By 2018, according to Forbes, figures are pretax; fees for agents, managers and lawyers are not deducted, while earnings from female supermodels were based on income from cosmetics, fragrance and other contracts. They made the estimates based from interviews with numerous managers, agents, brand executives and industry experts.^[1]

To compile our list, we estimated earnings from licensing ventures, runway shows, commercial catalogs, spokesperson gigs and contracts from fragrance and fashion companies.^[2]

It's the only industry in the world where women make more than men... The most successful male models earn in the mid-six-figure range, maxing out around $500,000 a year [... Past male models who have come close to supermodel status, such as Mark Vanderloo and Marcus Schenkenberg in the early 1990s, were of the "Ken doll" ideal.]

Male models are not included in the ranking as they typically earn far less than female models—one of the only industries where the gender pay gap is reversed. The last time FORBES ranked male models, in 2013, Sean O’Pry topped the list with an estimated $1.5 million.^[3]

According PayScale as cites Forbes in 2013, female models had an average salary of $41,300, earning 148% more than male models.^[2]

Highest-paid models by year edit

Gisele Bündchen has both the most appearances on the top and the largest string.

Sean O'Pry became the most "successful" male model on Forbes earning lists

Kendall Jenner ousted Bündchen's string, leading the top since 2017.

Adriana Lima made at least sixteen appearances in the top five.

Kate Moss made at least ten appearances in the top five.

Heidi Klum made at least nine appearances in the top five.

David Gandy is one of the few male models to appear twice in a Forbes-earning list, including the last one dedicated to it (2013).
