Image of DVD cover

edit

Dear user, I think the image of the DVD cover you have been repeatedly removing from the home media section of the article Toy Story 3 justifies its use in the section. Even as per the page of which you gave me the link the image justifies its place in the article. It is inserted to illustrate a section in the article entirely dedicated to the DVD. The cover art is there to illustrate the DVD, as the topic of discussion in the section. It is used just as the movie poster or the cover of the soundtrack album for the film. They too do not help the audience understand more about there object, they are just to serve as a visual identification of the object discussed. The same is the case here. If you think the image here should be removed , then remove the other two too. But that will not be appropriate. You might say that the poster serves as visual identifier of the main article subject so it justifies. But what about the soundtrack album cover? The DVD is discussed on at least as much as that if not more. Still there is a place in the soundtrack album infobox used there for the pic. As such it is allowed. The same way this image is also allowed. Anyways it does not really matter to me whether the image is present in the article or not. It will just be better if it is there. Anyways, i just hope this won't affect our relations and that we will remain friendly wahtever consensus develops over this between us. :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by King Of The Wise (talkcontribs) 17:13, 25 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

User:Flat Out undid back to dance-pop and alternative dance in the infobox, which were does not mention from any sources. Under 'Composition' section says the song being labeled as "baroque pop" and "chamber pop" from sourced, that means baroque pop as a genre. 183.171.178.239 (talk) 00:40, 26 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hey, not trying to argue, just trying to understand, but you stated that "per WP:RS,& WP:SUBJECTIVE we need third-party sources not related to the production", how is Collider not a reliable source? I've seen them used and have used them in numerous articles. And if it's a quote straight from the director, writer and producers mouth, why then not put it? Only Girl (in the World)

Can you figure it out? Entertainment Weekly says "Europop dance cut".[1] (So what do I choose, Europop or Eurodance? But it was refused.) There's Pitchfork says "an electro take on "Funkytown"-style riffing on the verses, Euro-pop catharsis everywhere else-- moves "Only Girl" into classic disco territory, which is a nice relief from modern dance pop's congested take on four-to-the-floor thump." E.T.

edit

Hey, I saw there was an issue with the genre for "E.T.". Just for clarification, the Billboard sources says:

Anokute reteamed Perry with serial hitmakers Lukasz "Dr. Luke" Gottwald and Max Martin, who made sure "Teenage Dream" bounced as much as rocked. "Katy definitely knows what she wants and doesn't want," says Gottwald, whose five credited songs include "Gurls," "Teenage Dream" and the celestial hip-hop track "E.T.," which he'd originally intended for Three 6 Mafia. "She has an amazing voice, great taste and she makes great videos. It's nice to work with an artist who can deliver your music so well."

Scott Pilgrim

edit

I completely see where you're coming from with your revert, don't get me wrong. However, BFI is an extremely reliable source when it comes to a film's nationality, and it's not like they just make things up, especially considering that the infobox film template says:

I understand, Dentsu isn't a major company involved with the filming. But if BFI lists it as a co-production of the UK, the U.S., and Japan, that should be reflected. For instanced, FA Dredd is listed as being "a South African/British co-production". However, its production companies are British, American, and Indian. This is because the film itself states that it is a production of the United Kingdom and South Africa (where filming occurred).

Basically, the fact that BFI calls the film a co-production of those countries makes it a very reliable source saying that's so. Corvoe (speak to me) 16:29, 13 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Genres in Music Articles

edit

hi. Can you suggest what sources are best for verifying the genres of songs? It's not very helpful if editors keep removing genres without suggesting which sources are best to back-up the genres of songs. Also, this need to reference the genres of songs seems to be a relatively recent development on wikipedia, so if this is the case, you or someone else should make this known in the article guidelines for record charts and also provide examples of what references can be used to verify the genres of songs. edit

It was User:Lil-unique1's fault, it's not fair. He added electronic music in the infobox that he told the introduction is electronic, which it says "minimalist electronic production", but I think electronic music is not the song's genre because is talking about production, and Muumuse is a blog (where it says power pop), and electronic dance music has no citation. 183.171.179.107 (talk) 15:23, 18 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Revert of Harlan Ellison quote

edit

@Andrzejbanas:I don't want to get into an editing war, so I will state may case and if you disagree, you won't hear another peep about it. I think the exact quote is essential, since it states exactly what is in the film as "credit". there is no "based on" as some people claim, or any mention of specific works. And yes the quote is not in the cited source, I thought the statement makes it clear that it is in the film and the film is considered a primary source and thus can be quoted with not other citation required. Anyway, if you change your mind, re-add it, otherwise it will stay as is. Take care!AbramTerger (talk) 22:48, 19 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

@Andrzejbanas: But my point remains that it IS cited. It is explicitly written and displayed within the film. The film is a Primary source and can be referenced without any need of further citation. That quote is in all current copies of the film, whether on DVD, VHS, Blu-Ray or even remastered in Theaters. The quote was put in the movie while it was still in theaters. I recall seeing it at the end of the film when I first saw the film.AbramTerger (talk) 23:03, 19 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

"Pretty Little Ditty" mention on "Butterfly" page

edit

Hi, you recently reverted my edit to Butterfly (Crazy Town song) which added a reference to "Pretty Little Ditty" in connection with a critic's quote. Your edit bore the note "not mentioned in the source". If you read the source carefully, you will see that the critic did in fact link directly to "Pretty Little Ditty" over the text "the song where it came from". Furthermore, the current excerpt makes little sense, since it refers to a specific song but does not identify that song - hence my addition. The original source makes the referenced song clear via hyperlink, but the current state of the article does not preserve this meaning, and therefore needs to be corrected.

Please read sources closely before reverting changes on these grounds. Out of respect for your good faith, I will not revert your own reversion, and would welcome your input on the article talk page before I re-add the missing information from that source. Garbage album genres edit

edit

Please do not remove the genres again. As I stated in the edit summary, the album is independent and officially uses indie rock guitars (something stated by the band themselves), and songs like Milk, Queer, A Stroke of Luck incorporate downtempo. If you're not familiar with these genres then familiarize yourself, but don't remove them. Lapadite77 (talk) 15:18, 23 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Quit removing the genres. Subgenres that are part of the main, official genres do not need a source, and both indie rock and downtempo elements are blatantly incorporated in the album. The album page itself (& Milk and Queer pages) states trip hop (derivative of downtempo), and in case you don't know, indie rock is derivative/a sub genre of alt rock. Again, blatantly obvious the album incorporates indie rock and it was stated by the band themselves. Remember you are not the arbitrator here. If you have a problem with the genres being included, discuss it the talk page (where consensus can be reached) or take it up with administrator (which I will if you engage in edit war)- don't just repeatedly revert edits. Speedy deletion nomination of File:BlackSampson.jpg

edit

A tag has been placed on File:BlackSampson.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Your revert

edit

Your revert has confused me, seeing as you were the person to remove pop from the genre field in the first place. Secondly, Entertainment Weekly categorises albums rather crassly; as seen with Beyoncé which, if we used their source, would be nothing but a pop album, which it certainly isn't. I'd say there was one pop song on 4, yet almost every track is R&B in some respect. —JennKR | 21:26, 7 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Unblock request

edit

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Andrzejbanas (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

Hello. I was blocked after a Three revert rule. A was trying to suggest to a user that even material unsourced should be removed and it's up for them to find info before re-adding it. I didn't realize the shortcut of WP:BURDEN. I'd like to discuss it with them further so we can edit wikipedia better. I'll avoid editing the said article that caused my block in the first place. (outside it's talk page in case anyone wants to chime in with an opinion.)

Outside that, I have to Good Article's nominated. In case someone chooses to review them during this period, I'd be unable to respond via the block. I'd like to be able to contribute. I think my edit record shows I don't vandalize indiscriminately and try to civil with users. Either way. If it stands it stands. I'm good either way!

Quick edit: I'd also like to undo stuff like this [4]. It drives me mental! ;)

Decline reason:

To be honest, my concern with unblocking you early, is that this was tried before, and since then you've got blocked for edit warring. PhilKnight (talk) 21:03, 21 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Uninvolved comment I just came across this while browsing the noticeboard and I'd like to note that this is his third block, and he's the one that actually breached 3RR. While the other editor got a two week block, he received 48 hours (which I found unfair and have left a note for the blocking admin). Dusti*Let's talk!* 18:48, 21 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
Hey Dusti. Fair enough. I honestly thought he did fourth first btw. I guess I was too quick on the trigger. I was trying to communicate him via his talk page and the article's talk page with no luck. Oh well, edit under fire and I'm going to get burned. Andrzejbanas (talk) 18:51, 21 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
Hey Dusti I just saw this edit, how uninvolved are you? Andrzejbanas (talk) 18:55, 21 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
Entirely uninvolved. Notice that I've not edited the page at all, nor was I involved with the discussion at 3RR (I've recently interacted with the user and gave them guidance on the ANI noticeboard). Dusti*Let's talk!* 18:59, 21 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
  • Andrzejbanas, as you've already put the unblock request before I could place the block notice, I presume you're aware of the procedure. I shall clarify that the reason Luke got a 2 week block was because he has already been blocked for 2 weeks earlier this year. I had an option of blocking Luke for a month, but decided against it as the previous time, Luke had taken some kind of corrective measure - ergo the two weeks block for Luke this time to prevent continued disruption. In your case, if your previous block would have been two weeks, I would have increased the same to a month, again to prevent disruption as both you and Luke should have known better, given that both of you have already been blocked recently. Noticing that you've had a block of 24 hours in the recent past, and still do not seem to realise the gravity of breaking 3RR, I've given you a 48 hour block. Do note that I've not yet considered your edit warring on any other articles. My suggestion to you would be to read up on our 3RR and edit warring policies extremely well in the coming two days, so that in the future, you do not disrupt the project even by mistake. Take care. Wifione Message 19:17, 21 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
Hi Dusti. I accept that you were uninvolved but could you please give us a direct link to the conversation an ANI. I looked for it but am running out of time to continue the search. I ask because Luke had previous guidance here User talk:Ponyo/Archive 22#Sorry.2Fand a question and here and I just want to be able to see your attempt to aid Luke. Please note that Ponyo's reason for the unblock back in June states "I have unblocked your account based on our conversation below and your expressed commitment to gain consensus for your edits as opposed to reverting in the future." Luke made no attempt whatsoever to gain consensus in the current situation. Now I am not saying that Andrzejbanas' hands (er I mean typing fingers) are clean in this and I wish that the edit warring had not occurred. Thanks to you both for your time and I will understand if you do not wish to reply Dusti. MarnetteD|Talk 19:25, 21 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

man didn't realize this would be such a production. Hi Wifione, I have to admit I'm pretty unfamiliar with the unblocking procedure as a) i've been blocked only once before I believe, and even though I've been editing with people for about oh...8 years? I've usually dealt with people via comments or the talk page. Anyways, I'd still like to stress the predominate reason I'm requesting unblock was not because "I didn't do anything!", it's more about edits like that article I mentioned above and also about those two GA's which I'm still fine tuning and would like to be there in case some one edits it. I can leave those other articles alone in the mean time. Andrzejbanas (talk) 20:00, 21 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

No worries. I'll just cross my fingers that no one edits the GA noms. Thanks though @PhilKnight:. Andrzejbanas (talk) 21:05, 21 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
Hi Andrze, I appreciate your responses. I'm not ready to remove the block given that your understanding of edit warring and 3RR post the past block should have been extremely clear. I'm not sure whether you still understand 3RR and edit warring, and therefore fear continued disruption. Have you given the pages I linked to a good read? My suggestion remains the same. Take the time out to read up our policy pages. Your depth of editing has to be combined with the understanding of our guidelines and policies. Please ensure that you give a statement clearly while your block is played out that you've read and completely understood what is edit warring and the consequences of edit warring. Once you resume editing, please note that these words would be held up to you to remind you of your editing deportment in the future. Take care and best. Criterion

edit

@MarnetteD:, tons! I received a nice gift of the Jacques Demy set which has a lot of good information and great transfers all film except Lola which is about as bad as Criterion's 1998 dvd for Branded to Kill. I also one a big on ebay for To Be or Not To Be which I'm looking forward to getting around too. It's just a matter of taking the time to watch 'em and their bonus features. I've also got a regionless player so I've been able to get blu rays from the Masters of Cinema, BFI and Arrow Video as well. Might watch something tonight. Too bad I can't even edit a sandbox under the ban, would be good to make notes on. Andrzejbanas (talk) 12:50, 22 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the reply. To Be or Not To Be is a treat. Having only seen the codified Jack Benny persona as a youngster it was a delight to see how talented he was before that. Region free is the way to go. I have been a UK TV addict since I was a kid watching The Avengers and The Prisoner and my RF player has allowed me to more than double my DVD collection. I have found numerous sets that were less expensive (even including the shipping!) to buy from Amazon UK than from Amazon US. I got a very nice set of Werner Herzog's early films on blu ray recently and that is filling up my time at the moment. They will go to the sidelines tomorrow though as the anticipation of new Doctor Who episodes takes over. Having been a fan of Peter Capaldi since Local Hero back in the early 80s I am looking forward to his take on the role. Cheers again. MarnetteD|Talk 13:01, 22 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
@MarnetteD:, I'd really like to see some of those. I'm not as crazy about tv items as I find most of them aren't as strong or having as big as ideas as films do. The only shows I've picked up to really enjoy was the new Twin Peaks blu ray and Top of the Lake. Both are by film makers which probably comes as no coincidence either. The Herzog set is also impressive but I really need to watch my pennies as of late. At least I have a good amount of product to catch up on. Andrzejbanas (talk) 13:05, 22 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
I sure do know what you are talking about when it comes to budgets. The WH set was my birthday present to myself but getting it has lead to watching my pennies for the next month or two. Have fun!! MarnetteD|Talk 13:14, 22 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Black Sabbath (film)

edit

Hello, obviously you know this film better than I. So I cannot help but accept to stand corrected. Still I think that the quoted book by Howard Hughes is an overwhelmingly reliable reference and thus worth being mentioned. At least the film being in this book shows once more that this film has cultural significance. I take it now the set wasn't simply used again but once dismantled and then rebuilt. Maybe Hughes meant just the design was used again. Anyway, if something isn't unequivocal it doesn't belong into a proper Wikipedia article, right you are. Nordhorner II (talk)I am not a number! I am a Nordhorner. 08:34, 25 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi @NordhornerII:! I'll see if I can take a second look at the commentary, but Lucas (who is probably the biggest Bava expert around) says it resembles it, but it's not the same one. Even with my eyes, I thought it was the same too. I'll see if I can double check that commentary tonight, because I don't want to leave out info.

Glad someone is as interested in Bava as I am to even bother to add sourced material. The only edits I end up making to that article are people changing the plot to match the AIP version on Netflix. :) Andrzejbanas (talk) 11:59, 25 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Stop vandalizing the article Atomic Betty. You've repeatedly added back a citation that is essentially spam as it provides no information of use to the article whatsoever, in addition to making other questionable changes. Dogmaticeclectic (talk) 18:04, 15 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

I would agree with the Science Fiction genre per the citation that he's providing. I don't see it being spam, as you can see on the left hand corner they're classifying it as Science Fiction. Dynamic IP addresses

edit

Hi Andrzejbanas,, I've deleted the SPI you submitted at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/90.221.151.47 as the IP address in the range are dynamic which means they change without the person using them being able to prevent it. You can sometimes find this out by going to the IP's contributions page then clicking on "Geolocate" at the bottom, sometimes a guess of whether they are static or dynamic is listed as well as the company which owns the IPs. I have merged it into Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/90.200.85.232. Regards, Callanecc (talkcontribslogs) 00:45, 21 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

The second Orbital album

edit

Hi – following on from our recent discussion about the proper name for the article of this album, I've added a further four reviews from UK music magazines that I found in the British Library, and three of them call the album "Untitled". The images for this version of the album on Discogs (at the foot of the page) show a press release for the record from Orbital's record company Internal which states that it has no title, like the debut album. I think that pretty much proves that in the UK at least, there was no official title for this album. Are we going to go ahead and change the name from Orbital 2? Hi, Andrzejbanas. This post is to apologize for any annoyance I may have caused by bringing up your history or calling into question current editing practices in the manner I did. I'd like for us to work productively on pages, particularly those we both happen to be editing/watching (and not just removing things), whilst following Wiki guidelines. Any disagreements can be handled constructively and with objectivity, with the quality of an article as the primary focus. --Lpdte77 (talk) 15:24, 3 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Re:Born to Die (Lana Del Rey album)

edit

I think the point "alternative" is diffuser.fm is talking about "alternative" category on MTV EMA, not an album. But Binksternet reverted it and said "the genre refers to her recent album, this one". Can you figure it out? 183.171.180.100 (talk) 04:25, 31 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

The source said that "alternative music was represented by Del Rey." The most recent album of Del Rey under consideration for the award was Born to Die. She released Paradise shortly before the awards ceremony, so that could not have been the awarded album, as the judging process took longer. Binksternet (talk) 17:31, 31 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Question about finding sources for metal articles

edit

Can you look for reviews of the first four Soulfly albums and try to find sources backing up the genres listed on those albums/any other albums by the band that don't have citations for the genres? You did a good job digging up obscure Mudvayne reviews, so you might be able to do similar work on the Soulfly albums. --63.155.164.33 (talk) 01:28, 9 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Quique

edit

Hi mate. I see you've put this up for GA review - good stuff. Great record, and exactly the sort of thing I like to review. The article is pretty good, but REALLY needs a good copy edit IMHO. For example, the lead consists of nine very short sentences, seven of which start with the words "The album..." - this sort of thing can seriously hamper the flow for the reader, and should be ironed out in a GA class article. (Another example is that the fifth sentence doesn't start with a capital letter...)

My advice to you would be to request a copy edit at Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Requests, stating that it's already up for GAN - looks like they have a bit of backlog, but you never know your luck....let me know how you get on if you decide to try it out - if it gets done soon, then I might even get a chance to review the article. K-pop genre

edit

All songs by South Korean pop idol groups are in the K-pop genre, so I didn't think it was subjective or original research to include it without a source. Can you explain why I'm wrong here? --Random86 (talk) 05:04, 18 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Random86:, I don't actually disagree with you about the genre so I think you are correct, but regardless, I don't know how obvious that is to an average reader. If someone comes upon this single randomly, they don't know really know that information. That's why I think it's best to have sources for genres, no matter how obvious it is to editors. Andrzejbanas (talk) 05:20, 18 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
I actually think it's very obvious to the average reader. The lead sentence in this type of article says the song is by a South Korean girl group / boy band, and K-pop is short for Korean pop. I don't see how adding a reference makes it more obvious than it already is. Just my two cents. --Random86 (talk) 05:39, 18 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
If they aren't familiar with the artist though, it isn't. If they haven't heard the song, it isn't either. I don't think it's fair to give different musicians rules of who can and can not get genres automatically placed in. If I had to make it cold cut and dry, it would be that everything needs a source, which is what WP:RS suggests, and WP:SUBJECTIVE would note that anything that is up to an interpretation (like genre) has to be found by a third-party source. Andrzejbanas (talk) 06:02, 18 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
How does sourcing K-pop as a genre help the reader who is unfamiliar with it? That's the main thing I don't understand. For example, the source I added to Happiness doesn't define K-pop at all, and clicking the wikilink gives much more information. --Random86 (talk) 08:53, 18 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Your recent editing history at American Sniper (film) shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.

To avoid being blocked, instead of reverting please consider using the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. See BRD for how this is done. You can post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

I see you have started a discussion along with your third revert. That is not how it works under BRD. You leave the pre-exiting version alone, and discuss.- Gothicfilm (talk) 23:56, 27 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of File:OlivertwistPoster.jpg

edit

A tag has been placed on File:OlivertwistPoster.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia.

The purpose of this study is to better understanding the coordination practices of Wikipedians active within WikiProjects, and to explore the potential for tool-mediated coordination to improve those practices. Interviews will be semi-structured, and should last between 45-60 minutes. If you decide to participate, we will schedule an appointment for the online chat session. During the appointment you will be asked some basic questions about your experience interacting in WikiProjects, how that process has worked for you in the past and what ideas you might have to improve the future.

You must be over 18 years old, speak English, and you must currently be or have been at one time an active member of a WikiProject. The interview can be conducted over an audio chatting channel such as Skype or Google Hangouts, or via an instant messaging client. If you have questions about the research or are interested in participating, please contact Michael Gilbert at (206) 354-3741 or by email at mdg@uw.edu.

We cannot guarantee the confidentiality of information sent by email.

Hello! Since you're a member of the French Cinema task force, I thought you might be interested in joining a discussion about Georges Méliès and how best to cover his pioneering films on Wikipedia. I've started the discussion here: Talk:Georges Méliès filmography#What about the redlinks?

Horndog Studios

edit

Check the website closer. It is not a "self-published blog". It is a corporation. Here is their About page. Here is their Web and Mobile Series page. Here is the albums released by their record label subsidiary, Horndog Records. Here is the section for their Comic Books. And Paperback novels published by same company. Search around the site and you'll find they have multiple contributors posting web content and they sell merchandise and music. Ergo, not a "self-published blog" in any way. It is clearly a capitalist enterprise. --68.185.2.134 (talk) 20:59, 7 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Nothing on their talk page suggests it's anything but a self-published item by Isaac Baranoff with a lot of peacocky terminlogy. Their books are self-published and their music is just stuff uploaded to a soundcloud. I'm not convinced, but I'm willing to take it to a talk page of the pages your requested. Andrzejbanas (talk) 04:06, 8 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
Nothing from the company is self-published. It is a corporation and Baranoff is the CEO. They publish other people's content, not just Baranoff's. 68.185.2.134 (talk) 22:41, 8 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Arrangement =/= infobox genre

edit

I saw "arrangement" page in which "popular music" section, says "Popular music arrangements may also be considered to include new releases of existing songs with a new musical treatment. These changes can include alterations to tempo, meter, key, instrumentation, and other musical elements." Clearly if it is not really means any musical genres.

I Knew You Were Trouble and Catch My Breath, as you can see there "pop rock" in the infobox and any sections with reference, in which prior review or article texts says "pop rock arrangement". Destiny Leo (talk) 15:20, 12 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Question...

edit

Do you just remove genres because you think they're wrong or contentuious so you "request a source" by removing it? I saw your edit at Serj Tankian's page and thought that everyone in the universe would probably agree with his primary genre being alternative metal. I'm betting some people came to a consensus on that, being reason why it was the only one there. But I'm not positive, so I'll check. Just asking cause most of the time when i see one of your edits it's removing genres from a page. DannyMusicEditor (talk) 21:42, 26 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

No, it doesn't matter whether they are correct or not. I often even agree with what the users add, but I'm against having our own opinions on what genres are or aren't because people have different opinions and well, genre is subjective. I'd only argue my own personal opinion if someone had some backwards source calling Britney Spears as Scandinavian folk or something.

I'm mostly removing genres on the count of they are thing that are mostly add to album and music articles. Most anonymous users don't seem to add much beyond youtube hits or genres. Andrzejbanas (talk) 21:45, 26 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Then why do several popular song pages have genres that nobody has a problem with going unsourced? I seriously doubt this song classifies as power pop and emo... should i just go ahead and remove it?

Also, I notice in the genre WP rule (can't remember its name) that it says anything "challenged or likely to be challenged" needs a source. I seriously doubt that alternative metal on Serj Tankian's page would be challenged by anyone except people such as you. Why challenge it? DannyMusicEditor (talk) 19:12, 27 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

You deleted my additions to the Horror Films of the 1950's page?

edit

Hi;

I'm just trying to make the List of 1950's Horror Films more complete. I've been researching horror films for many years and I have a lot of information to add to the list, which is far from complete.
You said you deleted my contributions because I didn't add references, but I'm just using imdb.com as my reference on each addition. I'm not familiar with adding references, but couldn't I just use imbd.com as my reference?
Please reinstate my additions and put imdb.com next to each one as my reference source. I am just trying to make the list more complete, and my information is 100% accurate.
  Thanks for your time

Hong Kong film production

edit

When citing Wikipedia pages, it would be much more helpful to cite the relevant part of that page that you refer to.

I disagree with removing Category:Chinese fantasy films but I am not going to fight this. For the record, however, I wish to elaborate my position.

1. I do not disagree with your category i.e. Hong Kong Films/Production.

2. However: 2.1 It is still, to my mind, whatever you choose to say, a Chinese film. 2.2 Regardless how you, and others, choose to slice this thinly, I believe the majority of us Ethnic-Chinese, especially the overseas Chinese around the world, would also see it this way. 2.3 Where there is a world of difference for us, is whether a film is a Chinese film or a China film. 2.4 That said, regardless of the language, or dialect, Hong Kong, unlike Taiwan, is not a country. You can argue this any which way you want, but there is no getting out of this. 2.5 It would be interesting to see how this discussion goes viz Hollywood Films and American Films - I think the categories are almost exclusively American Films except for Hollywood Film Awards.

3, Therefore, while I do not make any bones about this being categorised as a Hong Kong Film Industry production - perhaps that is what the category should read, longer but more explanatory, I take exception to the removal of the Chinese fantasy films category, which I maintain this still relates to.

4. Having recorded my objection, I am now prepared to let this go and not be bothered by this further, unless you choose to bother me by replying to this.

Regards jefferyseow (talk) 04:31, 26 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

"I believe the majority of us Ethnic-Chinese, especially the overseas Chinese around the world, would also see it this way.". :) With all do respect, Hong Kongers I know would respectfully disagree. I've taken it to the talk page. It doesn't matter if it's a country or not, it's run by a complete different system than China and within the film business world) (and real world), they are considered seperate. Ever wonder why Hong Kong and China get a seperate spot at the Olympics? I know it's an exclusive situation, I just want to be clear that this is how they are handled in the film world and we should reflect that here. Andrzejbanas (talk) 10:53, 26 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
If you are going to conduct an argument, you could use proper English. It's with all 'DUE" not do respect, and SEPARATE not seperate spot. If you are going to use the language, please do not butcher it. I've already said what I have said. Do you wish this to end, or do you wish this to continue? If you wish this to continue, then I would say it does not matter if it is run by a complete different system than China &c. &c. because like it or not, it is still part of China, and what ever Hongkongers may feel, the viewing of The Bride With White Hair is not confined to those living in or originating from Hong Kong. jefferyseow (talk) 14:05, 26 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
Sorry for the quick type. Was mid-way through typing that one this morning. I don't disagree with you about location. However, that's not how the films and their productions are specifically set-up or organized in the film world. They are organized seperately. Calling them Chinese productions would be incorrect. I've brought it up WP:FILM's talk page. Andrzejbanas (talk) 14:08, 26 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
Were Wikipedia a specialist occult reference reference for people in the film industry, if this, for exampe, existed on filmwikipesia.org, you would have greater support for your argument. As this is not the case, Wikipedia being a general reference for the average man in the street, all and sundry, I can only agree to disagree with you. How ever your film industry sees this, I submit that the lay person in the rest of the world does not. jefferyseow (talk) 14:17, 26 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
Please take the conversation to WP:FILM. It's clearly a bigger issue we can not address and I'd like to rest of the project involved then just bicker pointlessly back and forth. Cheers. Andrzejbanas (talk) 14:53, 26 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the invitation, but, as I have already said, I am not bothered to take this further, and I have agreed to disagree to the arguments you presented. You are welcome to take this up with the rest of whomever else you wish. I am not interested in getting embroiled in pointless debate. The bickering pointlessly back and forth, as you put it is only because you continue to insist on bothering me with this. After all, did I not already say above, "4. Having recorded my objection, I am now prepared to let this go and not be bothered by this further, unless you choose to bother me by replying to this."? jefferyseow (talk) 15:05, 26 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
So in other words, you will ignore me, but if I remove these edits, you'll stop me? I'm confused and I want to clarify. Andrzejbanas (talk) 15:12, 26 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
You are not making sense. Please specify to which edits you refer. It's just as bad as saying please refer to such and such Wiki without mentioning to which part of that Wiki you refer. I think I have more cause to be confused. On my part, I cannot be more explicit than I have already been. If you reply this, I may be compelled, depending on what that reply is, to reply in my own stead. Which part of that did you not understand? And if that keeps going on, would that not constitute the bickering back and forth you referred to? Therefore, if you do not wish to hear from me further on this. . . . simply, don't reply. If you find that confusing, I am afraid I am unable to help you. jefferyseow (talk) 15:28, 26 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Album genres

edit

Hi, in my opinion it is ideal for the genres of every album and song to be sourced directly on its page, but it is also impossible to always do this and impractical to remove a genre that is sourced on the artist's page and leave nothing, when it can be reasonably assumed that the genre will be the same. Chelsea Grin have always been called deathcore, and their core sound remains consistent for all their albums. If we have deathcore sourced for the band and also a number of albums, I don't see why it would be preferable to leave their debut EP with no genre. For many albums and songs, there never were and never will be any reliable sources that discuss their genre specifically, and this shouldn't mean that their pages will never have genres included. This had previously been discussed on Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Albums/Archive_51#Genre_references; if you want to, you could revive that discussion.--MASHAUNIX 13:50, 29 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hello. I understand your frustration but I don't think it's fair to add genres regardless without a source either. The infobox is there to clarify information that should be in the prose of an article, not just a fill in the blanks. If the information doesn't exist (exact release dates, recording dates, etc.) we shouldn't place it. I agree with you for this band specifically that there sound hasn't changed, but it's too broad to say that across the board for all artists. I know it's frustrating, but even with that discussion there (which was three people with no real consensus or rule change), I'd rather get people to source things.

It comes to more confusing issues to. For example, I have (and I'm sure you have too) seen articles where genre is the only thing changed, or critics have said an aritst is one genre or another. What makes one more correct than the other? Are they both "correct"? I personally find sources that describe the sound better than any named genre in the infobox at helping a user know what the music sounds like opposed to "____core" which only mean something to people familiar with it already. Y'know?

So yeah, it's complicated. I've tried bringing up on various talk pages but no one seems to agree. But i think the generall consensus is still sourced material is better than unsourced things. Again, it's complicated! Andrzejbanas (talk) 14:28, 29 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

With better, I agree fully. My entire point is that when there are no sources at hand to back the genre of the specific piece of material in question, sources that back the same genre for something wider it is part of (album for song, artist for album etc.), it should be sufficient. I would also prefer for people to back disputes over styles with sources. In my opinion it is best to treat this on a case-to-case basis. In the case of Chelsea Grin (EP), I maintain that deathcore should be maintain (as it is backed by multiple critics calling them a deathcore band with a generally deathcore style), unless another editor disputes this (on a ground other than disputing the genre for the band in general; i.e. by saying that their sound has changed dramatically and the EP should be considered a different genre). Also I agree genre names aren't in general as helpful to readers as descriptions of sound, but that doesn't mean they are useless; they help us orientate around related styles, and the genre field is not kept in infoboxes for no reason.--MASHAUNIX 21:41, 30 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
My problem is, with articles that contain such little information such an EP when there isn't much prose. Why have the article at all? Couldn't all the important information relating to it be placed in the band page? Andrzejbanas (talk) 03:09, 1 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
In this case I agree (I would support a proposed deletion/merge), but that is somewhat of a different issue. Doubtless there are articles about albums and songs that are worth keeping, but will never have directly sourced genres. Anyway, as I said, my stance is this issue should be approached case-to-case.--MASHAUNIX 14:28, 17 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

This addition by Mashaunix does not fit with the hard policy of WP:V. If there are no sources discussing the genre of a song, then we simply keep the genre parameter empty. It's a mistake to try and guess or infer the genre of a song by looking at the album's genre or the artist. The song might be an outlier; there's no guarantee that the genre is verifiable. Binksternet (talk) 19:37, 17 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

I agree. Andrzejbanas (talk) 02:13, 18 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

SOAD's self titled album

edit

It says experimental metal in that source. Since avant-metal may or may not be a synonym to it (because apparently post-metal is also "experimental metal") some guy went and changed it to avant-garde metal. Perhaps we should remove it altogether since it does not constitute a clear description to a linked genre? DannyMusicEditor (talk) 19:37, 24 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

That was a great idea, can we do that from now on when we have those kinds of arguments? (Like using that Guardian ref as evidence that it's metal.) DannyMusicEditor (talk) 23:44, 13 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

I'd still like to find a solid source. I totally agree with you that it's metal, but as stated before, there are people (especially when it comes to more cult genres) who will argue indefinitely or just change things. They'll say "oh metal is too vague! it's _____ metal" etc. followed by "but there was no source before!" etc. That's why I'm basically in favour of having a source all the time. It just makes it so much easier. Andrzejbanas (talk) 01:48, 14 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

The Pale Emperor - Blues rock

edit

"There are bursts of belligerent stadium glam that hark back to 1996’s Antichrist Superstar, but more common is a bleak, bluesy rock that splits the difference between Bauhaus, The Bad Seeds and True Detective. Opener ‘Killing Strangers’, a sleazy chain-gang stomp, would sound at home leaking from the speakers of some greasy dive bar as dull-eyed strippers twirl listlessly on poles. At its worst, ‘The Pale Emperor’ feels grey and humourless. ‘The Mephistopheles Of Los Angeles’ is wheezy hair metal, while the dour ‘Third Day Of A Seven Day Binge’ channels ‘Lust For Life’-era Iggy, but makes hedonism sound like hard labour. Actually, it’s the glimpses of blues that prove perversely exciting: the Stones shimmy of ‘The Devil Beneath My Feet’; or ‘Birds Of Hell Awaiting’, which mixes squalling slide guitar with a riff like ‘The Beautiful People’ on hillbilly heroin."[1]

"The self-proclaimed “Antichrist Superstar” has made everything from heavy metal to industrial to dance music. The Pale Emperor introduces a new influence: the blues. In an interview with The Fader, Manson stated: “What I hadn’t ever found, till now, is the blues. The blues changed the way that I sang. And the music has a melody and a language in and of itself.” Now, this doesn’t mean this is an album full of blues clichés and songs about being left by his woman. Rather, Manson weaves a bluesy style into his music in a much more subtle way. Many of the tracks here have the familiar cadence and overall feel of a blues / rock song, but are still unmistakably Marilyn Manson. The song “Birds Of Hell Awaiting” has that classic 6/8 blues shuffle that brings to mind George Thorogood’s “I Drink Alone.” The two songs even begin in the same key."[2]

"In a report by Faster Louder, a slight difference in the music of Marilyn Manson can be heard on the new album "The Pale Emperor." A heavier "dirty bluesy hard rock" was said to be the new sound. Manson explained how the group did a little bit of genre switch, which is said to have been effective for the group. "The thing that I learned more about the blues being not simply the sound of the slide guitar, or something of that nature sonically, or the nature of a chord progression or a phrase that is very hypnotic, I just learned that it's being about the person singing and the person listening," Manson said. "You create a character and a story together somehow and it's going to be different for everyone."[3]

Can you please explain how the preceding paragraphs and sources fail to demonstrate - per WP:BURDEN - how the album cannot be described as "Blues rock". Thanks. Homeostasis07 (talk) 23:58, 31 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article I Vampiri you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria.   This process may take up to 7 days. Your GA nomination of I Vampiri

The article I Vampiri you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold  . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needing to be addressed. If these are fixed within 7 days, the article will pass; otherwise it may fail. See Talk:I Vampiri for things which need to be addressed. Your GA nomination of I Vampiri

edit

The article I Vampiri you nominated as a good article has passed  ; see Talk:I Vampiri for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already been on the main page as an "In the news" or "Did you know" item, you can nominate it to appear in Did you know.

There's undoubtedly some fine-tuning to be done before considering this for FAC, but it more than satisfies the GA standard. Happy to promote, and nicely done. Squeamish Ossifrage (talk) 13:35, 8 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Gothic

edit

I've been poking around search results in Google Books and Google Scholar, and I think there is potential to have articles about Gothic film, Gothic romance film, and Gothic horror film and new categories for the first two. The existing coverage on Wikipedia appears to have been spotty, so these new articles and categories would open new opportunities. Think if we did a gothic romance film article, it could be linked as the primary genre in the lead section's opening sentence? Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 16:19, 12 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Couldn't hurt, but are all the google search results strictly regarding it as a film genre? It might help to differentiate as all thriller films still link directly to the plain term of "thriller (genre)" or something. I'd love to get some half-decent film genre articles going though. Should we start in someone's sandbox? Andrzejbanas (talk) 17:26, 12 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
The suggested articles all appear to be under Gothic fiction, but I am not quite sure if they are all sub-genres. For example, horror films appear to leverage Gothic fiction, which may be part of why the coverage overlaps so much. And I completely agree about thriller (genre)! Check this out from my sandbox in 2010: User:Erik/Thriller film. We've never really tackle genre articles well as a WikiProject, unfortunately. I think we could start with these Gothic film articles because with Crimson Peak, there appear to be some sources that talk about Gothic films in general. (Gotta love it when they do that, like they did with films set on Mars.) Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 17:45, 12 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
I recently picked up this book on Italian Gothic Horror films, and it's got a lot of good definition of genres. Nearly all the genre articles need a good scrub from start to bottom. I think I tagged "Action film" needing a clean-up about 4 years ago. If I may, would it be alright if I expand in your sandbox for the thriller film at some point in the future? Andrzejbanas (talk) 18:51, 12 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
Sounds good! You may. :) Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 18:57, 12 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
