Congratulations on anti-vandalism work

Hello, Annonnimus. I see you have been doing a good deal of reverting of vandalism. That is great, thanks a lot.

It is worth mentioning that it is almost always a good idea to leave a message on the vandal's talk page. This serves several purposes. Firstly, and most obviously, it warns the vandal, and there is always a chance that they will stop. Secondly, sometimes an inexperienced editor will genuinely not realise what is wrong with their editing, and a message explaining it will clarify the matter. Clearly this does not apply to really blatant vandalism, but it can apply in borderline cases. For example, many people new to Wikipedia honestly do not realise that adding their personal view to an article is not acceptable, or that adding advertising is not acceptable. Thirdly, talk page messages act as a record of how much the user has been vandalising, which can be useful to others when considering whether to take further action against the vandal. Finally, if a vandal has been warned several times and is still vandalising, an administrator is likely to decide to block the vandal from editing. No matter how much vandalism has been done it is rare to block someone who has not been given some warnings. A useful list of warning templates to copy and paste to user talk pages is at Wikipedia:WARN, in case you didn't already know.
