June 2011 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to the encyclopedia, one or more of the external links you added do not comply with our guidelines for external links and have been removed. Wikipedia is not a collection of links; nor should it be used as a platform for advertising or promotion, and doing so is contrary to the goals of this project. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page before reinserting it. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. Thank you. PTJoshua (talk) 23:56, 20 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Please stop adding advertising or inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. It is considered spamming, and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising. Thanks.   Will Beback  talk  21:24, 17 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

These links are NOT advertising - nothing is being sold or promoted. These links are merely a means of keeping up-to-date with Runyon Canyon happenings and it's community. I work for the city as a web developer in their recreation and parks department. These links are approved an all information posted on the sites are accurate and a very good reference for anyone that is interested in more information about the park. Please lock these links so others can no longer remove them - I would appreciate your help in this.

Asaporito90046, thanks for your work at the park. However the website clearly says that it is not official and is not connected to the Parks & Rec Dept. It also contains advertisements and products for sale. And it has very little content. The most substantive part I found in a quick look was a set of recipes that have no obvious connection to the park. One link in the "external links" section is more than enough exposure. A strict interpretation of WP:EL would not even allow that one link - so please don't push it.   Will Beback  talk  21:52, 17 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
Please stop adding multiple links to your projects. If you continue your account may be blocked and the website blacklisted.   Will Beback  talk  22:07, 17 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Do you work for wikipedia or something Will? I really don't understand why you are investing so much time and energy into trying to ruin my hard work. The fact that you are going out of your way to attempt to ruin my hard work is really baffling to me and I'm taking it very personal. Please let the page alone - it isn't hurting anyone, please move on to another project. This is starting to getting ridiculous. I haven't been able to put any work into the website or the park today because I've too busy undoing everything that you have erased. This is not constructive nor is it even healthy or positive. Please stop.

According to whom is this the "official" website? Does it belong to the city? Apparently not. According to "whois", it belongs to someone named Andrew Saporito.[1] Please do not mischaracterize your website, which describes itself as a fan site right on the front page. And please stop adding links to your social networking pages. This is your third warning.   Will Beback  talk  23:10, 17 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
I have removed the link entirely, as it is not compliant with Wikipedia standards. See WP:FANSITE. If you continue to add links to your fansite your account will be blocked. Rather then expending your effort promoting that link, I suggest your energy would be better directed towards improving the article.   Will Beback  talk  23:19, 17 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Will - my phone number is 3xx.9xx.5xxx, I would love for you to give me a call to talk this over. I feel like we must know one another. Are you kidding me? Is this a prank? I can't imagine that you are serious about what you are doing. Please give me a call - I feel that after we talk, you will be cooperative. After what I've been going through with you today - I'm waiting for someone to pop out and tell me that this is all just a prank on me. Please say it isn't so. I really can't understand what your reasoning behind all of this is. I don't want to assume that you are a bad guy, I don't want to have hard feelings about what you are doing to me and I would really like to feel better about why you are making these decisions. My phone line is open and you are welcome to call me at anytime to talk this over. We need to figure out a way to make this work because I will NOT be going anywhere - my project is important to me and it's important that people like you see that. I need you to cooperate and I don't think that is going to happen until we get a chance to speak. Thank you and have a great night.

I'm happy for your involvement in your project, and I wish you good luck with it. But I don't think you're paying attention to what I'm saying. The website in question is clearly not an "official" website belonging to the park. On the contrary, it labels itself as a fan site with no connection to the city. Fansites are not included in "external links" sections. Further, the website does not include especially useful information that can't be found elsewhere, meaning there's no reason to set aside the normal rule. I'd ask you to please read the relevant guideline, WP:EL, before responding here again.   Will Beback  talk  04:02, 18 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

No it's you that is not listening to what I'm saying. I can change the site to say "Official" website all you want. I run the website and I can make it say anything I want to say. I can even make the city website say Fan site, because I run that too. I've already told you the legalities of why it says fan site - that doesn't mean it's not the official site. I own a 100+ runyon canyon domains and can have them all say whatever I want them too. Just because you only read two or three pages - don't say that RunyonCanyon-LosAngeles doesn't have additional information on it that other websites don't have. Both the LA Times and other sites got their information from my sites. Every single link on the references section is tied to my Runyon Canyon sites in some way. Back off of the Runyon Canyon site and move on - I'm not going to drop this subject, I'm far to passionate. I can keep switching it back all day / every day. If you are going to apply these rules to me then I'm going to expect that you apply them to EVERY OTHER referring link.

That's why we don't allow self-published sources.   Will Beback  talk  04:39, 18 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Who is "We" - do you work at Wikipedia? You still haven't answered me. I don't understand who you are or what you have out for me. Really what is this all about? Why aren't all of the other sources being harrassed by you? Go bother them! My intentions are good and everything was fine for months until you came along and start F@#$@ with the page. Why are you doing this? Seriously - really! why don't you call me? what are you worried about? block your number if you are scared. I really don't know what the heck is going on?

I've done everything that you've asked so far (and I really don't know why) - I've only put ONE link and I labeled it "Fan Site" just like you asked - why are you trying to still persue this? why man seriously. Can you please stop. I need this, the city needs this and the park needs this.

Now you've blocked me? what the heck is wrong with you man? are you having a bad day? are you depressed? I don't have time for this man - seriously. there is a lot more riding on this page than just your pride.

Are you also editing using the Bchung90046 ‎ account? If so, please stop. Only one account per person.   Will Beback  talk  04:59, 18 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Now I have NO IDEA what you are talking about. Put my link back up on the page - I've followed ALL of your rules and guidelines. I see from you talk page that you've been doing the same exact thing to others on the site today as well. back off Will. I don't need this headache right now. Put my link back up on the page. Please.

The excellent guidance you are receiving from Will Beback edit

Hello, and Welcome to Wikipedia,

Before you go on a campaign attacking an editor who is far more experienced than you are, why don't you spend an hour or two studying some of Wikipedia's core policies and guidelines: Because we have a system of blue links, you can click and learn about the Five pillars of Wikipedia. That informative document has lots of other links that will help educate you about the neutral point of view, conflict of interest, reliable sources and self published sources. So read and ponder these pages, and decide if you want to contribute to the world's greatest encyclopedia in compliance with our policies and guidelines, or not. These basic principles are non-negotiable for those who choose to exercise the privilege of editing here. Feel free to ask questions, but here's some friendly advice: a confrontational attitude is unlikely to accomplish much here. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 05:21, 18 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
