Not worth it edit

Sorry, I have thought about it and I dont think its worth continuing here. I would like to thank all my friends who made my stay worthwhile till now. Admins are becoming too trigger-happy for comfort and it is no longer worth making constructive edits here. Good bye, folks -- ¿Amar៛Talk to me/My edits 16:40, 11 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Amar, I dont think you should take this to heart. You are too successful an editor to let a mistake by an admin

drive you away.Dineshkannambadi (talk) 16:43, 11 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hey Amar, whats going on? Don't take any hasty decisions. You have been one of the most productive editors WP has seen in recent times, and your ocean of DYK contributions can speak for that. Just take it is easy, I know its not as easy I say, but still you need to reconsider your decision. You have got plenty of things to do still, like what you have been doing for the past year. - KNM Talk 16:53, 11 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hey Amar.. please dont be hasty. You dont have to blame yourself because an admin was incompetent. Sarvagnya 16:55, 11 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Incompetent? Personal attacks are not advised.
Following actions across other articles, I have decided to lift your block. In future, please note that 3RR is for single incidents and decisions should only be made on the strength of that article - and your conduct there was not acceptable and in no way befitting an editor of your experience. In future, please initiate such disputes through other channels. So I apologise for the 3RR block, but not for your incivility. - 52 Pickup (deal) 18:00, 11 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Did you block him for 3RR or for incivility? And how in your judgement was Ncmv not block-worthy? You almost make it sound like you gave Amar a presidential pardon. Sarvagnya 19:14, 11 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Not a pardon, but not the block log has been updated to make my apology clear. So I request 2 things: 1) Next time you place a 3RR report, please refer to related articles if there are any. If no supporting evidence is given, then it must be assumed that the case is isolated and will be treated as such. 2) That you, Amar, accept my apology. - 52 Pickup (deal) 20:24, 11 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

(outdent) Amar, I've seen your name attached to so many good, great, and featured articles here—it would be a huge waste to leave over this. Don't compound an admin's dumb mistake with one of your own. Take a break instead. priyanath talk 20:54, 11 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Don't go, your DYK record speaks for itself. And while you are (hopefully temporarily) away, the dip in quality article growth will speak for itself. That's something that 95% of admins on Wikipedia can't claim. If they left, the article growth would not change at all and there would be no black hole! That says enough about the relative contributions. When the great contributors leave, the team becomes less successful. Without you, the growth in Indian articles above start class level will taper off. That proves your value. Blnguyen (vote in the photo straw poll) 02:40, 12 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

DYK records and other contribs don’t permit you to do whatever you want. I’ve had a look at your history and other histories of the block decisions by 52 pickup and your interaction style, edit summary style everything. It strike a chord me that you were lacking of WP:CIVIL . And in future, avoid being arrogant. You read WP:INSPECTOR also and don’t try to take steps as an inspector. Contribute well, but keep away yourself of targeting others. :) --Harjk talk 07:31, 13 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Amarrg , We need you !!! These things do happen in Wiki. Come back strong ! - Tinucherian (talk) 04:22, 12 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

DYK edit

On 12 March, 2008, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Nalknad Palace, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Temporarily back edit

Thanks for all the heartening messages I received above. They did start me to think whether I had made the right decision, but I have not yet made up my mind completely to return. I still believe that my block was unjustified and hence that still rattles me. However, I would like to thank the admin (52 Pickup) for reviewing my block and unblocking me. I have decided to review my action and temporaily come out of retirement, just to work and provide help on the Kannada literature article which is up for FA. Once I am done with it, I will revisit my association with Wikipedia and take a call. Thanks -- ¿Amar៛Talk to me/My edits 15:03, 12 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Nice to see you back. Suddenly, it is spring in New York.Dineshkannambadi (talk) 15:46, 12 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Welcome back ! Your services are very much needed in Wikipedia - Tinucherian (talk) 16:04, 12 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi Amar I just learned that you considered leaving wikipedia because of something that happened? Please don't leave, there are many editors myself included who think highly of you as an editor and much appreciate all of your contributions particularly on Karnataka related articles. Take a few days away if needed and come back refreshed. Best of luck anyway and hope you can continue contributing and getting the respect you deserve . An article which you started, or significantly expanded, Epigraphia Carnatica, was selected for DYK! edit

Kannada literature edit

Amar, regarding your very last copy edit to the "modern literature" section, I had used spellings, English translations of names of writings directly from the books from where the material came. Seems like some of the changes you made are based on a direct Kannada to English translation which is not how the book puts it. Examples: Pragatishila vs Pragatisheela , Naku Tanti vs Naaku Tanti, ("Mookajji's Visions", 1968) vs ("Mookajji's Dreams", 1968), ("Flower from a Cemetery) vs ("Flower in a cemetery"), ("Place me not on your Throne") vs ("Don't place me on your throne") etc. I think we should maintain the spellings, translation given in the book (Sahtiya Akademi). Other corections are valid and I will retain them, but I think we should go back to what the book says for the above issues.Hope thats ok with you.Dineshkannambadi (talk) 12:10, 13 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yes. I felt so too about some of the English translations given by Sahitya Akademi, especially the spellings. But its better to err on the citation side, just in case someone calls in OR. In fact some names dont have an English translation at all. Though the Kannada meaning of these books is simple and obvious (for ex: Mouni), I did not add anything. Michael Devore also felt its better not introduce our own meanings. Sometimes, they have given a poetic translation, such as "Place me not on your Throne" and this I tend to accept. Thanks for the copy edit anyway.Dineshkannambadi (talk) 12:40, 13 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Realisation edit

It took me some time to realise what is best for me now is to do what I do best, that is contributing new articles to Wikipedia. There is no better motivation that this to continue my association with Wikipedia. Thanks for all the support I received during the period where I was feeling let down. Enough said, back to some serious business. -- ¿Amar៛Talk to me/My edits 09:35, 14 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi. I happened to visit your talk page via the WP:PINQ history. And the first message that I saw was your announcement on the probable leaving. Whew! You know what, I was simply terrified. We have lost many wikipedians thanks to similar situations. Please do not even think of leaving whatever may be the situation. Saw how many friends are out there?
Anyway, it's good that you are back to serious business. And I have replied your latest question in the quiz :) The problem is I do not have many good questions at present. May be I will have to take the help of the great Mahabharata once again.--Dwaipayan (talk) 10:10, 17 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
