Welcomes and kudos

Hello there, welcome to the 'pedia! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. If you need pointers on how we title pages visit Wikipedia:Naming conventions or how to format them visit our manual of style. If you have any other questions about the project then check out Wikipedia:Help or add a question to the Village pump. Cheers! --maveric149

Welcome! It' looks like you're making good contributions about classic animation! Cheers, -- Infrogmation 03:46 Mar 19, 2003 (UTC)

Hi there. Nice work expanding Daffy Duck etc. :-) -- Tarquin 09:45 Mar 20, 2003 (UTC)

Hi Brian! Great work so far. Re: Magical girls/Magical girl -- don't worry too much about naming conventions. After you've been here a while, they'll become second nature to you. Until then, someone will (almost) always help you by changing the titles. -- Stephen Gilbert 17:51 Mar 24, 2003 (UTC)

I just wanted to give you kudos on your Flapper article and other contributions. Keep up the great work! -- Infrogmation 00:46 Mar 30, 2003 (UTC)

Thank you much! I'm glad to see folks are enjoying my contributions. This is an addictive place to be! Amcaja 00:49 Mar 30, 2003 (UTC)

Crusader Rabbit

While contemplating a List of Fictional Lagomorphs, I remembered Crusader Rabbit. Anything you can add to him? <G> -- Someone else 01:12 Mar 28, 2003 (UTC)

Sorry, I'd never heard of the character until you mentioned him. My animation books don't have much more on him than his current Wikipedia entry, anyway. Amcaja 01:45 Mar 28, 2003 (UTC)
Oh, well, worth a try.<G> If only there were public domain images of animation characters, but I guess that's not going to happen soon. -- Someone else 01:47 Mar 28, 2003 (UTC)
Nice article on Crusader Rabbit at http://www.toontracker.com/crusader/crusader.htm, and some cool pictures at http://www.toontracker.com/crusader/crusapix.htm -- Zoe

Felix article

Are you sure you didn't copy that Felix the Cat article? LittleDan

I tried a couple of phrases in google and didn't get any hits. Does that look like some book you're familiar with, Little Dan? That of course wouldn't be allowed for copyright reasons. If those are original work, they look very nice. -- Infrogmation
Hi, guys. Everything I've contributed has been original work. Felix' sources were The History of Animation by Charles Solomon and some webpages I consulted.

Thought you might want to sneak a peek at your baby. It's grown up quite a bit.  :^) I've been working on ol' Felix and I just put it up as a featured article nomination. - Lucky 6.9 22:40, 13 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Good work. I've gone through and copy edited everything that people have added in the flurry. Take a look; I think it's in the best shape it's ever been in. Amcaja 10:13, 16 Aug 2004 (UTC)
the vidcap wasn't taken in 1936, right? - I had a mental note to make the same change (the trouble with mental notes is that they aren't worth the paper they are written on). Looking at the following vidcap screen, there is a copyright date which is difficult to read but looks like it might be MCMLIX or 1959. -- Solipsist 15:23, 16 Aug 2004 (UTC)
 • Wow, I hadn't seen that! The article stated that the character was dumbed down (my words, not the article's) when he went to color and the picture was listed as being Technicolor. The style is very 1930s compared to the TV show. Only other thing I can think of is a renewal of copyright, because I'm sure I never saw such a well-detailed Felix playing a lute on TV.  :^) BTW, the article really does look great. Keep your fingers crossed there in Cameroon, Brian! - Lucky 6.9 01:19, 19 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Article Licensing

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

Impressed

Hi Brian,

I just want to say that I'm impressed by the articles you list under 'African stuff' on your user page. I think I came across Maka-Njem or Bamileke when I was checking out some Bantu languages; and the quality and length of the article surprised me, as articles like this are very rare in this area of Wikipedia. So I give you this Sunflower of Thanks for contributing content of exceptional high quality. Are you aware of Wikiproject Countering Systemic Bias? Because you're doing just that. Keep up the good work!

On a sidenote, I've placed the excellent Adamawa Province on Peer Review and after that I intend to nominate it at Featured Article Candidates. Kind regards, mark 01:52, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Daffy Dumas Duck

I did some checking and found that name was used exactly once, in "The Scarlet Pumpernickel" (1950). It's the name Daffy puts on a script he is trying to sell to the studio. The script is a takeoff on the novel "The Scarlet Pimpernel" by Baroness Emmuska Orczy. Alexandre Dumas was the author of "The Three Musketeers", "The Man in the Iron Mask", "The Count of Monte Cristo" and other tales contemporary with the Scarlet Pimpernel's time frame. It is reasonable to assume that this was just a joke (possibly a sly double-meaning joke, given the track record of the "Termite Terrace" guys, who brought us geographical names like "Bear Butte") and I'm guessing that some "ignoranimous", as Bugsy would say, took it literally. As a result, there are several Google references to "Daffy Dumas Duck" that imply that was his real name somehow. Wahkeenah 18:19, 13 May 2005 (UTC)

Charlie Dog nonsense

The old Charlie Dog cartoons which had to do nothing with "disco" in the 1940s and 50s, but it did not exist in those decades, the genre began in the 1970s, but my family (or my parents) got this all wrong mistaking Charlie for a singer, and tried to warn me not to watch his shows. He did not host his own shows and I am sure that WB denies the claims.

This situation has gotten stupid. (unsigned by User:65.54.98.143)

You're telling me. Amcaja 20:12, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Yes! But, do you know any such 1970s cartoon series like that?

See User:Jeff schiller?

Nope. I think the whole "Disco Dog" thing is either one user's vandalism or else his delusion. Amcaja 30 June 2005 13:40 (UTC)

But, I saw him on television, in only the "Pup Named Charlie" show between 1987 and 1990, I don't remember what was the show about, and but it has been a long time. Because you deny these spinoff series that were on TV don't make any sense to me, COME ON, put these titles of the "spinoffs" back on there. You can find it on Google. (unsigned by user User:65.54.154.48)

You are either thinking of A Pup Named Scooby-Doo or you are just being a nuissance. Please do not edit my talk page again unless you can provide proof of these phantom television series. Amcaja 7 July 2005 12:23 (UTC)

That was about 12:23 (I think, that is London Time, in the afternoon,) when that was 6:23 in the morning, my time. Right now it is almost 7 or 8 hours, he seems to be no longer responding. Could he have had been living in London, England, during the time of the tragedy? (unsigned by User:65.54.155.15)

Brian. Sorry, I haven't been keeping up with my wiki edits in the last half year. The Charlie Dog Vandal has also come to my talk page under 4.160.219.227 and others if you check that page's history. For the most part, I'm just trying to ignore it as the person rarely seems to make sense to me. Jeff schiller 8 July 2005 05:34 (UTC)

It's not nonsense. I already have a pitcure of "Disco Dog", including Charlie/Scooby cartoons, but all printed from the computer, it's too late. Cartoon Network, along others seem to deny there's a 1970s cartoon series on television, would be thinking that I am crazy or a liar? How about the BBC and other English television networks, they don't know if this can be verified, and I am not "vandalizing" your talk page-

Also, I could turn this over to authorities.

The Cartoon Vandal

Brian, it's obvious that you're dealing with a long-time problem user dubbed "The Cartoon Vandal", who occasionally pops up and makes nonsensical hoax edits to cartoon and animation articles. Ignore him, revert him, report him as a vandal. --Calton | Talk 14:18, 11 July 2005 (UTC)

Well, no one wanted to delete the "hoax" edit in the Scooby page in the Spin-off TV series after two days, it looks like Amcaja and Jeff Schiller could be banned from Wikipedia. I was being reported, and banned, but not this week, but Wikipedia it looks like it will ban users, and protect bogus edits. Unsigned by User:65.54.154.113

Back?

I see you're fairly active these days. Are you back from Cameroon? In that case, welcome back, and keep up the good work! — mark 14:35, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Got back this past Saturday. Right now, I'm still adjusting to the reverse culture shock, but I hope to begin writing new articles soon. Thanks for the welcome back! Amcaja 18:23, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Re: The Three Bears.

Rogers played Joonyer in the first short according to http://home.wi.rr.com/tatay/cartoons/bearsfilms.html and others

He Did? I didn't know that. Freberg said that he did in a number of Looney Tunes documentaries I've seen, talking about how he was eighteen when he started (whcich would have been 1944). I don't dispute your facts, I'm saying that Freberg is an exaggerationist and I didn't know it. Thanks for the correction. --FuriousFreddy 13:35, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Well, all I have as a source at hand are various websites. The Three Bears (Looney Tunes) article does mention Freberg as the voice of Junior for the other Three Bears cartoons (just not the first one). I bet that this far down the line he may have forgotten that he wasn't the voice in all of them. :) Amcaja 20:09, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Baka Pygmy categorisation

Hi Brian. I would like to reinstate the Category:Indigenous peoples of Central Africa to the Baka pygmy article, which I note you had replaced with other "ethnic group" categories. The different category schemes need not be in conflict. Please see Category talk:Indigenous peoples for some exposition on the rationale behind the indigenous category schema, and let me know if you've any further objection. Cheers. --cjllw | TALK 2005 June 30 08:35 (UTC)

Okay, I see your point; the two categories are not in conflict, so feel free to reinstate it. This does seem potentially problematic, however; should the same category be applied to all articles on Cameroon's ethnic groups? And since Cameroon is also considered part of West Africa, should Category:Indigenous peoples of West Africa be applied as well? Amcaja 30 June 2005 12:31 (UTC)

Thanks Brian. No, not all ethnic groups of Cameroon (or elsewhere) would warrant inclusion in an indigenous peoples category; only those for whom there is evidence that specific recognition or claim is made, as per the particular sense of the term used at Category:Indigenous peoples. Although of course the vast majority of Africans may be said to be indigenous to the continent, originating there and nowhere else, only a minority of African peoples are identifying as indigenous peoples in the modern analytical sense of the term- see this report from the ACHPR for some examples. Indigenous peoples would only be a subset of ethnic groups, if you like. As far as regional identification goes, perhaps inclusion in both Central & West African subcats is appropriate, since as you mention the boundaries btw the two regions overlap in many interpretations.--cjllw | TALK 2005 July 1 01:21 (UTC)

Tasmanian Devil FAC

Thanks for your points on the Tasmanian Devil article. I think I have addressed everything but the capitalisation of the common name, which I think we will have to agree to disagree on at this point. There is nothing to stop anyone making any changes to articles on FAC, I frequently help polishing atricles that have been nominated before they were up to scratch, so if there is anything else that you think could be improved don't hesitate to fix it. Thanks again. --nixie 09:22, 23 July 2005 (UTC)

Will do. Amcaja 13:42, 23 July 2005 (UTC)

I did not do a damn thing

No one knows if there were a cartoon showing Charlie and Scooby as claimed, last year. I wouldn't startle. Despite with my parents ignorance, but they insisted there is a Charlie Dog cartoon series, and at only one time, told me to shut up about the character, but they deny all of that, and would later threaten them. But, I won't do it, now.

Mr. Brian [name removed for privacy reasons], I am not sure your parents were aware of any disco cartoon shows, I am going to take care of this situation.

Category:Star Wars films

Only Episodes I-VI are "Star Wars" films, as part of the "Star Wars" series. I don't see why this is so hard to understand. There are spin-offs and spoofs, but those are not "Star Wars" films, as they are not part of the series. Copperchair 16:55, 31 July 2005 (UTC)

Please, let's discuss this on the Category talk:Star Wars films. Amcaja 18:32, 31 July 2005 (UTC)

GURPS Historical Folks

Sorry to bother you here, but I couldn't find a valid email address. My apologies if I have the wrong Brian [name removed for reasons of privacy]. I was really impressed by your work with GURPS Historical Folks. I've been trying out converting some of the templates to 4th edition. Would you be interested in posting any of the conversions on your page for GURPS Historical Folks? Alternately, would you object to me posting the conversions on the GURPS forums or elsewhere? I'm not familiar with the details of copyright law, but I do understand that these templates are yours and you put a lot of time into them, so I'll abide by your wishes. You can contact me at infornific@aol.com. Thanks.

Template:Infobox Province of Cameroon

There is no written policy yet, but consensus is to skin table elements to match the rest of the site, e.g. image boxes. ed g2stalk 19:32, 6 August 2005 (UTC)

With regards to image boxes, there was a big vote on meta a while ago, not sure where. The point is by using a stylesheet class, the appearance is tied to the skin, so it can be edited by the user, or change with different skin settings, as opposed to using whatever the user agent sets as the default. For an example look at all the box elements at the bottom of this page. ed g2stalk 00:08, 7 August 2005 (UTC)
A horizontal rule under the image (----) should do the trick. ed g2stalk 01:46, 7 August 2005 (UTC)
Looks like someone beat me to it. The |- (<tr> in html) indicates the start of a new row and only nests | (<td>s), so the ---- (<hr />) has to go after the | (<td>).
In HTML it would look like:

<table> <tr> // Table row <td> // Table data <hr /> Column 1, Row 1 </td> <td> Column 2, Row 1 </td> </tr> [repeat above for more rows] </table>

West Africa regional map

You know, I was just signing on to see if I could get you to update the W. Africa map (having seen your fine work on that page and elsewhere), only to discover you've already done so. You're really on the ball with this! Many thanks, --Dvyost 04:36, 12 August 2005 (UTC) (PC Mali '02)

We're trying to come to consensus about the standardization of infobox formatting. This discussion is starting at Wikipedia Talk:Infobox standardisation. I saw you had asked User:Ed g2s about this consensus on his talk page, so I thought I would point you to the discussion that is starting up, if you are interested. Thanks! -- hike395 07:23, August 13, 2005 (UTC)
