February 2019 edit

Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. You can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing →   Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary. Please stop reverting edits without a proper summary. Not all edits are vandalism. Please try to investigate further before reverting an IP edits. I saw your name tagged as Non-autoconfirmed user rapidly reverting edits. Please read all our guidelines first.
Sincerely,

Recent Revert edit

I noticed your recent revert (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Audemars_Piguet&type=revision&diff=881485857&oldid=881485706). Can you explain? Thanks. OxbridgeGate (talk) 22:03, 2 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

February 2019 edit

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. You appear to be repeatedly reverting or undoing other editors' contributions. Although this may seem necessary to protect your preferred version of a page, on Wikipedia this is known as "edit warring" and is usually seen as obstructing the normal editing process, as it often creates animosity between editors. Instead of reverting, please discuss the situation with the editor(s) involved and try to reach a consensus on the talk page.

If editors continue to revert to their preferred version they are likely to be blocked from editing Wikipedia. This isn't done to punish an editor, but to prevent the disruption caused by edit warring. In particular, editors should be aware of the three-revert rule, which says that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Edit warring on Wikipedia is not acceptable in any amount, and violating the three-revert rule is very likely to lead to a block.

I think you need a antivandalism training course. Please stop reverting edits without proper summary. I previously warned you about it. You should explain cause of reverting in edit summary. What is vandalism and what is not, you need to learn that. Please complete the short course and then start reverting vandalism.
Sincerely,
Masum Rezatalk 01:11, 3 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

CVUA Training edit

Hi - please see your training page at User:Girth Summit/CVUA/AryanTheArticleArtistPlease read through the instructions there, and through our guidelines on WP:Vandalism, and then respond to the first part about enabling Twinkle. Cheers GirthSummit (blether) 13:46, 4 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Twinkle edit

I just saw your message in counter vandalism course's page. You can only use Twinkle in desktop site. I mean it doesn't work on mobile site. First things first enable Twinkle from gadgets section. Open en.wikipedia.org from your browser. If it redirects to en.m.wikipedia.org then click desktop at the very end of the page. It should redirect you back to desktop site. Then wait for Twinkle script to load(If you are on a slow connection). You will see "TW" on the page. That is Twinkle menu. Click on it and you will see some options like Warn, Wel or something like these.
Sincerely,
Masum Rezatalk 17:12, 7 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Notices/Warnings edit

I might be here because of your Twinkle use as well, if that is what you're using to post notices and warnings to user talk pages. Your posts are not being signed and they are not creating section headings (typically month & year). For an example see here. Whatever means you are using to post these notifications, please stop until you find a correction for these issues, or consider another method, such as adding the templates manually. Thank you - wolf 15:43, 8 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

(addendum) - I noticed on your userpage that you have userboxes that state you don't use Twinkle or any tools. If that is the case, and you are manually adding warning templates to user talk pages, then you also need to add a section header, (on a new line, one space after the last post, typically month & year. (eg; == February 2019 ==) After adding the template, you need to add your signature, with 4 tildes (eg; ~~~~).

Using the example linked above, it would be added manually like so;

== February 2019 ==
{{subst:Uw-vandalism1}} ~~~~

If you require any further assistance, you can contact the Help Desk. - wolf 16:06, 8 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
Ok, well I see that you have changed your userpage, and from your recent edits it appears you are now in fact using Twinkle. The notices you're adding now have section headings (when required) and your signature is being added. So that problem appears resolved,
I do however have one more item to bring to your attention. While looking through your contribs to check your notices, it was clearly obvious that you are checking off many of your edits as "minor" (indicated with an m) when in fact some of them are not minor. Some are no where close. Minor edits are typically the addition of a missing comma, or the correcting of a misspelled word or the fixing of some part of incorrect markup. You have made edits that changed content as much as +/- 7.7kB and marked it as "minor". Please don't abuse this function in this manner. Thank you. - wolf 00:47, 11 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
Hi Thewolfchild - just so you know, I have been going through the basics of countervandalism with AryanTheArticleArtist via CVUA. I confess that I'd overlooked that they were marking edits as minor - that is my bad, I should have picked up on it and brought it to their attention already.
AryanTheArticleArtist - Wolf is right in this regard, you shouldn't mark anything but the most insignificant changes as minor. It's nothing to worry about now it's been pointed out, just something to remember for the future. I should have already pointed this out to you, so apologies for my omission. GirthSummit (blether) 20:03, 12 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Girth Summit: Thank you for the reply. I wanted to ask if perhaps you know if they also read and understood my comments above about Twinkle use, and adding notifications manually, including sub-headings and signatures. My post above is quite detailed so hopefully it got through, but there was no reply or acknowledgement. Perhaps you could check that? And also advise them that communication is extremely important in a collaborative environment such as this. They need to engage on talk pages. Thanks - wolf 10:08, 18 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
Your comments were echoing some of the stuff we have gone over in the CVUA course - hopefully you'll have noticed that Aryan has started adding warning templates using Twinkle more appropriately now. Cheers GirthSummit (blether) 10:33, 18 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Warnings related to Kara Mia edit

Slow down please. See a deletion? Maybe read the edit summary and (keeping in mind WP:CAREFUL while engaging in WP:BOLD) discuss the issue on the article's talk page with the other editor before you revert. Also, keep in mind Wikipedia:Don't template the regulars. Shearonink (talk) 22:40, 13 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Recent reverts edit

Hi - I was just doing some spot checking of your recent reverts, and I came across a couple that I'd like to discuss.

  • Can you explain why you reverted this?
I reverted that because he added "Sir" in front of the name.
Did you check the articles of the people who were edited? All of the titles that were added in that edit were actually correct - that was easy to check since there were wikilinks to their articles. It would be possible to have a discussion about whether the honorific titles should or should not be used in a table like this, but that would be something to talk about on the talk page, not simply revert.
  • This article had been subject to quite a bit of vandalism. Sometimes you have to check a bit more carefully to :: see whether you are reverting to the right version. Can you see where you went wrong? Yeah, it says England but it should say Wales?.
Yes - the article lead says that it's in Wales, and the map shows that it's in Wales. If you check the history after doing a revert, it's usually pretty obvious that an article has been under attack - lots of recent edits, usually by IPs or new accounts - in that situation, take time to check that you have reverted to the right version.
  • This is not a good faith revert - it's downright libelous, to the point where I'd consider asking for revdel.
I understand.
Good - that kind of thing on a BLP is pretty serious.

Can you explain your thinking on each of the above please? Cheers GirthSummit (blether) 10:37, 1 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Unhelpful edit

You are unhelpful, hotshot. Wikipedia needs people who can think and reason with in-depth knowledge. Not some cancer of ignorance polishing false information reaped out of context pushed as mainstream by popularity votes. Its not just you, true, I am being improper here. But someone has to take the blame, so let me shit this hate towards you. 00:56, 13 March 2019 (UTC)00:56, 13 March 2019 (UTC)~~shoa

@2.204.1.247: Hello, thanks for getting in contact with me, I've checked your contribution again, and agree that I was wrong to revert, so apologies for that. As an aside, I'd draw your attention to our guidelines on civility, and especially to WP:NPA. Even if someone reverts you incorrectly, there's really no need to be abusive on another editor's talk page. AɾყαɳTԋҽAɾƚιƈʅҽAɾƚιʂƚ 16:00, 15 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Comment from User:Rod Sullivan edit

Hi Aryan, I came here to look into your Stiki issue, and noticed that User:Rod Sullivan left the following on your userpage - thought I'd put it here for you in case you missed it:

I just wanted to say thank you. For me, Life is too short to patrol Wikipedia, but I am frustrated that accurate additions and edits are reversed to preserve some sense of orthodox thought. Keep fighting toe good fight.

Rod - if you see this message, Aryan and I do our best to patrol Wikipedia to remove vandalism and other problematic edits. We aim never to remove anything that is well-sourced and neutrally presented - it's not about orthodox thought, it's about sticking to the parameters of what the project is attempting to do. If ever anyone removes edits that you have made in good faith and have provided citations for, don't hesitate to drop me a note on my talk page. Cheers, GirthSummit (blether) 16:50, 13 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hey Girth, this seems quite odd. There is no user with the name of "Rod Sullivan", and no record of "Rod Sullivan" ever posting something on my talk page via the history. So in that case, I'm just going to assume that this is one of the course tests. If the task was to figure this out, then I did so at first glance. Got to give it to you though, it looks quite believable from the outside. @Girth Summit: AɾყαɳTԋҽAɾƚιƈʅҽAɾƚιʂƚ 19:16, 13 March 2019 (UTC).Reply
That is odd because this diff says differently ! Regards.  Velella  Velella Talk   19:24, 13 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Velella: Oh yes indeed, thank you Velella for pointing this out. AɾყαɳTԋҽAɾƚιƈʅҽAɾƚιʂƚ 19:50, 13 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
Ha - this is a good idea, I should put something like this into the course! No,← as you've hopefully seen, this wasn't a test. I don't know Rod, and I don't know how he came across your page, but I didn't think it was appropriate for him to edit your user page rather than your talk page - that's why I moved it, I hope you don't mind. GirthSummit (blether) 20:13, 13 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
No problem, thanks for moving it here. AɾყαɳTԋҽAɾƚιƈʅҽAɾƚιʂƚ 08:49, 14 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Metra 215 Article Update edit

Hello Aryan, I updated this article. I live in Chicago and take Metra every week day. I was stuck on the train that 215 was pulling and had to evacuate at Morton Grove. I updated the Metra entry with a cited source. Please leave the update alone.

@Hurstpw: Hello, thanks for getting in touch. As I'm sure you're aware, information needs to be verifiable, and I reverted your original edit because you didn't provide a source. However, I can now see that you've added a source this time, thanks. AɾყαɳTԋҽAɾƚιƈʅҽAɾƚιʂƚ 16:05, 15 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

A recent revert in "ARP Spoofing" edit

Hello, you recently reverted my edit on Arp spoofing for being unconstructive however the ARP defence section is lacking a lot of information and I am not sure how the bits I added was not helpful, can you please review it? thanks Apool125 (talk) 14:37, 31 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Apool125: Thanks for getting in contact with me, the answer is simple. You added things like "Linux?" with a question mark. If you are unsure of what system it uses, then why to add anything at all. There were also multiple other edits like this. Please only add correct information and not information that you are unsure of. AɾყαɳTԋҽAɾƚιƈʅҽAɾƚιʂƚ 15:31, 31 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

@AɾყαɳTԋҽAɾƚιƈʅҽAɾƚιʂƚ: Hello! Thanks for responding, this is fair, my mentality at the time and partially still is that for a topic that is lacking information, uncertain information is better than no information at all and I was hoping with the "? sign" to attract specialists who would then confirm it but I understand how wikipedia should not be a place for false info, and therefore it maybe better not to include any at all

Still, there was some minor data I am at 100% sure of, would it be okey for me to re-add it?

It's a shame that the ARP spoofing page is so incomplete however and seems to have been so for a long time as it is a rather important topic that is missing critical info and someone knowledgeable is needed to add to it. cheers Apool125 (talk) 20:40, 1 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

No worries. Thanks for vandalism patroling! DMacks (talk) 14:04, 1 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
