The article about Cope Bros & Co is nice. I'll polish it a bit, if you do not mind, but I've also got a whole load of stuff to add to the thing. Thanks. Yes please polish. I can do the research but my English is bad :) The sources are mainly newspaper articles from Gales Databases http://www.gale.cengage.com/.19th Century British Library Newspapers Feb 2012 and the Times. I have the images if you want them . There isn't much online otherwise. The rest is from the Copes Smoke room booklets and family archives.

I only write in two languages: English and Gibberish. Some say my ability in the latter is better than it is in the former. Is Gales a subscription service? I've got vague memories of it. - Sitush (talk) 14:49, 7 February 2012 (UTC)

No problem! In that case, is there any chance of your emailing the things, please? I do not doubt what you have written, by the way, but am wondering whether there may be some leads that might be followed. Many people set up a throwaway email account (using gmail or similar) for use on Wikipedia, basically to keep the spammers and trolls at bay and to retain privacy on their normal account. That's brilliant, thanks. In order to avoid showing email addresses on the website, which could then be harvested by spammers etc, there is a basic email notification system. If you go into "My Preferences" at top right of the page then there is a box where you can enter your email address. Once that is done, and you have saved that page and left it, there will be an "Email user" line showing in the menu on the left of the screen when someone visits this talk page etc. And when you visit someone else's then you will see the same thing. I'll sort things out from there. No rush, by the way.

As an extreme example of what is possible, take a look at Churchill Machine Tool Company - an article that I rescued from deletion around this time last year and took to being a Good Article. You might be surprised how far the Cope Bros one might go! - Sitush (talk) 20:33, 9 February 2012 (UTC)

Re: your comment above, you are doing just fine. I am trawling through the Cope material, which is fascinating stuff. When I get to the point of using it then there may be a fiddly issue to contend with because we really should include page numbers for off-line newspapers. Most of the clippings do not have the things & so I might have to try to do a reverse search or something to get that info. I think that the best plan is to insert it and then trawl through for page numbers where they are necessary. Yes, I noticed your "OMG" at the start of the file name. You perhaps do not know that smoking tobacco was considered by many doctors to be a cure for chest ailments, presumably on the grounds that it made you cough up the gunk etc. TB etc was rife at that time. Of course, the "it's good for you" line was pushed also by the baccy companies themselves, alongside the glamour ("you're never alone with a Strand") and all the other hype. Even today, the difference between most pushers of products (any product) and snake-oil salesmen is not that great! And the "Guinness is good for you" campaign of my childhood, although banned in this country, is still going down great guns in, IIRC, Nigeria. Honest. - Sitush (talk) 16:33, 21 February 2012 (UTC)

Good question! :) are going to visit all of them this evening lol. I dont think there are many still open. The Griffin is one of them but not much history info. Coach House Restaurant is one..used to be called the Black Swan Pub, Priory House Conservative Club sort of a pub and formerly non political club. Might tackle that one next. BTW, no-one has assessed 1 Monk Street, Monmouth has it been over looked or waiting for me to say its finished? :)

Sorry I missed the quiz. I'm surprised you didnt win!. I saw the the gatehouse notability criticism yesterday and last night I found that the pub had a mention in another one of Keith Kissacks books on Monmouths buildings, hoping to appease the "not notable enough" critics so I put a paragraph in on that one. Is that not enough? How many books does it need to be mentioned in to be to have "Significant coverage"? . The 24 Church street notability criticism I can understand, but this one I am having trouble with. Maybe I am a bit dull .. lol . No objection to combining the pubs in one article as such but doesn't this that mean we lose the geo referencing per page and the QR codes become not so helpful? The pubs would not appear as individual Geo references ? Also if you stand outside the pub and scan the QRCode would you need to trawl though all the pubs a-g before getting to the gatehouse.? Maybe a I have it wrong?
