Welcome! edit

Welcome to Wikipedia!

Hello, Amcdhlsch, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some tips that you might find helpful:

  • Link to other articles with double square brackets
  • Add pictures from Wikimedia Commons using thumb for thumbnail|Left, right or center so it knows where to go|a meaningful caption|alt=a description for blind people
    • Example
    • Click here for an exercise in adding images to articles.
  • Now you know how to add pictures to Wikipedia, why not add your own? This shows you articles that are near you. Is there one without a picture or where you could take a better one? In many countries modern buildings are still copyrighted, but not in the UK and some other places. This is the upload page on Wikimedia Commons.
  • Add headings with ==double equal signs==
    • If an article has sections two editors can edit different sections simultaneously without edit conflicts. Four or more sections and you get a table of contents.
    • Here are articles where you can practice adding sections when you've finished splitting an article into sections you can delete from the top of the page.
      • ===subheadings are similar===
  • When you add information to Wikipedia please summarize things in your own words, and tell us where you got the information from in the following format
  • If you find unreferenced information on Wikipedia that you consider dubious or unlikely, first try to reference it yourself. If you know it is wrong, correct it, if you can't find a source then fact adds the famous [citation needed]. If, after a week no-one has referenced the information, feel free to remove it.
  • Double single quotes gives you Italic and triple quotes Bold.

Many Wikipedians organise themselves by subject area, we have hundreds of WikiProjects ranging from Arts to Zoology, and I'm sure there will be ones that fit your interests. A good place to look for them is Category:WikiProjects by topic, alternatively the talkpages of articles you are interested in may have links to relevant Wikiprojects.

Please remember to sign your messages on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~); this adds your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, visit The Teahouse, ask me on my talk page, or ask for help on your talk page, and a volunteer should respond shortly. Again, welcome! Managing a conflict of interest edit

  Hello, Amcdhlsch. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Hurst Lodge School (established 2020), you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the request edit template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Tacyarg (talk) 12:06, 25 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

I am the marketing manager for this school, the information provided on our page is inaccurate and concerns another school (HawleyHurst) which dissolved in 2020. Our school (Hurst Lodge) opened in 2020 and is therefore not connected to the information provided. We would need this page deleted and a new page created for us to provide accurate information!— Preceding unsigned comment added by Amcdhlsch (talkcontribs)

There is an article on the current school: Hurst Lodge School (established 2020). Changes about the new school should be to that article. Just because the old school is closed, that doesn't mean we should be deleting the history of it- it meets Wikipedia's notability guidelines as a school that existed for 70ish years and received much coverage in reliable sources during its existence. The Hurst Lodge School article clearly tells readers that "This article is about the school in Berkshire, closed in 2018. For the school of the same name in Surrey, opened in 2020, see Hurst Lodge School (established 2020)," so if readers want to read about the new school, they can click through from there. In that case there should be 3 pages then, one for Hurst Lodge Ascot, one for HawleyHurst and one for Hurst Lodge Surrey to make amends accurate as the three schools are not connected as this information is implying

Hi, please sign your comments with four tildes (~). I am the editor who set up the new page for Hurst Lodge School (established 2020). This was in response to an editor replacing the content of the page for the older Hurst Lodge School with content copy/pasted from the new school's website. This is not allowed on Wikipedia for a few reasons: firstly content on Wikipedia should be neutral and not advertising or promotional, and secondly it is a copyright violation to paste text on Wikipedia fro another site unless the author of the text has made it copyright-free. I received advice on the WP Schools project page to create a new article called Hurst Lodge School (established 2020). I commented on Talk:Hurst Lodge School (established 2020) that the histories of the three schools (the former Hurst Lodge, HawleyHurst and the new Hurst Lodge) are a bit unclear but that the Independent Schools Inspectorate treats HawleyHurst and the new Hurst Lodge as one school.
As someone with a conflict of interest you should not normally edit the page for Hurst Lodge School (established 2020) directly, but post requests for changes on the article's Talk page. The links in the conflict of interest sections above should help you with this process.
Since I created the article on Hurst Lodge School (established 2020) it has been tagged for lack of notability. This is because of the lack of coverage in independent, reliable sources of the new school. If there are any references you are aware of we could add, I would encourage you to post them on the Talk page. Tacyarg (talk) 15:33, 25 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
