I really doubt AMIB is going to be able to do very much, but if he does, hey, a more readable template is nice. So good luck anyway, although I obviously like to think I'm good enough at template coding to exhaust all possibilities. -Amarkov babble 02:44, 11 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Discussion on different hacks

edit

If people decide to discuss it here, for whenever AMIB finishes. Or if there is anything about mine people want to comment on. -Amarkov babble 02:56, 11 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Interesting branching idea. I originally planned something like that, but then I remembered Eevee. -Amarkov babble 03:10, 11 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm not going to bother making it work for Eevee; there's no way to do that. I'm going to add an override to link a section of the article instead of fooling around with cramming it into the infobox. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 03:16, 11 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

That's much easier, except I had no idea that such was possible. I still don't think that you'll make backwards compatibility work without requiring the old parameters, though. Besides, on the ends of three stage evolutions, there's no way, even in theory, to get all the data without a new parameter. Unless you pull off a really fancy substitution from the pokedex lists. -Amarkov babble 03:19, 11 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Nah, no substitution needed. I've got a really slick, really lame trick to make this work, I think. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 03:22, 11 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

I don't think you do. The problem is, nowhere on say, Azurill's page is information that Azumarill is its fully evolved form. How can you get that on? -Amarkov babble 03:23, 11 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Oh, I get it. Yeah, we'd need new parameters, sure. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 03:26, 11 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Not very backwards compatible, but I knew it wouldn't be. If you can get your format to display correctly, it definitely looks better. -Amarkov babble 03:30, 11 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Okay, I'm not up to table hacking any more tonight. I'll work on this more tomorrow. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 03:58, 11 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm going to see if there is any way to cut down on the amount of ugly formatting (read: unintelligeble parser code; it took me 10 minutes to match all the closing braces) in my template. -Amarkov babble 04:01, 11 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

We do need to decide if we are going to actually use the new template.

edit

Or did I miss something? -Amarkov babble 03:34, 11 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

This code will be incorporated into Template:Pokémon species once we get it working. Part of the challenge is making it work until all the articles have all the info in place. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 03:38, 11 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

We could just put all the info in before changing the template. I hadn't realized that it was already concluded that we would use it, though. -Amarkov babble 03:45, 11 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well, right now I'm worried about the technical aspects before worrying about whether it improves the article or not. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 03:47, 11 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

So where are we at right now? Are we at a stage where we could propose one or both of these ideas to the PCP? --Brandon Dilbeck 19:59, 14 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Probably not. Neither of us actually has a good (and in my case, working) template yet. -Amarkov babble 20:03, 14 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Actually, I got mine working now. I still need to get an exception for when there are no evolutions working, but other than that, it's good now. -Amarkov babble 20:50, 14 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Okay, I got the exception working (although the entire thing is still ugly). It says "(does not evolve)" right now, but the specific text is easy to change. See main page for Wurmple and a very interesting Curselax that has Kirlia's info.-Amarkov babble 22:51, 14 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
