Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 request for arbitration declined

This is a courtesy notice to inform you that a request for arbitration, which named you as a party, has been declined to be heard by the Committee. The arbitrators felt that they would rather see this issue brought to WP:AE for enforcement of the discretionary sanctions which are already authorised for the topic area. Please see the the Arbitrators' opinions for further potential suggestions on moving forward.

Bartolomeo da Bologna rating

Hi, you recently demoted Talk:Bartolomeo da Bologna to Start class from B class noting that it lacked the depth for a B class article. I'm curious about what material about the composer is deemed missing. He is a medieval composer about which next to nothing is known; nearly every known or asserted fact about his life or musical style has been included in the article. The article is already more extensive than the New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians article on him. With obscure medieval composers what is in WP is often everything that is known. Thanks! -- Michael Scott Cuthbert (talk) 22:43, 11 January 2015 (UTC)

You are right it is more than start. However for B or higher the referencing should be improved (more inline), and a the composer should be placed in somewhat more historical context. How did he relate to others in his time, did he follow common traditions or did he innovate and if so in what, who did he influence etc. Arnoutf (talk) 13:07, 18 January 2015 (UTC)

"Japan surrended to the US"

Regarding this edit of yours, Emperor Hirohito's surrender speech specifically states that Japan surrenders to China, as does the Japanese government's formal instrument of surrender. In other words, your claim is unsubstantiated original research that is factually incorrect. --benlisquareTCE 19:48, 10 April 2015 (UTC)

It does n't work like that. The claim was unsourced and removal of unsourced claims is always allowed and never original research. In addition, the document do not support your claim that Japan surrendered to China (which by omission of others claims it surrendered to China alone) At best it could be stated that it surrendered to a consortium of allies including China. So if anything the sentence as it was was original research, not its removal Arnoutf (talk) 09:06, 11 April 2015 (UTC)

Your edit summary

What in the world do you mean with your edit summary? By what standard is this a modern design? If you mean very generally "modern" as opposed to pre-modern, remember that the early modern period goes back to the end of the mediaeval era, while if you mean architecturally, remember that modernism eschews ornamental stuff like the tubing and has just the functional things like the supports for the rails. Nyttend (talk) 20:44, 27 June 2015 (UTC)

The tube is (according to some websites) a structural thing as it makes for a stiff construction allowing for the large suspensions needed at that location. In other words these websites claim the tube is first and foremost an engineering construction; which would make it modern (in the architectural definition). You may disagree, and you may be right, but then you would need to provide a reference naming it postmodern explicitly Arnoutf (talk) 21:06, 27 June 2015 (UTC)
Oh, it's structural? Okay. I misunderstood and thought it was purely ornamental. Nyttend (talk) 03:36, 28 June 2015 (UTC)
That is at least what they claim. Arnoutf (talk) 07:47, 28 June 2015 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for August 7

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Ulu Mosque (Utrecht), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Turkish. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

RonDom

I didn't find the discussion of the etymology of the word "RonDom" on the translation of their website that's cited there. Do they literally claim it's a portmanteau? (Nearly all the uses of "portmanteau" on Wikipedia are misuses, sadly.) 4pq1injbok (talk) 14:51, 23 September 2015 (UTC)

Probably not a true portmanteau, which is an overly formal word anyway. I edited the article to a more descriptive and less pretentious phrase. Arnoutf (talk) 17:23, 23 September 2015 (UTC)

WikiProject Military history coordinator election

Greetings from WikiProject Military history! As a member of the project, you are invited to take part in our annual project coordinator election. The way your edits are going

You're going to hit WP:3RR very quickly and I will go ahead and take you through that procedure, because your edit is entirely unhelpful and we don't sneer at people just to prove a point.

Just to be clear: you're absolutely right that it is more proper to refer to Holland as the Netherlands and to restrict "Holland" to a part of the Low Countries. You're even right that some people, such as yourself, can get incensed over that aspect of English. (And presumably Chinese, where the country is still universally known as "Helan".) But if people are trying to find {{WPNETHERLANDS}} and there is no actual WPHOLLAND, then we redirect and help them get to where they want to and ought to go. It makes no difference to the readers: the only thing that displays is the Netherlands material and links.

If you're still incensed at its very existence... well, don't keep fighting an edit war that'll get you punished. Go find a constituency that agrees with you to show some community support. I suggest the WP:RFC procedure. — LlywelynII 17:01, 8 October 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for this blatant violation of WP:AGF in this post (and about all your previous posts and edit summaries on this topic). May I remind you that at this stage you have reverted more of my edits than I have of yours; so your remark above comes pretty close to a threat, or at least bullying (who was accused by whom of having an attitude?). Also you may have noted that the Holland article does not redirect to the Netherlands article; so the existence wikiproject Holland templates that direct to anything BUT a Wikiproject Holland would be extremely odd. ArbCom elections are now open!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Zwarte Piet

Hallo,
