Removed claim that Omicron symptoms are mild

edit

There is nothing other than her unsupported claim that what her patients had was Omicron. None of the articles say anything other than that they tested positive for COVID not what strain they had. Publishing claims that Omicron symptoms are "mild" based on a single, anecdotal source, before there is any actual evidence is reckless. I would suggest that such claims would fall under WP:MEDRS and that even attributed opinion is not appropriate in this case.

I am particularly concerned about her claim to have 'first identified Omicron'. To my knowledge that is untrue. I believe that the first identification of the Omicron genotype was by Tom Peacock of Imperial College, London when he brought it up for a unique Pango designation in the thread B.1.1 decendant associated with Southern Africa with high number of Spike mutations #343. I think qualifying it as a claim attributed to her is fair enough. It is not a statement sanctioned by any recognized authority and should be described as such. Scripting out her claim based on her experience with her patients is not justified IMHO. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.174.156.168 (talk) 04:31, 29 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

2.South African Medical Association (a trade union for medical practitioners)

This is not a trade union but a voluntary organization

3. and advises the South African Department of Health. The organisation is an advocacy body not advisory body.

4.[2] In November 2021, Coetzee was the first physician to spot the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant of Covid-19.

This is a self-proclamation by the doctor. The South African Department of Health states otherwise. Please check the facts.

5. Check qualifications.She is a GP not a virologist. 197.82.209.20 (talk) 10:37, 5 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Discoverer of omicron?

edit

There seem to be multiple competing claims for the discovery of Omicron in WP:RS. NPR claims it’s scientists in Botswana [1] while the BBC also credits Tulio de Oliveira.[2]. Park3r (talk) 18:16, 13 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
