July 2013 edit

Hello, I'm Excirial. I wanted to let you know that I removed an external link you added to the page Inrush current because it seemed inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page, or take a look at our guidelines about links. Thanks. Excirial (Contact me,Contribs) 21:40, 15 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Inrush current with this edit. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links may include, but are not limited to, links to personal websites, links to websites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a website or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. Jamesx12345 (talk) 21:41, 15 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Ametherm edit

Hi Excirial,

We are already in "external links" as ametherm. I am the application engineer at Ametherm. We will be perfect references in inrush current as we manufacture and provide technical assistance in power thermistors that are used for inrush limiting. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ametherm (talkcontribs) 21:50, 15 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

The current link to the FAQ section is already stretching the External Links Policy to its limits (Since it is a long list: Point 4 and 14 apply). Why do those apply? As a company dealing with the subject matter of the article there is an inherent interest to drive people to your own website. Eg: If i open the page i am immediately staring at a box telling me "Call Us: 800-808-2434 OR Get Samples". Had the article been in better shape the supplied link would have had a hard time being accepted as a reliable source but as for the moment a source is better then no source (Especially since the FAQ doesn't read as a sales brochure). Having said that: A link to the main Ametherm page is a definite no-go for the same reasons as mentioned above.
On an entirely different subject: Since you mentioned you work for Ametherm and the account is named Ametherm i will have to point you to use Username Policy. Accounts named after companies are not permitted due to impersonation, shared use and promotion concerns. Normally it is more or less customary to block these accounts but for the moment i'll point you to the username change request page instead. Along with a very strong suggestion to read or at least skim over WP:BFAQ and WP:COI. Excirial (Contact me,Contribs) 22:09, 15 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
