, knowing that the references do exist. I also checked my field guide, and an acclaimed encyclopaedia from 2011 (both on Australian butterflies), and both use Pachliopta instead of Atrophaneura. Well I guess we have two options: either create pages for Byasa, Losaria etc., and move the appropriate species there. Or we can leave all species on the same page (called 'Windmills') but emphasise that they belong to different genera, as was done with page Birdwing. JamesDouch (talk) 00:30, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

I suggest that the conservative option is best for now - i.e. we retain the page but name it "Red-bodied Swallowtails". "Windmills" are Byasa - I cannot see any reason to prefer it over Clubtails Losaria, Batwings Atrophaneura or "Roses" Pachliopta. AshLin (talk) 11:19, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

Ok I thought all of these genera could be called windmills. There is a complication in changing the name:

• When I tried moving 'Atrophaneura' to 'Red-bodied Swallowtail', I found that the name is being used as a disambiguation page.
• So I moved the contents of 'Red-bodied Swallowtail' to 'Red-bodied Swallowtail (disambiguation)'. But now 'Red-bodied Swallowtail' still exists as a redirect to 'Red-bodied Swallowtail (disambiguation)'.
• So I placed a deletion template on 'Red-bodied Swallowtail', so it would be deleted, so that I can then move 'Atrophaneura' into that name (don't know if that was the best way to do it). But someone replaced the template with a redirect anyway. Can you think of a solution?

GOCE December 2013 Blitz wrap-up and January Drive invitation

December Notes from the Guild of Copy Editors The December blitz ran from December 8–14. The theme for this blitz was articles tied in some way to religion. Seven editors knocked out 20 articles over the course of the week. Our next blitz will be in February, with a theme to be determined. Feel free to make theme suggestions at the Guild talk page! The January 2014 Backlog elimination drive is a month-long effort to reduce the size of the copy edit backlog. The drive begins on January 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and ends on January 31 at 23:59 (UTC). Our goals are to copy edit all articles tagged in October and November 2012 and complete all requests placed before the end of 2013. Barnstars will be awarded to anyone who copy edits at least one article, and special awards will be given to the top five in the following categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", "Number of articles of over 5,000 words", "Number of articles tagged in October and November 2012", and "Longest article". We hope to see you there! Coordinator election: Voting is open for candidates to serve as GOCE coordinators from 1 January through 30 June 2014. Voting will run until the end of December.
