Hello,

Thanks for creating article on Murudeshwara. Just for your information, I have nominated a DYK on this article, by having the following hook.

Also:

I expanded the article bit more and added the necessary references, and few external links. Updated the section name for 'Major attractions' and removed the sub-section headings in 'Getting there' sections. Added {{Karnataka topics}} tag and relevant categories.

Amar, you are doing a good job on various places of Karnataka. Already two of your articles have been featured as DYKs, Kuppalli and Murudeshwara. Keep up the good work.

Shivamogga edit

Amar, the Lion Tailed Macacaque does not really exist in Shivamogga district. Its northern most range is the Kudremukh region. Perhaps you want to take one of my images from Biligirirangan Hills or Nagarahole WLS, Bhadra or Bandipur (look in the nature section of my user page). Gaur and Chital etc are plenty though.Dineshkannambadi 00:20, 31 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

If it has appeared in the newspaper, then its ok to have it. Sometimes these troupes do move around and Sharavati WLS is not too far from Kudremukh. I dont have any hard ans fast opinions. good job over all!!. You may want to focus later on other districts of Karnataka. I put in lots of info into Hassan district but am busy with other articles right now.Dineshkannambadi 13:05, 31 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Madikeri edit

Hi. Expanding on the reason for my changes - Abbey Falls is not in Madikeri, it has its own article, and it is not appropriate to repeat it under Madikeri. At best, a brief mention that it is nearby may be appropriate. The transport to Madikeri is irrelevant, since there is is no rail or air transport to the place – I left the road travel material there, though it may also be a bit overstated compared to other places. Adding stuff on how to get there by rail or air for towns that have no such facility belongs in a travel guide and not in an encyclopaedia. As it is, the Abbey Falls content is clearly travel promotional material, and the air and rail transport material is not just irrelevant, but also again travel promotion. Also, the Kodava culture stuff is misplaced, since it also has its own article. If it was to be under a place heading it would be under Kodagu, not under one place within it. Thanks. Imc 09:15, 1 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Abbey falls is in Madikeri. It comes within the town limits of Madikeri. If adding image is travel promotion, hey, we got millions of articles in English wikipedia to clean up.Gnanapiti 15:40, 1 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Well, if it is indeed within the town limits of Madikeri, then so be it. Last time I was there, I was told it was several miles away (which is what the article on the falls also says), and I never saw it. (Presumably we're talking about the town, not Madikeri taluk.) As for travel promotion, adding air and rail travel information for a place such as Madikeri is indeed travel agent stuff; it is not at all relevant for Wikipedia. Imc 20:09, 1 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Mysore district edit

I looked at the article and made a minor change. One thing I saw (something I have learnt over a period of time) is that the web references though valid are not cited correctly. You need to use the synax I have used in the FA's like Hoysala Empire etc. You need to provide author, publisher, date on which you referenced etc. You will find may such web reference examples in my articles and you can use the same format. This way you can avoid conflict with other users. The web page by Arthikage is a good source of BASIC karnataka history and after having read over a dozen books on the same subject, I must confess the web page by Arthikaje is a very accurate, unbiased and factual. Most web pages unfortunately are not. Take your time, dont be in a hurry to finish all the districts. Research the matter thorougly so you dont have to come back to the topic again. Good going all the same.Dineshkannambadi 02:49, 3 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Mysore-->Hi. Create seperate subarticles for Mysore cuisine, culture, festivals, monuments, palaces, silk, Sandalwood industry etc. This way you keep the main article concise. Yes, Mysore being the cultural capital can quickly become a mammoth article and deserves to also.Dineshkannambadi 18:18, 3 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Mysore edit

You are doing a great Job. I hope someday you can cover all districts of Karnataka.Dineshkannambadi 00:20, 10 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yoga in general is a part of our culture. If that style or variant originated in Mysore Yoga kendras, it would be a nice DYK. But Yoga is not something practiced by the populace in general (though they should be) so you may want to put it under "recreation" or "health".Dineshkannambadi 11:36, 10 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Also make sure that all info that is deemed critical/important/interesting to the article is cited, not from bolg sites but from reliable articles, web source or book sources. There are always people who are willing to throw tags. Did I miss Somanathapura on the Mysore page or did you forget to add it. Instead of the Talakadu temple, perhaps a Somanathapura temple image (Hoysala architecture) will do well.Dineshkannambadi 16:52, 10 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Photo Request edit

Amar,
While it is certainly good to write messages in talk page requesting for the relevant photos, you can still use the templates which are meant for such purpose. You can use {{reqphoto}}, for example. This will also put that talk page into corresponding category, so that among the people browsing through that category who has the photo, can upload it to Wikipedia. Hope this helps. - KNM Talk 07:21, 14 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for population article. 9 million is what I have too. But somehow its hard to believe. There are 52 million people in KA (may be 55). Out of these if there are 35+9=44 million speakers, that would mean there are some 10 million people in Karnataka who cant speak Kannada? Thats hard to believe. However we have to go with what we have.thanks.Dineshkannambadi 13:42, 14 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Syntax edit

Amarrg, when you provide citations please make sure the inline citation comes after the punctuations mark, not before. Here is the correct syntax.

cited sentence.[2] (not, cited sentence [2].) Also please provide a "Lead" section if possible for Chikkamagaluru district on the same lines as Shivamogga district.Thanks.Dineshkannambadi 18:00, 16 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

"He published a handwritten journal called Susheela at the age of 12." Can you please add a reference to this?
I am trying to figure out the best fact out of this article for DYK. Also, the article needs some more expansion, atleast a couple more paragraphs. There is some more information from kn.wiki article which you have interwiki'd. Also, a google search on ಕಯ್ಯಾರ gives you handful of links, where we can gather some more information. Good job on this article! Thanks, - KNM Talk 07:28, 19 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Photo request template edit

I saw your note in Talk:Maddur vada. Actually, for such requests you can use {{reqphotoin}} template, by sending the parameter as Karnataka. Like, {{reqphotoin|Karnataka topics}}. This will automatically generate the message, Wikipedians in Karnataka can help. Also, the page will automatically be put into Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in Karnataka this category. So people browsing through the category, like participants in Karnataka WikiProject, can easily get to know which are the photos needed. Hope it helps. - KNM Talk 20:26, 19 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Udaya TV edit

Hello Amar,
To provide a variety to Karnataka related articles, created this article Udaya TV today. Googled to get more information on History, ownership etc. Couldn't find much. If you have any information, please add. (When it was started, how it was started, who started, how was it developed over the years, major achievements/awards, coverage of events, current president/vice-president, etc). I know some information as a general knowledge, but its better if we include them with citations. If I remember correctly film actor Srinath is the vice-president, but I could be wrong. - KNM Talk 04:37, 21 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

It is good that you have listed out the various DYKs you have created/expanded. Nagaradhane edit

Dear Amarrg,

Both "Nagaradhane" and "Nagararadhane" are right. Most of the Kannada newspapers prefer "Nagaradhane" and so does the general public.

"Nagaradhane" is a general term for snake worship in Tulu regions. "Nagamandala" is a component of the "Nagaradhane." "Nagaradhane" also includes another intricate ritual known as "Ashlesha Bali." While "Nagamandala" is considered as an expensive ritual, "Ashlesha Bali" is relatively cheaper to conduct.

If you have any more information or photographs about "Nagaradhane" you can upload it.

Regards,

Karnataka edit

Thanks for filling in on the Flora-Fauna section. I had meant to become active on this topic but was kept busy with other articles. I have some good books for this topic which I refer to during my wildlife trips. Hope you dont mind if I make a few edits here and there if I feel something needs to be added. At some point, once I am free from History articles, I certianly intend to create detailed articles on all the major WLS and National Parks of Karnataka.Dineshkannambadi 14:32, 6 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sure I will copy edit it tonight. One thing I noticed is that we dont need to specify every variety of plant and animal/birds. Only the ones that catch the eye ot the reader (ofcourse as a wildlife lover I realise the whole eco-system is tied in and no animal /bird is more important that the next). The important thing is to mention the geography type, the main species, the possible numbers with citations etc.Dineshkannambadi 15:39, 6 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Flora and Fauna edit

Amar, please add this info regarding UNESCO World heritage site consideration for some 10 WLS in Karnataka.[1]

  • Western Ghats—Talacauvery Sub-Cluster (with Six Site Elements)
  • Western Ghats—Kudremukh Sub-Cluster (with Five Site Elements)

I think you have done a great job in collecting all this info. However here is what I think should be done with all this info.

  • Create a subarticle for Flora and Fauna
  • Accumalate all mammals, birds, reptiles etc into independent paragraphs in that subsection.
  • The main Karnataka article paragraph on flora and fauna should only touch upon bare minimum

info one each WLS/NP focussing on the most important animals. Anshi and Dandeli are famous for the "black panther", Bandipur and Nagarahole for Gaur, Elephant and Tiger, Bankapura and Adichunchungiri for peacocks, Melkote for wolf etc. In addition to adding all this info, we need to mention other areas that are being considered for protection such as Hampi area for Otters, Ramanagara for Sloth bear and those areas that have been recently nominated as "corridor forests" for migratory elephants like Anekal near Bangalore. I will continue to read your inputs in detail though.thanksDineshkannambadi 18:57, 6 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Within the subarticle for "Flora and Fauna of Karnataka" we need sub-sub-articles for "lits of Mammals", "list of Reptiles", "List of Birds" etc.Dineshkannambadi 19:55, 6 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Amar, all information on area of park, rainfall in mm, % area should come with certian syntax arrngements which I will try to pul out for you. Meaning the "number" and the "untis" need to be seperated by a certian syntax.Dineshkannambadi 20:14, 6 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

You need to put back the citations for all sanctuaries just in case. also a common policy needs to be followed for animals and birds w.r.t. maintianing Upper case or lower case.Ex: "White Ibis" or "white ibis".Dineshkannambadi 20:25, 6 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Amar, I will go thru the subarticle "Flora and Fauna of Karnataka" thoroughly this coming week. This can be a FA in its own merit. We need to create sub articles here for "birds" , "Mammals", "Butterflies". I have no shortage of images for all categories. Thanks for getting this started. It has been pending for long.Dineshkannambadi 00:35, 7 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
