User:Chris Troutman - Dear Chris, thank you for the comments! Please bear with me, as this is my first article on Wikipedia, and I was bound to make a bunch of mistakes. First of all, I am not sure if you even will see this - as the gentleman from the help-chat advised this method of communication. I hope you will notice that I've updated the article (but again, maybe that is still not enough - if so, please let me know). Here is my logic: The subject is a musician, but working in Opera field - they don't really have singles, albums or charts as much, as popular musicians do these days. Hence, I am using a different strategy to confirm notability. One of the big items are international singing competitions. He got prize places (2-3) in quite a few internationally recognized competitions (Queen Sonja in Norway - awarded by Queen herself, Montserrat Caballe in spain (awarded by Montserrat herself), another one in Rome, Italy, Jensen foundation one in New York). I've mentioned them before, but now have included the references properly. Is that a good case on notability? Again, I've never done articles before, so hopefully, if there are any mistakes with references - with your help I am happy to fix them. Then there are artistic reviews in notable newspapers/periodics. Again, in Opera - it is quite often too much to expect more than couple sentenses even on established superstars. So I am not sure if those are interesting to the readers (and hence I am not quoting them) - but the editor in the help chat, has confirmed, that I should still include them into references, as a confirmation of a succesfull performing career on major world stages (mostly Covent Garden). So I've done that. Please let me know if these changes are in line of what you expected is needed? I, honestly, just thought that very dry (like this article - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vlada_Borovko ) content is proper an opera singer. But I am happy to update it, so it is done to the standard.

Be advised that your ping didn't work because the "t" in my username is not capitalized. Thankfully, I have this talk page on my watchlist. Yes, Wikipedia is meant for the pop audience. We are geared to artists that sell records. Opera is a niche interest not represented here. To make a claim for this baritone, you need to show us the subject is generally notable.. Sources that are promoting his performances don't count for notability although they might be ok for verifiability. What you need are several independent, reliable, sources. I don't see that present right now. Please note that performing in particular competitions might be a big deal to fans, but not us. Any prize which you think connotes notability has to be, itself, notable. Name-dropping as you've done is a cognitive bias. Just because some overpaid civil servant on a lifetime appointment was present to hand over a trophy means nothing on Wikipedia. The first mistake you made is all-too-common: you looked at other like subjects to figure out what's ok. While I totally understand why this happens, the practice leads to a race-to-the-bottom. Thanks for telling me about Vlada Borovko, too. I'm requesting that article get deleted, as well. Please check out Wikipedia:WikiProject Opera, as they are other editors with your interests and might be able to help you. Chris Troutman (talk) 00:18, 11 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Chris troutman (talk) Dear Chris - thank you for the fast response, and I appreciate your comments. I am definitely willing to learn, and make it work. When I save draft, do you see the updates I've done to the page? Or I need to "resubmit" so that the changes I've done are seen? Basically what I've done is adding quite a few references. Let me explain those, and maybe I'll also need to insert some of that info into the text? The competitions (the Queen part is rather a fact, nothing more) are well recognized internationally - finals were broadcast on Norwegian TV Channel 1, with quite a bit auditorium. Also the other competition is organised and was awarded by Montserrat Caballe, who is well known. But I hear you, when you talk about cognitive Bias. Hopefully though, these two above are not part of that situation. The other few are more narrow circle indeed (still mentioned them, please let me know if I should delete). Then I've also added an invitation and performance at Kennedy Center Honors, which is a cultural event of a year in US, Washington (with the President present, and CBS doing live coverage - I've included the reference to CBS on that). Then, there are apparently some recordings, as well as cinema broadcasts - which were broadcast over 2,500 cinemas worldwide on multiple occasions, in which he took part (also referenced those) (that is close to 1.5m audiences - as could be seen from this article - https://s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/static.roh.org.uk/about/annual-review/pdfs/annual_review_1415.pdf). Further there are references added to the performances with reviews in notable independent media (such as The Times, Independent, Opera Today, The Stage, etc - which are covering very broad spectrum of performances, including pop music). Finally there is a reference to BBC broadcast participation added (as a guest artist for Shakespeare Lives 2017 series, recordings and performances).

Would you think these make a bit better? What else could/should be added changed? Thank you again for taking time to go through this with me!ArdySan (talk) 00:54, 11 September 2017 (UTC) ArdySan, September 11, 2017Reply

I'm not "watching" the draft so I don't keep up on what you're doing to it. When you re-submit your draft, it goes back into the pile to wait for any passing reviewer. You can ask me to take another look at it but I'd prefer not to because most drafts deserve more than one set of eyes. Remember, since your subject is the singer, you want to favor media that discuss him. Yes, add references from BBC, CBS, and any other news source you can find. Please provide stuff better than mere mentions. I know what the Kennedy Center Honors are but that doesn't confer notability upon the performers, only the awardees. Just because Montserrat Caballe hosted a competition doesn't make the competition notable nor anyone that was in it. Again, you are looking to prove general notability. the size of the audience also doesn't matter. Please stick to what our criteria require; don't assert claims based on what you imagine notability is. Chris Troutman (talk) 01:06, 11 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Roger that, thank you Chris! ArdySan (talk) 01:09, 11 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

I've left a comment on your Articles for Creation submission, which can be viewed at Draft:Yuriy Yurchuk. Thanks! DGG ( talk ) 04:17, 20 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

@DGG: Oh sorry, my lack of experience with Wikipedia showed. Just noticed your message. Look do you think it is worth picking up this article again? I've started including a bunch of reviews of his performances, linking to original sources, then someone said that those are not applicable and he is not notable, so I gave up. But if you think it is... There are a lot of reviews which I can take from here - https://www.yuriyyurchuk.com/press and they all are linked to original sources. Please let me know what you think! ArdySan (talk) 13:24, 20 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

aking another look at it, I have some doubts that he is yet notable. What is needed is f/ for him to have sung a leading role in two or 3 major regular season productions of major opera companies, and for his work in those productions to have been substantially discussed in he published reviews of the productions in major newspapers & magazines that cover opera. . 2/ For him to similarly sing the lead roles in major recordings, that get reviewed with emphasis on his work. Everything in the article at present seems to miss out on one or another of these factors. If any do mach the criteria, emphasis it in detail. DGG ( talk ) 00:48, 2 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

@DGG: Right. Well, out of the well reviewed major roles in the important houses there are these two: [1] [2] Few more less reviewed at Zurich and Kiev. Few well reviewed smaller roles in London - [3] [4] [5]

As for the reviewed recordings, just this one - [6] So, I am not sure. At the time I was more interested in the story - switching to the opera late in life from being an accountant, winning major singing international prizes, etc. ArdySan (talk) 08:45, 2 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
