Hello, Alyssakubs, and welcome to Wikipedia! My name is Shalor and I work with the Wiki Education Foundation; I help support students who are editing as part of a class assignment.

I hope you enjoy editing here. If you haven't already done so, please check out the student training library, which introduces you to editing and Wikipedia's core principles. You may also want to check out the Teahouse, a community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to helping new users. Below are some resources to help you get started editing.

MDD

edit

Hi, I saw that you had selected the article on major depressive disorder. Since this is a medical related topic, it is subject to more strict guidelines as far as sourcing and writing goes so you will need to make sure that you adhere to the WP:MEDRS and overall guidelines that are reviewed in this training module.

Another thing I must caution you about - the topic you have chosen is at Featured Article status, which means that this is considered to be one of the best articles Wikipedia has to offer, the cream of the cream of the crop. Because of this, you will need to review the article's talk page very closely and it is extremely recommended that you post to the article's talk page prior to adding anything, to let other editors know what you want to add, as the article's current state came about as a result of careful planning and editing. Something else that I want to caution you about is that since this is at FA status, this means that the article is far more comprehensive than other articles on Wikipedia and as a result, it may be harder to find material to add to the article and your edits may stand a higher chance of getting challenged and removed.

I don't want any of this to come across as my saying that you can't edit the article - mostly I just wanted to caution you that editing health related topics and especially an article already at FA status will be far more difficult than if you were to choose a topic that was of stub or start class quality. Rather than the article on MDD, you may want to work on the article of a psychologist or researcher in the area of mental health, such as Louise Howard (psychiatrist), Victoria Talwar, Helen Haste, or Wendy de Berger. The article on Wendy de Berger doesn't look to cover her work as a psychologist, only her work as the former First Lady of Guatemala, so that's a possibility. You may also want to look through the articles at Category:Women psychologists as well. (The reason I'm specifying female psychologists is because there's a bit of a gender gap on Wikipedia and as such, woman related articles often need the most TLC.) There are also good candidates for improvement and expansion at Category:Books about mental health. There are a lot of articles in these categories that could definitely use improvement.
