Munich Business School

Munich Business School (MBS) is a private university of applied sciences for business administration in Munich that possesses the accreditation of the state as well as of the German Council of Science and Humanities.

History

Munich Business School was established in 1991 as part of the European Business Schools International (ebsi) under the name “eba München” (Europäische Betriebswirtschafts-Akademie Munich) on private initiative. Since its founding, the university has been offering study programs in business administration exclusively. In 1999, the university received the state accreditation by the Bavarian Ministry of Education and Culture, Science and the Arts. In 2003, it was renamed Munich Business School and a Bachelor study program was introduced in the course of the Bologna Process. The Master International Business program was initiated in 2004, followed by the first part-time study program, an Executive MBA General Management, one year later. In 2010, the university added a second Master program to its offerings, the “Master Sports Business and Communication”, while receiving the institutional accreditation by the German Council of Science and Humanities in the same year. Since the 2013/14 winter term, the university has also been offering a full-time MBA program, and, since January 2015, a DBA (Doctor of Business Administration) degree program in cooperation with Sheffield Hallam University, Great Britain. Munich Business School finished second amongst all German universities of applied sciences in the field of business administration in the Wirtschaftswoche ranking in 2015, based on a survey amongst HR managers. From 2009 to 2015, Rudolf Gröger held the presidency of the university.

Selection Process

To study at MBS, applicants have to pass an admission process in written and/or verbal form (the format varies depending on the study program).

Academic Studies

MBS offers the following undergraduate study programs: a three-year Bachelor (B.A.) worth 210 Credit Points (CP), a three-and-a-half-year Bachelor worth 240 CP, both in “International Business” and two 18-month Master (M.A.) programs, one in “International Business” and the other in “Sports Business and Communication”. Since 2008, students have the option to select between a German and an English track for the Bachelor and Master International Business study programs, respectively. Furthermore, Munich Business School offers MBA programs in General Management as well as International Management and a doctorate program. In 2007, all study programs of MBS have been accredited by FIBAA, and re-accredited in 2012. The tuition fees account between € 23,000 and € 30,300, depending on the degree.

Competence Centers

Courage Center of Global Entrepreneurship and Family Firms The center is a cooperation between Munich Business School and Courage and is perceived as a think tank for family businesses. Besides various advanced training offers in the areas of entrepreneurship and family firms, the center is doing current research in the aforementioned fields. Audi Institut für Sportkommunikation (Audi Institute for Sports Communication) The institute was established in 2004. It has made it its business to provide the economy as well as trade journalists with scientific findings and to contribute to professionalizing the field of sports sponsoring.

Extracurricular Activities

• MBS helps e.V. is a student association for community service.

• MBS Invest is the finance and investment association of Munich Business School.

• MBS Get2gether organizes social, cultural and sports events for the students.

• International Buddy Program supports the International Office and the exchange and study abroad programs of MBS.

• MBS Entrepreneurship Society is dedicated to the topics of entrepreneurship and innovation.

• MBS Sports and Social Events organizes sports activities and attendances at sports events for the students.
