Your interventions

I see that you've been here for only a couple of months; that probably explains much of what's happened in the two cases involving me in which you've intervened. I strongly suggest that you get to know the project better before intervening in other disputes.

I consider, in any case, the Mediation cabal to be a deeply flawed notion, providing little more than a chance for disgruntled editors to try to get their own way when they know that the official/standard channels wouldn't get them anywhere. My three personal experiences of it so far have served only to confirm that view. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 14:13, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

  1. If you think that any of the above constitutes biting, you may have some rude shocks in store from other editors (though I hope that you don't). In any case, you chose to intervene in two disputes; if you think of yourself as a newcomer who shouldn't be bitten, then why did you do that?
  2. I carefully didn't say that you chose to mediate; you looked at the pages and issued your verdicts, all without discussing the matter with the participants (or even informing one of them). Mediation can indeed be a good way to proceed, when the parties are involved, and attempts are made to achieve consensus or compromise. My irritation with what actually happened was, I think, justified.
  3. I'm happy, however, to drop the matter and put it behind us. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 14:52, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

Sorry I didn't know if you should be included in this or not but since you have said quite a bit in the realavant talk pages and handled the informal mediation, I included you. {{RFMF}} Cassandra581 07:27, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

Joseph J. Romm entry

Hi. You added a "stub" tag to the Joseph J. Romm entry. I'm new on Wiki. I added some material to Dr. Romm's bio entry. Would you still consider it a stub? I think it's probably complete enough, unless Wikipedia needs more personal info about him or his past jobs? I came across a webpage for him that had more details about his past jobs (years ago, he was at the Rocky Mountain Institute and later the Rockefeller Foundation), particularly his work at the Dept. of Energy, but that's sort of ancient history now, and I think the highlights of it are in the entry. Please let me know on my talk page. Best regards, --Ssilvers 20:43, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your super prompt response! I removed the tag. If anyone wants to add more to the entry, fine, but I think it is probably OK for now (at least until his new book is published). If you want to laugh at the flip side of the bio coin, look at the entry for Joseph Volpe (opera). Before I pared it down today it was a ridiculously long entry. --Ssilvers 21:00, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

Stub sorting at Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory

Hi, I'm new to Wikipedia editing. I saw your name in the Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory history page. Thanks for your stub-sorting. I have a question. Is it ok to consider NPOL as a science-related article? What I mean is that it is a defence laboratory. Is that considered err...science-related. Sorry if I made any mistake. Thanks :-) anirudh 19:38, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. The oceanography stub is much better. :-) Happy editing to u too... anirudh 18:36, 3 June 2006 (UTC)

Need help!

Hi! :-) Inspired by you, I have started doing a bit of stub-sorting on a minor scale. Once I'm done with my exams I can try harder.

A whole lot of Indians like to take up Engineering as their career option. So we have a lot of Engineering Colleges in India. Entry to these colleges are based on examinations that are called by various names in various states. EAMCET is the examination conducted by the southern state of Andhra Pradesh. This article showed up in the stub list and I sorted it as India-univ-stub. Now, this is improper right? Others feel so too.... I searched a lot for a better stub, but couldn't find one. Is there any tag that is more appropriate? What should I do? Thanks a lot and sorry for being too much verbose. :-) --anirudh 17:03, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

Autoracingbiostub

here is a note to Matthead that I left -- and I saw your note -- please give me more details so that I may use the stub correctly when inserting information and articles... ---- kb -

A note of thanks to Matthead - I have been adding information about the automobile and motorsport figures I know, or knew, because they are not likely to do it themselves. Being born long before the current electronic technology emerged, they often are not much interested in computers and the Internet and, I find that those who are writing about motorsports now, have little knowledge of them. As these drivers, owners, inventors, engineers, mechanics, and constructors die—such as Briggs Cunningham and Mark Donohue—much of their history will go with them because they have not had the opportunity to contribute the kind of details that are documented about contemporary figures. They are not obscure to those who participated at the time. The sources for research on them are becoming obscure as people abandon hard copy references. When their peers, such as Lake Underwood, die also, those without these personal contacts will never know such details. Those deserving articles are many, and time is short. Just trying to cover details about a few, has been quite time consuming. Some of the WP histories are quite disjointed because the details are added by several editors. Those frequently require reorganization and clarification, if not correction. There is much to do. Thanks for the new location for the automotive information on Briggs, I thought of making a new article, but had little time so I merely added it in the only location dealing with Briggs, hoping that someone would do what you did, create a new article, thanks. I have just gone in and redirected all of the old links to the Cunningham (sailing) article that relate to the racing and automobile article under the name of Briggs Cunningham. Someone needs to start an article on his sailing history and contributions. If you will start a stub, Briggs Cunningham (sailing racer and inventor), I will build upon it and hope that those with greater familiarity with his sailing activities chime in. I might be able to motivate some... Red links may tempt others to turn them blue, no links can be ignored much more readily -- but, please at least put the names in black, others may follow up later. ---- kb - 2006.06.04

support deletion prefixitis

I wrote a screed in the talk page in support of deletion. Let's stay on top of this and see it gone. If the author cares, he can read my screed and a learn a few things about why his contributions would be more valued if enacted differently. MaxEnt 17:55, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

{{ict-company-stub}}

The category was renamed to Category:Information technology company stubs, and the template was not changed. I've listed it at WP:WSS/ST (basically, it all has been agreed on at WP:SFD). Hope that helps. Conscious 19:21, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

Of course! Your name means "toiling" in Hebrew. You must work very hard.

Stub Sorting Question...

Why is microcomputer more specific than PDA? A PDA is a type of microcomputer, so I am a bit confused by this edit of yours. I am going to go ahead and revert, but if feel free to revert my revert if you have reasoning. LINUXERIST@ 01:52, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

The main problem I have with the PDA-stub is that it's not supposed to exist. Stub types need to be proposed here before they can be created. I agree that PDA-stub is good, but it needs to go through the formal process first. I hope that explains my edit. I'm going to go ahead and change it back to what I had. If you have any more questions, let me know. Amalas =^_^= 22:37, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
Okay, I didn't take notice there was a whole process regarding stub types of all things. Thanks for letting me know. LINUXERIST@ 01:41, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
