whole notion of a notability scale edit

"The whole notion of a notability scale is deeply flawed when applied to people who have actually created something"? Perhaps; but we do have to draw the line somewhere. All of our elaborate machinery of WP:BIO, WP:PROF, WP:AUTH, WP:SPORT, etc. is a collection of good-faith efforts about trying to figure out where the line is drawn. Not everybody who gets their name in the paper is notable enough to be in an encylopedia. I've had over a dozen articles published since the 1980s, been a delegate to some national political party conventions, have my own listing in the IMDb, have been thanked in the forewords of at least three books and one academic paper in a major journal, been Fan Guest of Honor at two science fiction conventions; but I'm just this guy, y'know? None of this meets WP:BIO, and I'm good with that. If the standards get too fluffy, you and I and everybody and their Uncle Einar will be in here. --Orange Mike | Talk 18:47, 12 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
