Vandalism and how to report it

Hi, thanks for your messages. I would have known it was yours even though you forgot to sign the first time, as the page history shows who made which changes. It's great to see a newcomer interested in reverting vandalism. If the last edit is the vandalism one, you can go to the previous edit in the page history, open that one, click on edit (you'll get a message telling you that it's an out-of-date version) and save, with an edit summary of "revert vandalism". If, however, someone vandalizes the fourth paragraph, and another person comes along ten minutes later, doesn't notice the vandalism, and makes a perfectly good edit to the eighth paragraph, you have to revert by removing the bad changes from the current version, which is more troublesome. Since I'm an administrator, I have a special "rollback" button for reverting vandalism. So if someone makes five consecutive edits to an article, and I consider that they're vandalism, I click on rollback, and the page is restored to the version of the last editor before the vandal, regardless of whether the vandal made one, five, or eighteen changes. It's possible even that someone could make four good changes and one bad one, and would get the whole thing rolled back. The problem with the Salem Witch Trials was that the vandal vandalized with a few consecutive edits, another editor with a similar IP address made an edit, and then the vandal continued. When I pressed "rollback", it only went back as far as the editor who had interrupted the vandalism, not as far back as the last editor before the vandalism started.

I've been keeping an eye on the Salem page for a while, but I don't know very much about the case, so I'm not always sure that an edit is vandalism. Another page with the same problem is Institut Le Rosey. Anonymous editors keep adding the names of people who are supposed to have studied there. Some may be true; some are obvious hoaxes. Helpdesk talk

Hi, I saw you posted your question on the talk page of the helpdesk instead of the project page. The talk page is about the helpdesk itself, the project page is the actual helpdesk. Easy mistake to make though. Therefore I moved it accordingly to the project page. See Wikipedia:Help_desk#Writing msg.27s to IP.27s.3F. My response is also there. What the BLEEP? - Deaf or Mute?

If she was mute, she wouldnt be able to speak. The character in the movie spoke at least once - something along the lines of, "Amanda, dont be an asshole." The utterance of that phrase assures us that she isnt mute. --AStanhope 21:34, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

She spoke in sign language and her roommate/buddy spoke to her in sign language. She is also Marlee Matlin - a non-mute deaf woman in real life. --AStanhope 21:53, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
