Script check

Hello, been a while. There has been some vandalism with the Devanagari and Nastaliq scripts on My Name Is Khan, but I don't know the latter script to tell if it has been fixed. Do you mind checking it? I don't have any sources as to whether the official name of the film is मेरा नाम है खान or मेरा नाम खान है, but it's a relatively minor difference. The Urdu script was not there for a long time and I was not the one who removed it. Now you are adding it without proving that Hindi cinema is actually Hindustani cinema. You are not answering my questions and all the old discussions you cited died a premature death with no consensus. Now, if you want these scripts to be re-added, you must gain consensus and prove your point as two editors oppose to this addition on the talk page. You are not only edit warring and adding an unrelated script, you are also showing that you are unwilling to discuss as you see it as a fact that Hindi cinema is Urdu cinema. You have added, you have to discuss and PROVE. There is no consensus now. Start a new discussion if you want. I was not the one who originally removed it. Another user did it and was instantly reverted by you (how surprising). The fact is that there was never a clear consensus that Urdu scripts should be there. There was also a long discussion out of the Bollywood article in which most editors agreed that Urdu scripts should not appear in the lead. Even then, it's been over a year since December 2008. No one ever touched it until you came (how surprising). It clearly shows that you are trying to enforce your views on others. Re-adding the script after over a year is like renewing the dicussion. Now the burden of evidence is again on you. Please prove that Hindi cinema is Urdu cinema. Stop removing the fact that Hindi cinema is the official name of Bollywood, which is sourced. As for the sources you cite, they do not prove it. Saying that Urdu and Hindi are identical only goes against you because it only shows that you are mistaken, and it's got nothing to do with Hindi films. And do remember WP:3RR please. Just for the record, what actually matters at the end of the day is the fact that Hindi cinema is Hindi cinema and that's why it is officially called the Hindi-language film industry. Other than that, the discussion on Talk:Bollywood applies only to the Bollywood article. Sorry, you missed the point here. Scripts will be added when you gain consensus that they can be added, and they will not be included until a decision to readd them is taken. Now these scripts will not be included here. The Bollywood talk page clearly shows a consensus that such scripts should not be included. And you are not here to determine what will be until consensus is reached. You are yet to cite sources that say My Name is Khan specifically is an Urdu film. Also, you are the one who is closer to violating 3RR. If you revert again, I will report you on ANI. Pages should not be loaded with Urdu scripts just because you want to. Also note that this so-colled poll you have cited million times was declared as dead on this very talk page (see here). There was never consensus as this issue came back every while by different editors. It's been a year since it was broadly removed. Now you have to gain consensus to ADD them, not to keep them. • Read WP:RfC. This is not how an RfC should be started. The structure is incorrect. RfC must be started in a new section which must be completely neutral for everybody to make their decisions, not in a section in which you post a lengthy and incorrect message. You clearly are not familiar with the process of RfC, so please see instructions here

If I ever hurt your feelings in any of my messages, I sincerely apologise. I think you are a nice editor, but we simply disagree, and you too are crossing limits while ignoring my posts, writing the same things and talking about a consensus which never really existed. Taxman is at the end of the day a user just like you and me). I was shocked when I added certificates and you said, "no Wikipedia does not work like that", but when you added scripts which have almost no significant importance, it was OK. If you had asked me to merge sections I would never have had problems with that, but you did not. Now you added a bolded message which clearly shows me in a negative light. Also, I did not change articles to reflect my POV. In fact, it is you who excessively added scripts to articles to reflect your POV. Bollywood is the common name for Hindi cinema, and the lingua franca of Bollywood is Hindi - both you and I know that very well. So the addition of Urdu scripts should not have been made in the first place. The use of Urdu in Hindi films, its history and decline can be added, not the scripts. Canvassing and edit warring

My instincts did not disappoint me. You were indeed secretly canvassing users to participate in the discussion. And this will not be spared.

Secondly, I think you miss the point. This discussion is here to prove that Hindi films are actually Hindi-Urdu, not otherwise. The language of the industry is widely, commonly and officially known as Hindi. All these films' certificates and even scripts do not have Urdu. There was never a consensus on this issue, however you try to deny it. This discussion is done to add scripts, not remove them. If you want to edit war, be my guest, try me.

Orangi Town

Please stop reverting in Orangi Town. I have lived in Orangi Town so may be I know more about it. The Biharis are Muhajirs and so please stop distinguishing them. The Muhajir identity includes all Urdu speaking people that migrated to Pakistan. The nastaliq script is neither used in most Pakistani related articles in Wikipedia and nor in 200 articles relating to Karachi neighborhoods. Anupam, do not speak about a consensus that never was - you better prove your point. I proved that these discussions died a premature death. And it's been a long time ago and since most of the scripts were removed. This discussion is in order to prove that the industry is not only Hindi. Your claims contradict the majority of the sources, the common facts, the main official acknowledgement. Do not use the words of a user who has no right to take any such decisions whatsoever.

Tomorrow I'll start an ANI about your violation of WP:CANVASS. You clearly had contacted a lot of "right" people, including Zora, Raqib, Basawala and now this recent user, to have them supporting your POV. Whether the messages are written in a neutral tone or not, they are unacceptable.

You are very wrong:

• I have never removed scripts in disguide - in the case of CCCC I wrote cleanup because I made other edits as well. In other cases I clearly indicated my edit.
• Secondly, I was never ever "warned" by a beaurocrat. It was never a warning so do not speculate.
• Thirdly, you are there edit warring because you are the one who reverts me.
• You deviously and massively cavassed the "right" people knowing they would support your claims on the talk page. Zora is one of them, but you've been caught, so whatever there, do not make up stories. You do not know what I was discussing with Blofeld via e-mail. I never came to him for any such thing.
• There was never consensus and I cited sources proving why. Taxman has no authority to make decisions. Period.
• Not less important - the discussion on Talk:Bollywood does not have results. And as matter of fact, it does not matter. We cannot make such inclusive discussions for an industry which makes so many films per year. My lengthy posts were ignored. Anupam, I hold both Shahid and you in high regard for your contributions to wikipedia, and therefore am disheartened seeing recent acrimony and edit-warring between the two of you (I won't attempt apportioning the blame). It reminds me of the internecine "warfare" that took place among WPIndia editors a couple of years back, which finally reached arbcom and resulted in a few editors being banned and worse, many other editors giving up and retiring from wikipedia (ask User:YellowMonkey about it). It would be very sad if the current dispute, which really is over a very minor matter, went down that path. So I would urge both of you (and other involved editors) to take a step back, reconsider if the dispute is the best use of your time and effort, and if you think it's worth pursuing, approach WP:MEDCAB or WP:MEDCOM to get help resolving the dispute. It would be undesirable for both you as individual editors and the WPIndia project, if the dispute escalated much further and resulted in blocks or topic bans. Hello Anupam. I have read WP:AN3#User:Anupam reported by User:Shshshsh (Result: ) and the supporting arguments. It is clear to me that both you and User:Shshshsh have broken our rule against edit-warring, and you could both be blocked. To avoid this outcome, I suggest that you promise to stop adding or removing Urdu script from articles from now until 31 March. If an uninvolved admin closes the discussion about use of Urdu and announces a consensus, then this would settle the matter, and you could resume editing with regard to Urdu. Ghost: Biblical references & Judæo–Christian belief

I saw your contributions here. I am not sure if the full quote from I Samuel works. It is a bit long, and sort of throws off the flow of the article. Just an opinion, no big deal. But this seems like a subject where there is a lot more to be said. Maybe it deserves an article on its own, summarized in the Ghost article. Something like "Ghosts in Judæo–Christian belief". There seems to be quite a lot of debate about the correct position on the subject. Comments? Aymatth2 (talk) 13:53, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

I am not really qualified to expand the content in this area. If I tried, I would probably just get everybody upset. There are two main reasons for a separate article, neither very compelling. One is that the main Ghost article is highly active, full of controversy over whether this is a "pseudo-science" subject and frequently vandalized. It might be easier to expand and discuss content on Judæo–Christian beliefs (or perhaps it should be Abrahamic beliefs) in a quieter space with less risk of vandalism and with a discussion area focused on the subject - which may also be controversial, but for entirely different reasons. The other is that the main Ghost article should give a balanced overview, and ideally would just be a series of summaries of more specialized articles. I could see coverage of this aspect getting quite large, perhaps excessively so since ghost belief is not as significant in the monotheistic religions as it was with the old animist religions and is with Hinduism or Buddhism. So there could be advantages. But I don't think I am going to start it, just thought you might want to. Aymatth2 (talk) 13:12, 17 April 2010 (UTC)

Your undue Dilazak Page Edits

Dear Anupam By now I have seen all your efforts for Wikipedia. I am compelled to write few words in a direct way because I see one person with either one point agenda or a pseudo styled Master of all sciences. Please forgive me but your edits without due knowledge and without reading my discussion page are quite unnecessary. We in Asia take our ancestry from Father side and not from Mother side. A tribe in our world is not by speaking a particular language but by the genes one carries. You though Indian don't seem to know this little fact. Moreover, You seem inclined to prove Afghans as Hindic people. Sorry but you are you and We are We. Also you time and again revert my page with your edits" The Dilazak are found in Afghanistan and Pakistan" whereas there is hardly any Dilazak in Afghanistan, if you know their history. I gave you reference to Ishhat Khan's website in Utterperdesh who is Dilazak and there are many many more in India. Please do not edit unless you discuss first. I was actually reading The Gilgit Game, a really excellent book on 19th century exploration of the Pamirs by John Keay, and naturally much of the research at that time was on the relatively unknown Dards and Dardic languages, especially by the likes of G.W. Leitner. I was curious to see if we had some relevant article coverage, and was pleasantly surprised to see we did. It's quite a region, now if it only becomes safe enough to visit... WikiProject India Newsletter Volume V, Issue no. 1 - (June 2010)

Project News WP:IND Newsletter is back! It's been nearly a year since the last edition, but we hope to bring out issues on a more regular basis now. The India Wikiproject was set up to increasing coverage of India-related topics on Wikipedia, and over the past few months the focus has been on improving article quality. A number of the project's featured articles underwent featured article reviews over the past year. Of these, Darjeeling and Flag of India survived the review process, while the rest were demoted. During the same period, Gangtok, Harbhajan Singh, Darjeeling and Mysore were featured on the main page respectively on August 20, September 17, November 6 and December 29, 2009. Meanwhile, articles on topics as diverse as Political history of Mysore and Coorg (1565–1760), Marwari horse and Iravan were promoted as featured articles, and respectively appeared on the main page on March 25, May 17 and May 28, 2010. Consequently, the number of FA-class articles under the project's scope dropped from 67 in August 2009 to 63 in June 2010. The number of good articles, however, saw a more than 40% increase, from 91 to 130 during the same period, while the number of featured lists saw a 33% increase from 12 to 16. Due to the recent policy changes regarding unreferenced Biographies of Living People (BLPs), an effort was started in January 2010 to source all unreferenced BLPs coming under Wikiproject India. 1200 such articles were identified initially and more were added to the list later. Due to the sourcing effort, the number of Indian unreferenced BLPs is down to 565 currently. During February-April 2010, There was a large scale disruption of Kerala related articles by a Thrissur based IP vandal. Editing from a dynamic IP BSNL connection, the vandal changed dates of birth, death and ages of a number of Malayalam and Tamil film actors. Later he added a few international biographies to his list. He also marked some living people like Arvind Swamy as dead. A month long range block was imposed on his IP range two times and each time he came back to vandalise dates once the block expired. Currently the range has been blocked for three months till September 11, 2010. What's New? Three members of the project, Abecedare, Tinu Cherian and SpacemanSpiff received their sysop mops in October-December 2009. Congratulations! This picture, shot in India, won the Commons:Picture of the Year contest 2009. Translations of the description in Indian languages are solicited. Wikipedians in Bangalore have been organising periodic meetups over the past year, in collaboration with the Centre for Internet and Society. The next meetup is scheduled for July 18, 2010. Indian and other Wikipedians from all Wikipedias in various languages are welcome to attend.

Current proposals and discussions Please add Wikipedia talk:Noticeboard for India-related topics to your watchlist in order to stay updated with the latest discussions regarding various aspects of the project. A discussion is underway here to reach a consensus regarding the use of Indian number names (lakh, crore etc.) in Wikipedia articles. Please participate and add your comments. Join the effort to source and save unreferenced Indian BLPs. Some unintended vandalism is going on at the Assamese Wikipedia by the sole active editor. This is a request for Assamese-conversant Wikipedians to help resolve the issue. A discussion is in progress here in order to determine whether non-Western (including Indian) forms of classical music should be referred to by the nomenclature of art music instead of classical music. Please participate and add your comments. Watchlist the Articles for Deletions page for India related discussions. Opinions from more Indian Wikipedians are required in many of the discussions. The World Classical Tamil Conference 2010 is at present underway in Coimbatore, and the Tamil Wikipedia is actively involved at the event. A detailed report will follow in the next issue. Thathaal

Hi Anupam, I have been told to contact someone at Wikipedia pakistan after writing to one of the admins on Wikipedia English. This is what are my concern about an article, I am merely pasting what I had written on the English section, I would need your feedback.

"Dear sir, I have spent quite some time collecting information about Thathaals,. I did not find any information other than wikipedia article pasted on certain sites. I also belong to the same clan and very much occupied to know about my origin. Here is my opinion about the article.

This article is nothing but a crap, there are certain people who are busy "creating history" rather than reflecting history. The real purpose of this article is shown by the this sentence (paragraph " modern history, last sentence)" However, now, at present there is no difference between other Rajput Jat tribes and the great Thathaals.

People behind this article are too much occupied to establish "Thathaal" as Jatt clan,rather than Rajput. the truth is that caste is a herditary thing, one can not change it, you are born in one caste, and you can't change that "fact". The article had started as Thothaal which was correct, but later the title of the article has been changed. second thing about Thothal is that they are not Jat but rajput, this was correctly mentioned by some earlier editor in the "View history".

The article start with the claim that "They are said to be descendants of legendary Raja Karan Singh of the Mahabharata[2]." The truth is that Karan Singh (Karna) is never mentioned as Karan Singh in the Whole book Mahabharata. He is just mentioned karna and not having any surname, like all other charachters in the book. The word Singh( means "lion") was introduced by Rajput about one thousand year after the Mahabharata was written.

Second claim: Thathaals claim their kinship with a Suryavanshi Rajput Raja Karan Singh through his son Raja Thathoo, In Mahabharata we learn that Karna had nine sons (One does not need to read whole Mahabharata, this could be checked in wiki article about Karna], but none of his son had name "Thathoo".

"Some of the persons from Thathaal tribe converted to Islam during period of Mehmood of Ghazna[4]". there is no proof for this. In fact this could be checked in any Indian history book, Mehmood never stayed in India, he just invaded and plundered India several times and left back to Ghazni, Afghanistan.

The village "Mohmud Chak " is not the right name, the real name is "Mehmad Chak" and nothing to do with "Essa Khan Mohmand". There are many people from " Mehmad chak" living in Norway. In fact, none of the "reference" could be checked to find that if the reference support the claim. there are only six "working" which could be checked ( five of those are sorted by me and those are about villages and one about adil khan)

THE TRUTH ABOUT THATHAAL: The true word is "Thothal" and not "Thathaal", this I learend when in 2000 I wanted to sell some property in my home country, I went to the court to sign documents, I found that my caste was written "Thothal" and not "Thathal", I asked them to "correct" it, but I was told, "you people may like to call yourself whatever you like but in the official papers you are registered as Thothal", second thing I learned that we are Rajputs and not Jatts. When I come back to Norway, I contacted the oldest man from " Thothal( Thathal)" clan. I was told "there was a king of Kashmir ( the kingdom of karna is not Kashmir but Anga (present day Bhagalpur ), whose name was Karan singh, the real time of Karan Singh is unknown. Karan singh had a son whose name was " Thotho" add NOT "Thathoo" as mentioned in the article. The descendants of Thotho were called Ththo-Al. Al means "descendant". Thotho-al means " the descendant of Thotho. With the passage of time the word Thotho-al became Thothal."

Many people called themselve Thathal because they either don´t know the real word or they just speak carelessly. The word which is registerd in the official documents like at muncipal committees is Thothal and NOT Thathal. As far it goes for the villages, I did not find village with the name thathaal, but I found a village with the name" Thothal". I have problem accepting the later history of Thothals, because there is no source which could be checked. I am fairly well informed when it comes to my background , but i never learned these stories which are mentioned in the article. There is a book which have been mentioned as a source which is " A Glossary of the Tribe and casts of the Punjab and North-West Frontier Provinces by E.D. Maclagan and H.A. You are very very wrong. The discussion concerned SCRIPTS, not languages

First, you reverted me describing my edits as vandalism and it is actually an act of vandalism from your side. Second, all the discussions, all the arguments and even the final administrative decision was in regards to scripts and only SCRIPTS. As for the language of the films, it is Hindi and it is a fact which is not questionable by any means. Go see the film's official certificate. If you can prove that PKGspecifically is an Urdu movie, then go ahead, make my day. I did NOT remove the Urdu script itself, and no admin would be able to prohibit others from modifying language fields, because it's the most factual thing out there. If I must, I'll take it to WP:FILM and even turn to higher authorities on Wikipedia. Also, do not make an important figure of yourself by threatening me like this, you don't scare me, friend, so feel free to do whatever you want, but beware of edit wars because this time it will not turn out to be so good for you. And don't think your canvassing has been forgotten, it will be noted and reported again (as I found you have been doing it many a time down history). You contacted secretly people who share the same point of view as yours, and that's what created a true mess despite the fact that several editors, who were NOT canvassed, opposed to having scripts. The first one was a mistake and the admin unblocked me twice.If you wanna know what my reputation and accomplishments are, have a look at my user page. Still, it is none of your business so you can go and do what you are best at, adding scripts and cavassing people. I even see old warnings of canvassing here on your very talk page. As I said, do try to read and understand the meaning of a bureaucrat before throwing Taxman's name into every discussion. I received a mail from an admin who totally agreed with what I say now, so people know you are not as innocent as you try to look. Secondly Taxman is not an uninvolved party in the issue. You were just citing the same previous old discussions stating "consensus!", while I proved why there was NO consensus, analysing every link of yours. As for my report about you, by saying that it was unconvincing you are putting words into the mouth of the closing admin, and this will be reported one day. At the end of it you were warned and the result spoke to both you and me. At least I did everything with sheer honesty, and did not resort to secret e-mail messages to solve my problem and enforce my POV.

As for my edit, it is perfectly fine. All our discussions and the last decision by EdJohnston were about SCRIPTS. The language of the film is Hindi, not Urdu, and that's a fact that does not even need discussion, unless you could start a discussion for every specific film and prove its language is Urdu (in this case, it's Piya Ka Ghar, and if you see its certificate, it says HINDI). You can go and report this and do whatever you want, I did nothing wrong as I did NOT remove the Urdu script, trust me, I'll know what to say and whom to call. EOD. I'm removing a lot of similar references; many other editors have also been deceived by these sources. Another publisher that reuses Wikipedia articles is Alphascript Publishing. Khalistan movement

Hi Anupam, I saw your addition to the Khalistan movement page with the gurmukhi/devnagari version of the term "Tehrik-e-Khalistan". I think you had good intentions but I reverted them because I've never seen the movement referred to as such, and it sounds a bit too Islamic (like Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan, for instance. it might bring certain connotations. it seems more like a Persian/Urdu phrase than anything). If you can find a more popular neutral Punjabi term for it used by those in the movement or any sort of news media, I'd suggest that. (perhaps Tehrik-e-Khalistan can be seen as neutral, but there ought to be more-often-used names than that.)

Anupam, you must step back a bit from your attempt to dominate the Robbie Mannheim page. We all agree your work has been much, but you now need to start listening to the concensus we have been reaching over there.

You have no right to stick in just anything you see fit! YOU must also consult with us about what goes in and how to restructure the article. It isn't your sole possession, it matters to us as well.

Your weakness is you want to put everything you read about this case into the article. That is not necessary for it to be appropriately encyclopedic.

You want to push the Christian aspect too far. Yes it matters to the case, but the line you insist on reverting is offensive to Spiritualists and is unnecessary, like so much of what you want done over there.

You are not clarifying the unverified claims and stories in that article as separate from the little fact that exists. The FACT is the Church acknowledges an exorcism, says it was a teen boy around 1949, Father Halloran has added some recollections and that is ALL. Everything else is unverified anecdotal reporting...the OPPOSITE of established fact.

You need to understand this work is not yours alone just because you are a reviewer. You have to cooperate like any other editor and work better. Dear Anupam, I understand what you're saying, and I don't at all mean to do it just to prove a point. I was honest about what I did, and I did not remove a single script since the standhill started. I even tried to reconsider my stand and I'm still trying to think whether it really is such a big deal (the whole issue we've been discussing for months). I'll need time to tell you that. However, I disagree with the inclusion of these categories because I find them misleading. If anything, a script is somewhat more understandable in my view as of now (I'll later explain myself further), but a category implies that the movie is as much in Urdu as it is in Hindi, which is not right, and even if the category says "partially", it's not enough, because Urdu is more "used" in Hindi movies that it "is" the language of the movies.

A user named Bollyjeff has just replied to you on my very talkpage, citing English as an example, it is similarly used to a large extent in Hindi movies yet it is not the language of the movies, and no category for it would be accepted, unless a movie like Black, My Name is Khan etc., is concerned (just like the examples of Umrao Jaan and Mughal-E-Azam in case of Urdu). Anupam, you certainly have your facts incorrect here. Katrina Kaif is most certainly not a muslim, there is no evidence of this by her verbally or by action. In fact, all signs point to the hypothesis that she is spiritual; she vists hindu places for worship (ganesh chaturji) and she's also visited a few muslim destinations. She has no relation with nasataleeq as her upbringing is homogeneously british and american. I see you are already engaged in a few edit wars, please be rational and add information with proofs. English WikiProject News After a missed issue, the WP:IND newsletter is back on track to being a regular bimonthly feature. The Indian WikiProject has seen plenty of online and off-line action, both in English as well as other Indian languages, and we now have a bigger, better format that intends to feature content and news from the English as well as other Indian language Wikipedias. Reaching out to Indians has been the theme of the Indian Wikiproject over the past couple of months, aiming to involve a greater number of Indians in editing both the English and Indian language Wikipedias. To this end, efforts to set up the Indian chapter of Wikimedia have moved into their final stages, and registration of the society is currently pending. An effort is underway to push for "WikiMarathons" at meetups, where attendees will be encouraged to edit the English and/or Indian language Wikipedias. This is intended to popularise Wikipedia editing among the general public. In addition, a bot to post DYK's from the Indian Wikiproject to Twitter was created and launched by User:Logicwiki. What's New? Regrettably, the number of Featured Articles has dropped from 63 in June to 58 at the end of October 2010. Several FAs came up for review and were delisted, while Fundamental Rights, Directive Principles and Fundamental Duties of India was saved. Meanwhile, Chalukya Dynasty appeared on the main page on July 9, 2010. Hearteningly, the number of Good Articles increased from 130 to 136 during the same period, while the number of Featured Lists remained constant at 16. The source code for the Article Alert Bot is now available and the bot itself is expected to be up and running very shortly. This means that article alerts for the Indian Wikiproject will again be available, enabling editors to easily keep track of developments in respect of reviews, nominations, deletions etc. The date change vandal mentioned briefly in the previous issue made a reappearance when the range block on his IP range expired in September. News from Indian-language Wikipedias The Bengali Wikisource, which contains the literary works of many prominent writers of Bengali language including Rabindranath Tagore, has crossed the 5,000 pages milestone. According to List of Wikisource page, Bengali Wikisource is now at rank 21 among 56 Wikisource based on number of content pages. The Tamil Wikipedia stall at the World Classical Tamil Conference 2010 in Coimbatore in June 2010. The uploading of Tamil technical words donated by Tamil Virtual University to the Tamil Wiktionary was completed in October. The words were donated by the Government of Tamil Nadu due to lobbying efforts by Tamil Wikipedians during the runup to the World Classical Tamil Conference 2010 (WCTC) in June. Nearly 70,000 words were uploaded increasing the word count in Tamil Wiktionary from 1,20,000+ to 1,90,000+. This has brought Tamil to the 10th place (from 17) in the list of largest wiktionaries and has earned it a place in the Wiktionary front page logo. In addition, Tamil Wikipedians set up a stall at the WCTC and introduced Tamil Wiki projects to people from all walks of life. Jimmy Wales introduces the Malayalam Wikipedia CD of 500 selected articles during his key note address at Wikimania 2010 at Gdansk. The Hindi Wikipedia and its sister wiki projects migrated to the new vector interface on September 1, 2010. In addition, Hindi is the first (and so far the only) Indian language to be incorporated into the WikiBhasha translation and contribution toolkit developed by Microsoft Research. Malayalam wikimedian Santhosh Thottingal has developed a software (Wiki2CD) for the creation of the Malayalam Wikipedia CD, which was launched in 2010. In addition, Santosh, along with fellow Malayalam wikimedian Shiju Alex coordinated a panel discussion at Wikimania 2010 on creation of offline Wiki content.

Community news The first meetup in Delhi on 22 September 2010. Mumbai and Delhi held their first meetups in September, where Wikimedia Board members Barry Newstead and Bishakha Datta met up with Wikipedians and other interested members of the public in these cities. A month later, Hyderabad also held its first meetup. language scripts

You said in a recent edit to Kal Ho Na Ho that it was current policy to add Urdu. Can you point me to this policy on WP? You also said to see the IMBd article. Well, it also says Gujarati and Punjabi there; and of course we know its in English as well. Why not add them all? I thought we talked about this a while back and decided just to use the dominant language used in the film, so as not to confuse the English readers of the English Wikipedia. Do you realize that those squiggly characters are meaningless to most English speakers? So why?!? You also make many additions to people's articles, for example adding Kashmiri stuff recently. First you do not add a source that the people are indeed Kashmiri, so those changes should all be reverted. Secondly as I said before, it does not really add any value to the English site. Well, I agree with what this guy said "see little point in adding Urdu script to every article abouta Hindi film. I feel your time would be better spent with something which will actually help english readers. Adding Urdu to every Hindi film article unless it is of MAJOR importance to the film is just spamming. This is ENGLISH wikipedia."

After reading some of that stuff though, it seems there is no winning an argument with you. Its funny how I could not even find a article for Kal Ho Naa Ho on the Hindi or Persian Wikipedia (is there an Urdu one?), yet you feel the need to muck up the English Wikipedia with all this foreign language stuff. I especially like how every actor gets all these scripts added to their name even if they don't speak the language. For example, someone insists on adding Bengali to Lisa Ray, who is Canadian and the source said she speaks some Polish. No Polish script though, just Bengali. Wonder why? How do English speakers even know that what they and you are adding is correct? Is there a Bengali word for 'Lisa'? When I watch Bollywood films and see the film credits, the actors names are always in English are they not? Ah well, it is clear why there will never be top quality in middle-eastern Wikipedia articles, or an end to war in this world until the human race is extinct. That was my point all the time - what's the point of adding Urdu to Hindi films? Will we add Hindi scripts to Pakistani films as well? Anyway, I'm starting to feel sad for this state and at points I really think it's best to just remove all scripts and be friends again. Everybody knows that as of now there isn't any consensus because the last long discussion just killed everything that there was before and there was a strange "zero results" feel to it, except that everyone started getting personal and that's the saddest part, because instead of improving articles, we keep fighting over some petty scripts. Anupam, you are close to violating the WP:3RR rule. Please have the courtesy of respecting WP:BRD while the discussion is on going. You made a bold move, and you were reverted, now you should discuss and not edit war your version back into the entry. The Barna study is about a broader irreligious category and not "atheism" specifically. Besides this your sources fail the test when it comes to reporting the findings of a scientific survey. You need academic sources to interpret the findings, and academic publishing processes to validate these interpretations. Neither exists. I've explained more fully on the talk page. M. F. Husain in Marathi

Hi Anupam, I noticed that you amalgamated Marathi and Hindi spellings of the name of M. F. Hussain in the intro line. His name is spellied in the native language i.e. Marathi as मकबूल फिदा हुसेन and not as मक़बूल फ़िदा हुसैन, as is the case in Hindi. Spellings in Marathi and Hindi differ for many names and words, even though they share the same Devanagari script.

Anyways, I am reinstating the correct Marathi spelling in the article.

Completely new abortion proposal and mediation

In light of the seemingly endless disputes over their respective titles, a neutral mediator has crafted a proposal to rename the two major abortion articles (pro-life/anti-abortion movement, and pro-choice/abortion rights movement) to completely new names. The idea, which is located here, is currently open for opinions. As you have been a contributor in the past to at least one of the articles, your thoughts on the matter would be appreciated.

The hope is that, if a consensus can be reached on the article titles, the energy that has been spent debating the titles of the articles here and here can be better spent giving both articles some much needed improvement to their content. Please take some time to read the proposal and weigh in on the matter. Even if your opinion is simple indifference, that opinion would be valuable to have posted.

Checking Additions to Conditional Security and Apostasy in Christianity articles

Greetings Anupam,

You recently added the United Methodist Church in the above two articles, but I am unable to find the book "Fall from Grace" from Rev. Chamberlain that you quote in the footnote. The quote is fine, but people need to be able to verify the quote. I cannot find the book (or maybe it is a small booklet) anywhere. There is no date and page number that goes with the quote. Could you please help me out here? This resource should be accessible to others in one way or another, or we should probably use a more recognized resource for the UMC on this issue. In Methodist doctrine: the essentials by Ted Campbell, Abingdon Press, 1999, Campbell writes: "In affirming the possibility of losing faith and justification, Methodists reject the doctrine of “eternal security” taught in some churches (especially Reformed churches, and many Baptist churches). (page 60) This is the best quote from a reliable source that I have found. I am going to check out the book Major United Methodist Beliefs which has a section "Once in Grace, Always in Grace?", that appears to address this issue. Asking for help on assumed vandalism

I refer to your "The Tireless Contributor Barnstar" "for your Tireless work in reverting vandalism". In short, my problem is like this: At the web page for Andrew McIntosh (professor) there is a link to the page Violation of the second law of thermodynamics where however his argument related to this topic is embellished out of all recognition and replaced what I call a strawman. I tried to add what I believe is his real standpoint sourced from his papers: [[3]] but it is constantly being erased and when I try to engage my opponents in discussion, they always make just empty claims w/o providing any evidence for they position and when I challenge them with my Qs, they always fail to answer and at the end I'm subject of warnings of being blocked while even NPOV label is not allowed to be raised -only one-sided opinion can be present on the main page. OMG you reverted my edit. Oh the pain of it all. I shall never recovery from the tyranny of 3RR...only joking of course...so, it seems then that there is still a problem regarding this revert because although the cited uses are as you point out not critics, they also are simply discussing A. (noun) and using a formulation of M+A(Adj+Noun) but now we have a compound Proper Noun being given a life of its own with these very citations used rather deceptively. I see what's going on with this section and the ext link makes more sense now that I have delved into the section. The section is close to a line of, maybe on the OR or SYNTH side in that it links Science policy with Atheism enforcement but that is what actually did go on in USSR. Thus, the topics are quite different and any normal set up would be ! OT. But things were so bizarre at that point in history - they are two different topics, but the craziness of the Stalin era of dialectical materialism is precisely this interfusion of science and religion which, in the west, are diff. A tip of the hat to Anupam or actually the whole editorial board on the article. Article ownership is becoming a problem

Anupam, I would like to officially warn you about the fact that you are crossing the line at Militant atheism when you police the entry in the manner you have been doing. WP:OWN is a policy, and you are violating it. Please consider this an opportunity to reflect on what you are doing and consider a more collegial and collaborative approach to editing the entry. If other editors think that a tag is necessary, and put it up in good faith then you need to discuss the matter with them on the talk page and not immediately remove the tag because you think you're right. Talk page edits

You shouldn't edit the top of discussions, you should just add comments to below what ever you are replying to. It's a big wiki no-no. You also should try not to edit your previous edits unless you use strikes and whatnot to show how it was before your edit. Basically, no one should ever have to go to the history page to see exactly how a discussion unfolded, it should be obvious. If you add something to the top, a reader now has to look through the history to see what the question was at the time of a particular reply. Regarding User_talk:Peregrine_Fisher#Re:Talk_page_edits. No problem. After years I still haven't got automatic archiving like I wish I had. Also, it's best to usually reply on one's own talk page, instead of replying on the other person's. That way later on it's easy to see exactly what the conversation was without having to look at two pages and compare timestamps.

Anupam I'd like to know about this Catholicism/Methodism thing. Why is it that on your user page you say emphatically that you are a Methodist but in two separate threads recently you claimed to be Catholic? What worries me here isn't that you are one or the other. Indeed I don't care what your actual religious affiliation is. What worries me is the possible deception going on here. The only outrageous thing that I see is your comment Lionel. Compromised account? Other editors have recently had issues with me? Give me a break. There is nothing outrageous about engaging Anupam on comments he has himself made. User:Anupam has the United Methodist banner on it, yet twice in trying argue against accusations of canvassing he claims to be Catholic - see [7], [8]. He has argued that User:StAnselm is not likeminded since he is a Calvinist and Anupam is a Catholic. I think the fact that he claims to be a Methodist is completely relevant, since Methodists are Protestants (like Calvinists) and not Catholics. What I find troubling about it, is not whether or not he's actually Protestant, but again, it is the use of deception here. I'd like to hear an explanation. Do you agree with misrepresenting your religious background and contradicting yourself in order to win arguments on Wikipedia? The Right Stuff caught up with Dank, the recently elected Lead Coordinator of WikiProject Military History. MILHIST is considered by many to be one of the most successful projects in the English Wikipedia.

Q: Tell us a little about yourself.
A: I'm Dan, a Wikipedian since 2007, from North Carolina. I started out with an interest in history, robotics, style guidelines, and copyediting. These days, I'm the lead coordinator for the Military History Project and a reviewer of Featured Article Candidates. I've been an administrator and maintained WP:Update, a summary of policy changes, since 2008.

Q: What is your experience with WikiProjects?
A: I guess I'm most familiar with WP:MILHIST and WP:SHIPS, and I'm trying to get up to speed at WP:AVIATION. I've probably talked with members of most of the wikiprojects at one time or another.

Q: What makes a WikiProject successful?
A: A lot of occasional contributors who think of the project as fun rather than work, a fair number of people willing to write or review articles, a small core of like-minded people who are dedicated to building and maintaining the project, and access to at least a few people who are familiar with reviewing standards and with Wikipedia policies and guidelines.

Q: Do you have any tips for increasing membership?
A: Aim for a consistent, helpful and professional image. Let people know what the project is doing and what they could be doing, but don't push.

If you've got a core group interested in building a wikiproject, it helps if they do more listening than talking at first ... find out what people are trying to do, and offer them help with whatever it is. Some wikiprojects build membership by helping people get articles through the review processes.

Abortion Case Plods Along

The arbitration request submitted by Steven Zhang moved into its second month. The case, which evaluates user conduct, arose from contentious discussions regarding the naming of the Pro-life and Pro-choice articles, and a related issue pertaining to the inclusion of "death" in the lede of Abortion. A number of members are involved. On the Evidence page ArtifexMahem posted a table indicating that DMSBel made the most edits to the Abortion article. DMSBel has announced their semi-retirement. Fact finding regarding individual editor behavior has begun in earnest on theWorkshop page.

Last month it was decided that due to the success of the new Dispute Resolution Noticeboard the Content Noticeboard would be shut down. Wikiquette Assistance will remain active. The DRN is primarily intended to resolve content disputes.

I had added some sourced text saying that her original name was Katrina Turquotte, but I don't know how that happened. Were her parents divorced when she was born? WikiProject Conservatism faces the ultimate test

On October 7, WikiProject Conservatism was nominated for deletion by member Binksternet. He based his rationale on what he described as an undefinable scope, stating that the project is "at its root undesirable". Of the 40 participants in the discussion, some agreed that the scope was problematic; however, they felt it did not justify deletion of the project. A number of participants suggested moving the project to "WikiProject American conservatism". The overwhelming sentiment was expressed by Guerillero who wrote: "A project is a group of people. This particular group does great work in their topic area[,] why prevent them from doing this[?]" In the end there was negligible opposition to the project and the result of the discussion was "Keep". The proceedings of the deletion discussion were picked up by The Signpost, calling the unfolding drama "the first MfD of its kind". The Signpost observed that attempting to delete an active project was unprecedented. The story itself became a source of controversy which played out at the Discuss This Story section, and also at the author's talk page.

Two days after the project was nominated, the Conservatism Portal was also nominated for deletion as "too US-biased". There was no support for deletion amongst the 10 participants, with one suggestion to rename the portal.

In other news, a new portal focusing on conservatism has been created at WikiSource. Wikisource is an online library of free content publications with 254,051 accessible texts. One highlight of the portal's content is Reflections on the Revolution in France by Edmund Burke.

October saw a 6.4% increase in new members, bringing the total membership to 58. Seven of the eight new members joined after October 12; the deletion discussions may have played a role in the membership spike. Mwhite148 is a member of the UK Conservative Party. Stating that he is not a conservative, Kleinzach noted his "lifetime interest in British, European and international politics." Let's all make an effort to welcome the new members with an outpouring of Wikilove.

Timeline of conservatism, a Top-importance list, was nominated for deletion on October 3. The nominator stated that since conservatism in an "ambiguous concept", the timeline suffers from original research. There were a number of "Delete", as well as "Keep" votes. The closing administrator reasoned that consensus dictated that the list be renamed. The current title is Timeline of modern American conservatism.

Please tell me how the stuff I removed from Aisha bint Abu Bakr was not a POV charged quite sectarian rant at least in form. I cannot judge the content but surely the form was not encylopedic? Or is Wikipedia in the business of calling people of a certain sectarian persuasion "scum"?? Wikipedia's Newest Featured Portal: Conservatism

On January 21, The Conservatism Portal was promoted to Featured Portal (FP) due largely to the contributions of Lionelt. This is the first Featured content produced by WikiProject Conservatism. The road to Featured class was rocky. An earlier nomination for FP failed, and in October the portal was "Kept" after being nominated for deletion.

Member Eisfbnore significantly contributed to the successful Good Article nomination of Norwegian journalist and newspaper editor Nils Vogt in December. Eisfbnore also created the article. In January another Project article was promoted to Featured Article. Luís Alves de Lima e Silva, Duke of Caxias, a president of Brazil, attained Featured class with significant effort by Lecen. The Article Incubator saw its first graduation in November. A collaboration spearheaded by Mzk1 and Trackerseal successfully developed Star Parker to pass the notability guideline.

Project Scope Debated

Another discussion addressing the project scope began in December. Nine alternatives were presented in the contentious, sometimes heated discussion. Support was divided between keeping the exitsing scope, or adopting a scope with more specificity. Some opponents of the specific scope were concerned that it was too limiting and would adversely affect project size. About twenty editors participated in the discussion.

Inclusion of the article Ku Klux Klan (KKK) was debated. Supporters for inclusion cited sources describing the KKK as "conservative." The article was excluded with more than 10 editors participating.

Project membership continues to grow. There are currently 73 members. Member Goldblooded (pictured) volunteers for the UK Conservative Party and JohnChrysostom is a Christian Democrat. North8000 is interested in libertarianism. We won't tell WikiProject Libertarianism he's slumming. Let's stop by their talkpages and share some Wikilove.

Why is Everyone Talking About Rick Santorum?

Articles about the GOP presidential candidate and staunch traditional marriage supporter have seen an explosion of discussion. On January 8 an RFC was opened (here) to determine if Dan Savage's website link should be included in Campaign for "santorum" neologism. The next day the Rick Santorum article itself was the subject of an RFC (here) to determine if including the Savage neologism was a violation of the BLP policy. Soon after a third was opened (here) at Santorum controversy regarding homosexuality. This RFC proposes merging the neologism article into the controversy article.

The Abortion case closed in November after 15 weeks of contentious arbitration. The remedies include semi-protection of all abortion articles (numbering 1,500), sanctions for some editors including members of this Project, and a provision for a discussion to determine the names of what are colloquially known as the pro-life and pro-choice articles. The Committee endorsed the "1 revert rule" for abortion articles.

Please explain exactly what is "contentious" about removing a poorly sourced article that contains three maintenance tags—one for cleanup, another for unsourced content, and another for original research—from a highly visible featured article. Do you think we should link to poorly sourced articles containing original research? For your information, there is no RFC in progress, so why should I wait until a nonexistent RFC concludes to remove material that explicitly violates our most important policies? Dear User:Viriditas, as you know, one of the proposals being discussed on the talk page involves moving the content from the section in question to the article, Religious interpretations of the Big Bang theory. Removing the link from the main article, when others have proposed keeping that link in the "See also" section, or in its current position was inappropriate. Moreover, I looked at the article and saw that it did have references in every section. In addition, nominating the article for deletion despite the fact that the topic is a very notable one (as delineated by the plethora of sources discussing it) was also unwarranted. Please kindly wait for the discussion at the talk page to conclude before making any contentious changes to the article. Thank you for your understanding in this matter. You did not answer my question, and the article most certainly does not have references in every section, so I will need to ask you to look at the article again. You will notice right away that the "Buddhist View" section is entirely unsourced, the "Christian and Jewish views" section contains an entire unsourced paragraph, the "Hindu view" section contains out of date and off topic content, and the "View of Islam" is based entirely on primary sources. Finally, the lead section is mostly unsourced. Your allegation that the prod is unwarranted is not supported, and there is no reason for me to "wait" for anything to start or conclude when you are entirely incapable of providing a single source to support your claim that the intersection of religion and science on the topic of the Big Bang is notable and important. Rollback

Are you using rollback to revert edits at Atheism? In case you are not aware, WP:ROLLBACK specifies that rollback must be used only for what is clearly vandalism (according to Wikipedia's definition). Edits like this and this are not reverting vandalism. I am trying to pay a little more attention to this article but have not yet worked out what the current disagreement is about. Either the sources are challenged or arguments are made on notability. The trouble with west Punjab, lots of the stuff is early 20th Century, but I am hoping to get hold of District Census reports, in particular the 1961 ones produced by the Pakistan Census Commissioner which had brief ethnographic notes to give a bit more up to date information. However committed someone is, these things start to tire you out. And secondly, these articles seem to be constant victims of vandals and eager community members. I have no issue with the latter, and always leave messages on the article Talkpages for them to provide sources. I am taking sometime out as I am going through a really busy period. Hope to be back in August.

Ichthus is the successor to the long running WikiProject Christianity newsletter, run under the WikiProject Christianity’s Outreach department. As many of you may know, our unofficial mascot, dear Wikipe-tan, hasn't yet indicated any particular beliefs. However, yes, as we all know, ahem, some people might object to our beloved mascot running around in a French maid outfit. Christianity in other wikis

As many of you might now, there are a large number of other Wikimedia Foundation projects, including WikiSource, Wiktionary, Wikibooks, WikiQuote, and others. I certainly believe that Wikibooks and Wikiquote might be among the more directly relevant sister projects. If any of you can think of any particular efforts in these other projects which you think would benefit from more input, please let us know here, so we can help spread the word around.

Spotlight on the Outreach department

Ichthus will spotlight a different subproject or workgroup of WikiProject Christianity. This edition will spotlight on our vital Outreach department. This comparatively small, but vital, project unit is dedicated to welcoming new editors to Wikipedia and the Christianity related content, and to providing information to the various project members, in forms like this newsletter.

The scope of articles with which this group deals is truly enormous, and, given the wide variety of material with which we deal, we would very much welcome the input of more individuals, particularly individuals who are particularly knowledgeable of the less well-known and less frequently monitored articles related to Christianity.

Speaking personally, I would be very, very gratified if we were to have this become a very, very large and active unit, with members from the broad spectrum of Christian beliefs, practices, and groups. The broader the spectrum and areas of expertise of members we have, the better we will be able to help manage the content. Please consider whether you believe you might be able to contribute in this vital area.

Arbcom case

I have filed an arbcom case related to the mailing list that you are alledged is coordinating. You can review the case at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case#Anupam_.26_Bobrayner and provide a statement. Hipocrite (talk) 17:47, 8 May 2012 (UTC)

My concern was that the exact same group of editors (User:Mann jess, User:Artifex Mayhem, User:Dominus Vobisdu, User:Abhishikt, User:Bob rayner, User:BD2412, User:Aprock, User:IRWolfie-, etc.) were all able to show up at RfC A, B, C, D, E, as well as this ANI report so swiftly, making similar supporting statements, indicating a likelihood of offsite coordination. Other users have stated, in regards to the ANI case in particular, that "from the whole discussion here that if you remove the partisans/users that are editing from a diametrically opposed real life belief to Anupam that there is/was no consensus amongst the uninvolved commenters." Nevertheless, I do not intend on participating in the ArbCom discussion on this issue as I am EXTREMELY busy in real life. In fact, after the ANI issue closes, I was planning to take a VERY LONG break from Wikipedia. I value the contributions of the said editors above, even if we are often found disagreeing with one another, and would prefer not to participate in an ArbCom case against them. However, I would recommend bringing up this issue at the ANI thread, mentioning this evidence of offsite canvassing and having the thread closed as being a content dispute, which is what many uninvolved editors have been saying all along (e.g. Exhibit One, Exhibit Two, Exhibit Three, Exhibit Four, Exhibit Five). Lionel, that video is outrageous. Can you imagine the impact it must have had in 1964? It boggles the mind. Anupam, I appreciate your kind words, but you deserve a mentor like John Carter (talk · contribs), but of course, that would be up to him. I can only offer you advice at this point, as the community is getting ready to make a decision about you. I can tell you, however, that, like the Christian community, the Wikipedia community is very forgiving and would gladly welcome you if you would just follow the five pillars. More importantly, if you can be of service to others, that would go a long way towards building goodwill, and there are lots of open tasks on Wikipedia waiting for editors to dive in and get their hands dirty. There's also quite a number of core topics waiting to be expanded, and many more requested articles that need to be created. You may also want to experiment with creating new articles in your user space outside the religion/politics topic area, and expand them until they meet the DYK criteria. Then, submit them for peer review, GA, and eventually, FA. There's a lot to do here, and if you show a willingness to put aside your past conflicts and serve the community as a volunteer, I'm sure everyone would be more than happy to have you here. And, frankly, I'm OK with his assumption of good faith in you. So, I'll offer you a bit of advice that I hope you will consider: rather than "taking a break for some time, in order to reflect on these issues", I would suggest instead that you heed the advice from Viriditas and spend some time WikiGnoming on some low profile, but much needed tasks such as open tasks or the others that he mentioned. I believe

... in the statements contained in the Nicene Creed. I believe that the Bible is one of the two defining bases for belief. The other is the Sacred tradition, which provides us with means of interpreting the Scriptures, as well as some teachings which have been handed on by God outside of the scriptures. I believe that the Magisterium has been empowered to fill this interpretative function. I believe that clerical celibacy is a rule that should generally be followed. I am a member of the Catholic Church.

I'm new at this and not really an editor. But for months my article improvements are being Stalked and deleted I believe by an evil editor - Bullmoosebell. Its editorial harrasment. It occured to me now, I'm being singled (for evil) out becasue of my Log user name too. YahwehSaves (a.k.a. sockpuppet 75.79.31.20), you are not being singled-out by me, you are being analyzed by many editors and administrators because you continue to make make disruptive edits. You have been educated on the policies & guidelines and manual of style (to include use of an article's talk page "to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors") on numerous occasions. You've been warned, even blocked from editing for periods of time, because of your disruptive edits and choice to ignore the policies & guidelines and manual of style.

Additionally, you make shadowing edits without logging into your account, which is sockpuppeting (another violation), and that IP address has been punished previously as well.

You are not new. In more than 13 months of editing, rather than educating yourself on & adhering to the publications you've been provided, you've chosen to continue your disruptive edits, and even engaged in edit warring (another violation). Having done so, you've lost much credibility in the Wikipedia community.

Now, because you are being warned with punishment again and each of your edits are being scrutinized, you are taking this personal and displaying and offensive posture with insults (another violation). Research the publications you've been provided with, then follow the information provided. If you require further education, please see the principles of Wikipedia. How do I go About this?

The page List of scandals involving evangelical Christians has some serious issues, with a particular section of it concerning Jason Russell. An editor continually reverts my edits on certain issues and is not willing to engage me in conversation on the Talk Page List_of_scandals_involving_evangelical_Christians#Issues_with_the_Jason_Russell_Section. The info presented on the page is clearly erroneous and it seems the other editor is hell bent on keeping it. Since this page comes under the purview of Wikipedia: WikiProject_Christianity,how do I go about it and bring it towards the attention of relevant editors? I posted it on the notice board on project christianity and requested discussion on it. Is that enough?? To update, I requested a 3rd Party review yesterday from an editor listed in the editorial assistance page, I specifically made sure that he was an atheist who had an interest in religion, to ensure objectivity. The review has been posted on the Talk page Talk:List_of_scandals_involving_evangelical_Christians#Third-party_view. To his credit, the warring editor seems to have taken the review to heart and has made most of the necessary changes. Thanks for all the help you gave Anupam, I'm greatly indebted to you for your advice and your help. I'm planning to keep the page under watch though. Again!!Thank you!! Contest of the month
We currently have a remarkable lack of Wikipedia:Wikipedia-Books. Right now, Category:Wikipedia books on Christianity contains only 12 books. We certainly could have at least one book on each major grouping within Christianity. One of the challenges for this month, then, is working to put together books on relevant topics. For this month, one contest is for editors to assemble the basic Wikipedia books for each of the main topics of the extant related projects. When finished, they should their creation of the books at the main Christianity noticeboard, and at the end of the month the project will award barnstars to those who have made a significant efforts in developing this underdeveloped content.

Also this month, we are going to have have a challenge to create and improve some of our more important missing or low-quality articles. As biographies are often a bit easier, this month we are choosing two biographies: Karl Behm, which has yet to be started, and the currently Stub-class article Nerses IV the Gracious. A barnstar will be awarded to any editor who can get these articles up to DYK quality level and ultimately selected for the DYK section of the main page.

Thie coming month (mid-August through mid-September) includes feasts dedicated to the honor of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Bartholomew the Apostle, Nativity of Mary, and the Exaltation of the Cross.

Featured content and GA report

Wikimedia Foundation report

Wikinews is our sister site for developing news stories. Several events relating to Christianity, like the installation of bishops for instance, do not necessarily merit extensive coverage in wikipedia encyclopedic articles, but can and easily could be covered at greater length in a news article format. Given the number of significant news events that relate to religion, including claims of miracles, assignment of bishops and other religious leaders, church conferences, and other events, this site provides an excellent opportunity to provide in-depth coverage of current events at greater length than wikipedia.

One of our newer editors, User:David_FLXD, has recently gone through much of our content related to Methodism and assessed it. We are very grateful for his efforts, and that of all the editors who have had a role in developing that content. We have every reason to believe that this will make it significantly easier for the Methodism work group to create and develop content relevant to Methodism. To help that along, we certainly encourage everyone to do what they can to help David and the other Methodism editors to bring the content relevant to their tradition to the highest possible level of quality.

As some of you may have seen, the Simple English Wikipedia has been experiencing some difficulties lately. This particular entity could be of great value to several individuals who are trying to learn English. As some of you who do speak foreign languages know, one of the most easily available, and, in general, useful learning aids for people is a text they know already, which allows them to focus on the specific words of the new language. Various recorded readings and translations of the Bible are among the best examples of this. Any efforts to try to enhance this vital means of informing a large segment of our readership is more than welcome. People interested in helping develop it are encouraged to leave a note regarding their specific articles of interest at the Christianity noticeboard. It would be wonderful if we could report some significant contributions to this sister site next month. And, of course, if we do have something to report, those involved would receive our greatest thanks.

WikiProject Calvinism is one of our more important subprojects. It is specifically devoted to developing content relating to the Calvinist tradition, and the primary point for development of content relating to the Pilgrims, Presbyterians, Reformed churches, Congregational church, Reformed Baptists, and Low church. We definitely encourage everyone to do what they can to help this project develop the content relating to this extremely important Christian tradition.

I believe
... that human nature is insufficient for salvation, and the grace of God is required to do so. I believe that God has preordained who will and will not achieve salvation. I believe that Jesus's atonement was sufficient for the purposes for which it was done. I believe that God's grace is of such power that it can overcome any person's resistance. I believe that those whom God has chosen for salvation will, by the undeniable power of God, persevere in God's grace. I am a Calvinist.

WikiProject Holidays/Christmas task force is the group whose purpose is to help develop the content related to the Christmas season, including Advent, New Year's, and related holidays. As many of us know, in several parts of the world, including the United States, the Christmas season is not only the time of one of the greatest holidays of the Christian liturgical year, but it is also the "make or break" time for many retailers, whose profitability for the year often depends on their success in this time of the giving of sometimes significantly expensive gifts. In other parts of the world, the winter solstice period and sometimes specifically Christmas itself means something that might surprise many Christians, like the Christmas in Japan, where Christmas is one of the times hotels receive the greatest number of, often unmarried, couples staying there for the night. The solstice season is also significant to several other religions. Many of these days are also legal holidays in several places. In Belarus, for instance, both the Western and Eastern Christmas commemorations are legal holidays. We would certainly welcome the members of this project to donate some of their time and talents in the upcoming months to improving this significant content.

Your edits were clearly vandalism. Not a reversal of "edits which deleted a large chunk of information originally present in the article." You copied on older version of the article on top of the newer version. Looks to me like you have been warned and warned and warned and warned.... about your unhelpful edits. Stop making life difficult. If you want to change things in the article, make reasoned edits. If you look closely, you removed edits that YOU previously argued to insert. This leads me to believe that you are either dishonest, or that you were drinking and editing. Come on.--Revmqo (talk) 22:51, 19 November 2012 (UTC)

Spotlight

The core topics work group is the group whose specific purpose is to help identify and develop those articles which are of greatest importance to an overall understanding of the broad subject of Christianity, based on what is included in the core topics list. These articles include some of specific churches and individuals, history, philosophical and theological matters, and more. We have had some recent discussion regarding which articles should be included in this list, and it probably makes sense to revisit the selections, and try to figure out how best to work to make them high quality articles. Discussion is beginning at WT:X regarding these matters, and all input is welcome.

In the spirit of Christmas, the spotlight for the coming month might actually best be on those people closest to you. We know that a lot of our editors here are associated in some way or another with schools, and many if not most of them are going on rather extended breaks for the holidays. This can give some of us a chance to meet up with old friends, spend time with our families and those close to us, and, in a sense, "recharge" for the new year. So, for all of you who are in some way part of that group, we wish you the very best of holidays. We hope you all return to editing after the holidays with your spirits lifted and with your energies at peak level. There are some small matters in development here as well, and it is our hope that some of them will be ready come the next newsletter. Within Wikipedia, any claims of notability MUST include significant coverage by third party sources. Any claims without such third party coverage are just blowing hot wind. Spotlight

The Spotlight this month turns to the the Syriac Christianity work group. The scope of this project includes the various traditions of Syriac Christianity, including the Assyrian Church of the East, Ancient Church of the East, Church of the East, Syriac Orthodox Church, Chaldean Catholic Church, Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, Melkite Greek Catholic Church, Syriac Catholic Church, Syro-Malankara Catholic Church, and Saint Thomas Christians. One of these groups, the Assyrian Church of the East, is considered by scholars to have probably been, for several hundred years, the largest Christian grouping in the planet, with its numerous members in Central Asia and Eastern Asia. Numerous texts, traditions, and practices unique to these groups exist, including the Jesus Sutras and the belief of the Assyrian Church of the East that the bread they use in the preparation of their Eucharist uses the same basic yeast as that used in the bread of the Last Supper itself. Sadly, given the linguistic barriers to much of the content relative to these groups, and the comparative lack of notoriety they have in the Western world, much of this content does receive less attenion, and thus less development, than much other content. There is a large amount of extremely valuable historical material here still waiting to be adequately developed by editors with an interest in the topic, and I personally very much hope that we can draw more attention to these topics, and the content related to them.

We apologise for the hiatus in the publication of this newsletter due to unforseen circumstances leading to the wikibreak of John Carter, and so I have taken over as acting editor, and have taken this opportunity to move the publication date to the start of each month as planned, to better reflect on the previous month and look ahead to the next. This issue covers the period of time from mid-January to the end of March.

Since the last issue we have seen the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI and the election of Pope Francis. This has received much coverage both in the world media and on Wikipedia. While there is still much work to do, several quality articles have been written and the editors involved are thanked for their efforts.

This month we look ahead to Easter and the celebration of God's love for mankind through the crucifixion and resurrection of his Son Jesus Christ. With that, I wish you all happy reading!

Jesus nahm zu sich die Zwölfe, BWV 22, a cantata by the German composer J.S. Bach, was promoted to GA this month and was written by Gerda Arendt. Many thanks for her continuing work in the area of early 18th Century Church music.

Spotlight

The Spotlight this month turns to the the Jesus work group. The scope of this project includes the life and teachings of the central figure of Christianity, Jesus Christ and aims to write about them in a non-denominational encylopædic style. Top-priority articles include Jesus, Christ, Resurrection of Jesus, and Holy Grail, whereas High-priority articles include Aramaic Language, a former FA, as well as Sermon on the Mount, Lamb of God, and Passion (Christianity). The workgroup has also published two books, covering Christ's final days and the Parables of Jesus. The workgroup has two GAs, Nativity scene, and Jesus in Islam, but unfortunately the flagship article, Jesus was delisted in 2009. It is also responsible for three WP:1.0 articles, and the WikiWork of the project is 4.56, which indicates the "average" article is between Start and C class.

Hello, I've placed a deletion tag on the Cross necklace page (which I believe you created) because it seems that no reliable/credible citation can be found to support the claim that this is actually a properly recognised term. From the Editor

This month we hear the news that the Bible is to be made into a film after outstanding success of a biblical miniseries on the History Channel, and we have seen the release of Iraqi Pastor Ali Hamzah from his confinement in Iraq.

After last month's spotlight on the Jesus work group, the flagship article, Jesus, was nominated for Good Article status after much work from FutureTrillionaire and History2007, and provisionally passed by the reviewer, although they have requested a second opinion. Our many thanks for the hard work that has gone into restoring this article to a quality piece of work.

This month the second largest denomination of Christianity, the Eastern Orthodox Church, celebrates Easter and the death and resurrection of the Son of God Jesus Christ.

No particular contest this month. I am however getting rather close to getting together a more or less complete set of articles relating to different areas of Christianity which can be found in recent reference sources on the broad topic of Christianity, and about various subtopics, which I hope to have finished in the next few weeks. I wonder what the rest of you might think of, maybe, making the contests of future months be basically directed at filling in the gaps of our existing coverage of topics, like those topics given significant coverage in specialized reference works which we don't yet have content on, and giving the thanks, and rewards, whatever they might be, to those who create and develop such content. This month, we turn our attention to the Encyclopedic articles sub-group, which aims to provide "a collection point for lists of articles contained in other reference sources relating to Christianity, which could serve as a basis for developing our own content". Created by John Carter, it is primarily a list of links, red or otherwise, for subjects which have an article in the reference works listed therein. This serves as a very useful list if any project members are "stuck for what to do" and there remains lots of potential for articles developed from this list.

From the Editor

Since its formation in 2006, WikiProject Christianity has come a long way. A significant number of new articles have appeared on a wide range of topics, and the quality of some key articles has seen dramatic improvement. Yet, by the very nature of the open, crowd-sourced development environment in which we operate, as the number of pages in the project has increased at times our attention has been naturally diluted. We should of course strive for quality everywhere, but we should remember that this newsletter is called Ichthus.

Starting this month we will start a "Focus on" series, where we will try to "bring Jesus back" and focus on him. For five consecutive issues we will focus on one aspect of the study of Jesus. The goal of this series is to inform our members of what the project contains and highlight those articles which have reached quality and stability.

From this month until November we will focus on the historical Jesus, a topic which has been the subject of much discussion on article talk pages, as well as the general media. This is an important topic, and we have a good set of well referenced articles on that now. Then, starting in December we will focus on Christ, and the spiritual and theological elements that the title entails. Following that the review of the life and ministry of Jesus in the New Testament, his miracles, and parables will take place. And each month the "Bookshelf" will mention a book that fits the theme of the month.

We hope you will enjoy this journey as we present a new aspect of Jesus each month. And given that as the number of project pages increases, the ratio of those watching the pages declines, we hope that more of you will watch some of these central pages that help define this project.

Church of the month

The current building of All Saints' Church, Winthorpe in Nottinghamshire, England which was completed in 1888, is at least the third version of the church, which dates back to at least the early 13th century.

Focus on...

THE
HISTORICAL JESUS

Did Jesus exist? Did he walk the streets of Jerusalem? The Historicity of Jesus article answers these questions with a firm affirmative. Historicity does not discuss if Jesus walked on water, but if he walked at all. The issue was the subject of scholarly debate before the end of last century, but the academic debate is almost over now. As the article discusses, virtually all academic opposition to the existence of Jesus has evaporated away now and scholars see it as a concluded issue. The discussion is now just among mostly self-published non-academics.

In 2011 John Dickson tweeted that if anyone finds a professor of history who denies that Jesus lived,he would eat a page of his Bible (Matthew 1 he said). Dickson's Bible is still safe.

The article discusses the ancient sources that relate to Jesus and how they fit together to establish that he existed. The evidence for Jesus is not just based on the Christian gospels, but by inter-relating them with non-Christian sources, and the fact that they all "fit together". Moreover, the existence of Jesus is not supported just by Christian scholars and in recent years the detailed knowledge of Jewish scholars and their discoveries (e.g. Shlomo Pines' discovery of the Syriac Josephus) has proven highly beneficial. We encourage you to read and follow the article, for the existence of Jesus is central to the existence of Christianity.

Jesus Outside the New Testament: An Introduction to the Ancient Evidence by Robert Van Voorst, 2000 ISBN 0-8028-4368-9

Just a few years after its publication, Van Voorst's book has become the standard comprehensive text for the discussion of ancient sources that relate to Jesus and his historicity. This detailed yet really readable book has received wide ranging endorsements - Blomberg and Harris separately referring to it as the most comprehensive treatment of the subject.

A Handel manuscript

• ... that Johann Sebastian Bach wrote the initials "S. D. G.", for Soli Deo Gloria, at the beginning and end of all his church compositions to give God credit for the work, and that Handel at times did the same?

Welcome to the July 2013 issue of Ichthus. We focus on the chronology of Jesus, as well as looking back at the project content improved over the last month.

WP:X has gained another Featured Article, Gospel of the Ebionites, by Ignocrates. The Gospel of the Ebionites is the name scholars give to an apocryphal gospel that supposedly belonged to a sect known as the Ebionites. It consists of seven short quotations discovered in a heresiology known as the Panarion, written by Epiphanius of Salamis, and its original title remains unknown. The text is a gospel harmony composed in Greek, and is believed to have been written during the middle of the 2nd century.

St Mihangel's Church, Llanfihangel yn Nhowyn was promoted to Good Article status, as was two other welsh churches, St Enghenedl's Church, Llanynghenedl, and St Peter's Church, Llanbedrgoch.

HISTORICAL JESUS

When did Jesus live? When did he die? How do we know? We do, in fact, have excellent information about the time intervals for the life and death of Jesus. As in other people who lived and died in the first century, this gives an approximate date range, but still, give or take 3-4 years and we have pretty good estimates confirmed by a number of really diverse sources, ranging from inscriptions in Delphi to Roman and Jewish sources. The Chronology of Jesus article discusses how a wide variety of Christian, Jewish and Roman sources are used to establish the time-frame for the life and death of Jesus.

And all of his data fits together. For instance, the chronology of Paul had been discussed based on the Book of Acts long ago, then the Delphi Inscription is found in the 20th century in the Temple of Apollo. And guess what.. it confirms it and totally dates his trial in Corinth, which helps reaffirm the date of the crucifixion of Jesus. The same date range is independently estimated from the writings of Josephus on the Baptist's death. And it fits Isaac Newton's astronomical models for the crucifixion date as well as the independent lunar calculations of Humphreys. As that article shows, all these dates just fit together.

This two volume book (with a very apt title) is gem-filled with scholarly research. Paul Maier's article in the first volume is a classic study on the chronology of Jesus and provides a useful summary of a number of issues.

Hemis monastery

• ... that the Russian journalist Nicolas Notovitch who in 1894 originated the story that there was evidence at the Hemis monastery that an adult Jesus had traveled to India, later confessed to fabricating his evidence?

Welcome to the August 2013 issue of the WikiProject Christianity newsletter. We focus on the historical Jesus and reflect on the last month.

The project has another featured picture, The ruins of Holyrood Chapel, a digitisation of an oil-on-canvas painting. Our top-importance article, Jesus, has been nominated for Featured Article status, the discussion can be seen here; Knights of Colombus has also been nominated as a FAC.

Ecgbert (bishop) and Church architecture in Scotland have both this month achieved Good Article status.

Our project had several of its articles featured in the main page DYK section, including Hinckley Priory, Little Chapel, St Peter's Church, Ropsley, Chip Ingram, St John the Evangelist's Church, Corby Glen, Great George Street Congregational Church, St Mary's Church, Walton-on-the-Hill and Bunge church.

HISTORICAL JESUS

What was Jesus like? What did he preach? Did he claim to be the Messiah? Did he predict an apocalypse? What can we know about him outside a religious context? The Historical Jesus article discusses what can be known about Jesus with various degrees of probability. While scholars agree on the over all flow and outline of Jesus' life (his baptism by John, debated Jewish authorities, healings, and his crucifixion by Pilate) they have built various and diverging portraits of the rest of his life. These range from minimalist portraits that accept very little of the gospel accounts to maximalists who accept most of the accounts as historical.

The portraits of Jesus have at times been unwitting reflections of the researchers themselves, and Crossan once quipped that some authors "do autobiography and call it biography". However, the study of historical Jesus has made one thing clear: there is so much to learn about Jesus that the more one looks, the more there is to discover.
