MVAPICH edit

A tag has been placed on MVAPICH, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the article and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Nowlab edit

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Nowlab, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://nowlab.cse.ohio-state.edu. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. Speedy deletion of Nowlab edit

A tag has been placed on Nowlab, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam as well as Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. FlyingToaster 04:52, 1 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

December 2008 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but you removed a speedy deletion tag from Nowlab, a page you have created yourself. If you do not believe the page should be deleted, you can place a {{hangon}} tag on the page, under the existing speedy deletion tag (please do not remove the speedy deletion tag), and make your case on the page's talk page. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. Thank you. FlyingToaster 04:53, 1 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion of Nowlab edit

A tag has been placed on Nowlab requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must include on the external site the statement "I, (name), am the author of this article, (article name), and I release its content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 and later." You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

Thank you for uploading Image:Mvapich.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. §hep¡Talk to me! 23:59, 2 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

MVAPICH edit

Hi. From your explanation, I'm afraid you have a conflict of interest with the article's subject, and generally that is not a good thing. Often, it is hard to be neutral and look at the article objectively if said article is about something that you are heavily involved with in real life, so please be careful when editing this article.

About the tags, I have too concerns. First, is the software notable? Second, does the software have coverage from third-party reliable sources? (See also Wikipedia:Verifiability#Self-published_sources) These two problems are often closely related, because in order to verify notability, you need to cite information from other references (not website of the software's producers). Softwares are generally notable when other people review, discuss, or otherwise comment, positively or negatively, on them. And "reliable source" means these reviews do not come from random blogs, forums, etc but from websites of professional people who are "trustworthy or authoritative in relation to the subject at hand."

Please read the links to Wikipedia policies in my comment above, they may give you an idea about what the article is lacking and how you may improve it to comply with Wikipedia requirements. Happy editing! --PeaceNT (talk) 11:27, 11 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Asampat. Thank you for your detailed rationale. You probably have seen by now that the article has been deleted, because several other administrators and users viewed this article as an advertisement for a non-notable subject. (see also Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/MVAPICH). Anyway, I'd still like to address the website links you gave me: http://www.globenewswire.com/newsroom/news.html?d=123477 is a press release; http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2003/11/031118073440.htm and http://whitepapers.zdnet.com/abstract.aspx?docid=377814 say the materials are sourced/taken from the Ohio state university. So none of these articles are written from third-party perspective, thus cannot verify notability. http://www.tacc.utexas.edu/research/users/features/index.php?m_b_c=opensource seems to be providing only a passing mention of MVAPICH. Please keep in mind that a software is not automatically notable just because it is free, or open source, or used by many people. It is only notable if others (not the creator) discuss and write about it extensively. When notability is not verified, Wikipedia cannot have an article on that subject. Therefore, I'd ask you to carefully search for sources (see WP:RS for information on which can be considered reliable sources) before rewriting and recreting this article. cheers, --PeaceNT (talk) 14:26, 14 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
