Bjørli

Hi! I noticed your change of Bjorli to Bjørli. But see these links to Bjorli skisenter, Bjorli - Lesja Reiseliv AS, Weather forecast for Bjorli etc. The place is clearly called Bjorli and not Bjørli. Punkmorten 11:24, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

Appreciate your contributions. Would ask you to check out Wikipedia:WikiProject Norway & more (specifically the naming conventions) before renaming articles. It states, among other things, that: "For administrative units and geographical entities, the official Norwegian name is used for the article, with redirects for English names when known. There is no reason to invent new English names, and it is undesirable as it introduces confusion." The confusion results from, for example, words like Bjorli and Bjørli, both of which may exist as legitimate places in Norway (in this case I don't believe that is the case).

I propose to revert your edit by moving the article back to Bjorli not only to correspond to the standard naming convention, but because I believe it is the correct name. I'll leave a link at Bjørli where your instinct would put it (even though Bjorli is a perfectly fine standard English rendition).

If your a Lesja local and I've stumbled into the netherworld of Norwegian dialectic variations, please let me know; I'm sure I'm willing to defer to local usage and expertise.

Just confirmed it is officially Bjorli. See the Lesja municipality website at this location for an official use. Going to correct the articles and links (must confess that I'm impressed with your thoroughness in making the changes given your new arrival to Wikipedia). Williamborg 15:25, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

I changed this page to "Bjørli" to reflect local spelling (which of course is immensely variable). There's no problem with changing it back, but the majority of residents (as far as I am aware) spell it with an "Ø", not an "O" Arctic hobo 12:57, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

Welcome. Obviously you're familiar with the area, if not a native. Which makes sense, since most changes go in the opposite direction (i.e., Anglicize the word). Pleased to see you here on Wikipedia.

Propose to stick with the Norwegian naming convention (esp. since it corresponds to the Lesja municipality web site). But will revise the article to show the alternative spelling as well.

Are you still living in the Lesja area? If so, any chance you have photos or other local material? This is a thin group of articles for a magnificant area.
