Hey there. Congratulations, you've just been made a sysop! You've volunteered to do housekeeping duties that normal users sadly cannot participate in. Sysops can't do a lot of stuff: They can't delete pages just like that (except junk like "LALALALAL*&*@#@THIS_SUXX0RZ"), and they can't protect pages in an edit war they are involved in. But they can delete random junk, ban anonymous vandals, delete pages listed on Votes for deletion (provided there's a consensus) for more than one week, protect pages when asked to, and keep the few protected pages that exist on Wikipedia up to date.

Almost anything you can do can be undone, but please take a look at The Administrators' how-to guide and the Administrators' reading list before you get started (although you should have read that during your candidacy ;). Take a look before experimenting with your powers. Also, please add Administrators' noticeboard to your watchlist, as there are always discussions/requests for admins there. Anime DVD cases help (updated)...

I got your note and I don't know why the linked added was removed, but I can understand why. Anyways, Wikipedia doesn't seem to have an article about, well, DVD cases and I have written one up. Well... posting a link on Anime for the sole purpose of explaining DVD cases doesn't make much sense at all. A new article about DVD cases? I'm not sure how encyclopedic that is. It may be interesting and factual, but remember, you need to keep a neutral point of view and the article has to be licensed under the GFDL in order to be eligible for inclusion on Wikipedia. Well, I was looking around for some information of type of DVD cases around (you know, there are so many hooks that hold the DVD cases), but not much information about them, like what the names called it, who makes those cases, are they bad, are they good? Advantage or not? Oh, that article below is actually what I wrote and I would like to put something on Wikipedia that somehow seem a little new. That's why I ask for a little help here, want to get things right.

I believe that you could be a little bit more general in the title, like Disk case, because these cases don't have to store DVDs. Since it's your article, you probably want to state on the website that it is licensed under the GFDL. Oh, my article written on my site is just for that site. I'm just gonna used that as a base if I can rewrite one here at Wikipedia (to look more of an information here rather then a POV on my site). Basically, everything that is on Wikipedia is licensed under the GFDL. While this prevents blatant cut and paste plagiarism incidents, it also prevents contributors from writing text for Wikipedia and saying "Only Wikipedia can use it" (because that's not what the GFDL is all about: we're all about free content). So if we want to use your pictures/images on Wikipedia, they must be licensed under GFDL. Regarding text, well, it's probably better to play the safe side and license that in GFDL too (even if you're not directly copy-pasting it to Wikipedia). P.S. Is it my site that I need to sign up for the GFDL? If so, how do you do that? Well, those pictures of those disc cases, it's me who made them and took them with my camera, so not really an issue with the copyrights. Boy, it's confusing.

No, GFDL is not a service you sign up for ;-) When you create something, the US government automatically assigns you copyright. These give you exclusive rights to the stuff you make. When you see stuff on the web, you sometimes see "All Rights Reserved", that means that the creator retains all these exclusive rights.

A license gives people permission to do things: in effect, you are granting the user certain rights, such as the right to reproduce the file, to make changes to it and redistribute those changes, etc. GFDL is one such license. The most salient points are that "it stipulates that any copy of the material, even if modified, carry the same license". The license grants perpetual rights, so it is sort of irrevokable (although, as long as you retain the copyright, you may grant other rights to other people under different licenses, or cease granting GFDL licenses (even though anyone who originally "got" the license still has the right to redistribute)).

You may be interested in reading about the open source movement, which explains quite a bit of the rationale for such a system even though it is more pertinent to code.

As to how to license you stuff, you simply follow the instructions on the GFDL page, which basically requires you to add a snippet to the end of your text as well as a copy of the license. — Ambush Commander^(Talk) 22:15, 25 January 2006 (UTC)

If you feel that it also needs the link at the top of the section, {{details}} might be better than {{main}}, as it is also used for several other sections of the article. Linkspamming

I notice that you remove a lot of links that you regard as linkspam. I understand that you want to keep Wikipedia's content in high respects, but some of this is overkill. Many of the sites that you have removed are deserving of a spot under links on that page. I would like you to think twice before removing a site like.

Vandalism of Salem Witch Trials

Hi, I think your idea about dropping the lists is a good one. You might consider taking an interest in Institut Le Rosey as well. It has exactly the same problem. A lot of anons add names to the list of people who supposedly attended that school, and I'm sometimes not sure whether it's a valid edit or deliberate vandalism. Re: Use on talk page

Well IANAL, but I'm sure it could qualify for fair use (at least in some cases) speaking from a strictly legal perspective. The problem in this case is that Wikipedia policy explicitly doesn't allow fair use images outside articles (feel free to link to existing used fair use images though). If you need a fair use image as "proof" for whatever I would suggest uploading it somewhere else (like Photobucket or whatever), unless it already appear online and then link to it off-site instead. Fair use images on the Wikipedia servers will as a matter of policy get deleted if they do not appear in actual articles, so this would be a better long term solution anyway IMHO. --Sherool (talk) 22:14, 8 February 2006 (UTC)

Hi. I found you at random from the list of admins. There is a user that keeps deleting the Shi'a Muslim pov from a article. Could you take a look and see if the actions are appropriate? [1]

I was thought that Wikipedia wanted to represent all views. In case the user says it is not relevant as a view, then the user is removing it as a simple fact, also a violation so far i have learned.

Golden Gate bridge

That's my photograph, one I'm quite pleased with. I originally set it in the "suicides" section, because I figured that it had a sort of "golden end" quality about it, but i didn't want to be too insensitive. Somebody else moved it up when they put in a more suicide-related photograph.

The article is quite long and can take quite a few photographs without looking cluttered, otherwise I'd opt for a Gallery approach, as in Tower Bridge. No need to reply to this. --Jumbo 03:24, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

RV on pH[2]

You've reverted to a previous version. The one you reverted from was the correct one. One uses square brackets [] to indicate concentration of a chemical. The superscript of the + is also correct (it is $H^{+}$ Ions, not $H_{+}$ Ions. These should anyway be converted to mathematical formulas, using <math>...</math>. I won't revert as that might be seen as an edit war, however I urge you to considder reverting the article yourself, or give me green light for doing so. Hi, please read the context that the formula is in, and note that we're not describing the concentration of the ions, but rather the activity of the ions (the definition given on the Wikipedia page is somewhat deficient, but [3] and [4] should help clear things up.) If this is unclear, we should fix things in the text to make it more so. The more common (but incorrect for high concentrations) formula for pH is supplied immediately below the more accurate definition.

Regarding the particular revert you posted, note that I did have to merge in a few changes, so that revert is not completely representative of the work I did on the article: I suggest checking out this diff. I looked over the text and could not find any instances where the ion's charge was incorrectly subscripted, however, note that elements are not italicized, and ${\textrm {H}}^{+}$ is the proper way to express elements (this also needs to be fixed throughout the entire article). I think you may be talking about $a_{\mathrm {H^{+}} }$, which, I assure you, is superscripted properly (it's just that it's a superscript in a subscript).

Finally, even if I did make some mistakes in my revert, I also did many positive things (such as reinstate a deleted section, clarify about the literal meaning of pH and add a reference section). Thank you for not reverting immediately. If you have any more concerns, it would probably be a better idea to air them on the article's talk page. I use LaTeX outside of Wikipedia, so I understand \text{} is the ideal method, but due to Wikipedia's filtering mechanisms, it isn't accepted: ${\text{Some text}}$.

I was aware that the name had been changed recently, but I wasn't too involved with the change. Deja Vu, Synchronicty, Carl Jung

Hello, you blocked my IP address due to my correction of the date of publication of Jung's On Synchronicity on the Deja Vu page. The 1966 date that was there is the date of publication of a collection of works and not the original paper. I know the paper is not from 1966 because I've seen it in the bookstore with a 50's copyright date. Also, Jung died in 1961. Also, the bibliography on the Carl Jung page lists 1952, so I edited the Deja Vu page to match. This is the only edit I've ever made to Wikipedia, and it is hardly vandalism, please unblock my IP.

It's good that you're disputing this, I did a casual online search, found two sites that referenced 1966 and figured that was the correct date. The fact that he died in 1961 is quite convincing, and I believe you.

However, it would still be nice if you could find an online source that gave the correct date, as I'm sure another casual Wikipedian may see that and think it's the incorrect date.

I didn't think you had blocked me, but I went to the sandbox and it gave me a message that I couldn't edit since I was blocked. It may have been for some other reason, but I just assumed. :) Obviously, I was able to edit this page, and I'm not seeing the message now, so I don't know what that was about.

What's Zat?

I can use a mentor. I'm a hardware engineer primarily with a BSCE and 2X master's but have avoid scripts and more modern CS stuff in general with some cause--we all can't be good at everything. Hence my script and HTML and wiki markup skills are on a big learning curve. While I know 'about' the existance of the Wikipedia:(Msomething).CSS file (I know how to find the name when needed-I'm in a hurry now! Forgive!) that defines things like class=sisterprojects, wikitables and such, I can even get a good sense of parts, but I'm not fluent with such, nor follow your reference. Don't know anything about Unicodes and font schemes either, save I know the order of the latter matters in some cases (Indent and Space were one such) and that is messing with those on two other sister projects.

So what do you mean. Think WikiBooks template WikiPtmp shows that ugly square box when used in text. But they don't have the info box classes either. So someone that may know someone that can lead me to who can fix that over there is a welcome asset... as is someone who could explain what you meant with such a blythe query.

Not to slam you, but do keep in mind that there are a lot of lay editors out here! (Even if I'm only half such). I'd had a longer post to you but lost it since I overwrote the thing before previewing the message on this browser window while working over in another and needed to check a URL... Normally overwriting the address bar just means backing back to the edit page and finishing... but forgot the preview.

Yes, I caught that too. Both Tip02 and CrookToe appear to be puppets of Mattisse (more info at User_talk:(aeropagitica)#Comment without context). If you are an admin, could you put the puppet master tag back on Mattisse? It seems she asked another admin to protect her page, then removed the tag just before it was protected. Is it possible for you to have a look at the article 'Timur'? User Tajik tries to falsify the older text about his ethnicity. They're almost identical, so what you need to do is edit Ahmed Shah Abdali, copy paste Ahmad Shah Durrani over it, and then click show changes to see what's different. Use of transclusion?

Your post at here lead me here which lead me here looking for program help. I've run across the same talk page problem as you. Above, you posted

"If you initiate a discussion on my talk page, I will reply on my talk page, but, I will notify you on your talk page via a short statement (ex. ==RE: Subject== See reply on my talk page) and will do this every time a post a reply. This way, not only are conversations not fragmented, but you will know if I've acknowledged your comment."

I think it would be a nice to have a transclusion option located next to "This is a minor edit" and "Watch this page" just above the button where you "Save Page". For example, if the "Transclude this page" option is checked, this thread also would appear on my talk page via transclusion and my pressing the thread "edit" link on my talk page for that transcluded thread would bring me back here to post. Your responses, of course, would appear here and on my talk page. I think this will solve the user talk page fragmented conversation problem. I don't think, based on my knowledge of MediaWiki internals, it would be possible. There are multiple things that would need to be implemented: multiple edits with one page save, transclusion of sections (which the core developers probably won't like very much) etc. — Edward Z. Since my post above, I figured out that transclusion may eat up to much resource. 1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

While I'd agree that adjusting the position of the reed should be your last resort, it would be incorrect to claim that it "doesn't work". It does lower pitch (this is the same for all wind instruments). If you'd like, we can add a note to that statement stating that, unlike other instruments, adjusting the position of the reed is not standard practice. — Edward Z. Questions about Template:Ls

Hello, I noticed your ls template on meta and ported it on Commons, while modifying the interface a bit.
I also created (with Commons:User:Multichill]) a commons:Template:Mld template which relies on the use of the div multilingual tag and the ls template, , so users can enter a description of an image easily.
Some user on the Commons Helpdesk asked if it was possible to use the idea on commons:Template:Translation table which relies itself on commons:Template:Lan.
I did some test on commons:Template:Lan test and commons:Template:Translation table test test, but there seems to be issues when the inline paramter is invoked.
commons:MediaWiki:Multilingual_description.js seems to work in most cases for block being contained into div tag, except with the 'inline' stuff, which I assume that is why you created the ls template.
Is there any chance in theory to get the js script works with the inline parameter? Would it be faster to rewrite the Translation table to use ls directly? Thanks for your comments and opinions on the subject in advance. esby (talk) 17:42, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

I'm sorry; it's been a while since I've gone template hacking. If my memory serves you correctly, as long as you set the appropriate HTML classes (namely multilingual for the container, and lang-foo) it should work. I don't have permissions on Meta or Commons, so I can't really test. The individual language things might have to children, and not just descendants of the parent (if this seems odd, ping me back and I'll explain in more detail). — Edward Z.
