December 2011 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. Please be aware of Wikipedia's policy that biographical information about living persons must not include unsupported or inaccurate statements. Whenever you add possibly controversial statements about a living person to an article or any other Wikipedia page, as you did to Cheryl Ladd with this edit, you must include proper sources. If you don't know how to cite a source, you may want to read Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners for guidelines. Thank you. DVdm (talk) 14:22, 30 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Note. Please stop adding adding inappropriate categories to wp:BLP articles. See wp:BLPCAT. You can safely add a category to a wp:BLP if the article already shows sourced evidence. I have removed most of your recent additions. - DVdm (talk) 14:26, 30 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Speedy deletion nomination of John McAfee SwiftMail edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on John McAfee SwiftMail, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may be soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Hello Andrewnpeters -- re your enquiry about this article on its talk page (now re-deleted), the article was about a company that appears to fail to meet the encyclopedia's guidelines for notability. Wikipedia is not a directory of all companies, so mere existence of a company is insufficient to merit an article. What is needed is in-depth coverage in several reliable sources independent of the company, such as books or national newspapers. See Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies) for more details. Espresso Addict (talk) 23:57, 14 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Ok, thanks, this is helpful. Andrewnpeters (talk) 16:09, 15 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

To explain further; there are 3 problems
  1. The criterion for passing speedy deletion as no indication of notability is that there isn ot enough information for any reasonable person who knows WP to think that the subject might be sufficiently important. I did not see any in the article. There was no claim it was widely used, or technologically significant. It just says what technology it uses. The other admin who decided to delete the article deleted for another reason; they may have thought the association with McAfee is an adequate claim of importance to escape immediate deletion.
  2. We both thought it met the criterion for promotionalism , as the references, as it only advocates the use because of the alledged security.
  3. In any case, for an article you need references providing substantial coverage from third-party independent reliable sources, not press releases or mere announcements DGG ( talk ) 06:11, 16 November 2016 (UTC) .Reply
