Just a little concern

Hi Nolelover, I just can't ignore few things. Not going in deep, just keep an eye on the work of User:Vibhijain, to name a few wrongdoings: adding too much red-links of non-notable subjects, adding common hyperlinks of geographical places like the US, Europe, Britain, etc, not following/knowing simple guidelines of MOS to start an article, filling [sometimes] fields of infoboxes with very weird terms, or at last doing nothing much to improve the article. Now, I'm leaving it up to you, because I know you handle these kinds of things very better. — Bill william comptonTalk 03:29, 3 October 2011 (UTC)

My apologies for missing this; I saw the new messages notification and thought it was only for the newsletter. Thanks for telling me :) Nolelover Talk·Contribs 10:34, 4 October 2011 (UTC)

A contributor causing vandal.

Ref: Pir-e-Kamil

Hi,Nolelover,an IP 78.150.79.236 (talk) is creating problems again and again with different IP Nos.I have also checked the talk page, there is also complicated situation. The contibutor does not to understand and nor want to accept references. It seems to me that he has some personal motives.I had found the websites in which the original Urdu book title of "Pir-e-Kamil" ofcourse cited the "pbuh",but problem is that it is not translated in English version.I know that,it is very common to translate from Urdu to English, mostly are different spelling, and some time not complete and correct.I had added one reference and cited to book title name (with Urdu version),and one in external links. But the said contributor remains reverting and removing the references, saying name is not in English version. If it is so,then question is that, that the writer of the book name was translated Umaira Ahmed, which I corrected as Ahmad, that was accepted,(not by him). Please assist and help me in this regard that what to do and how to stop him causing rv,(vandal)?.Please take a look at Pir-e-Kamil.Thanks.Ehsan Sehgal (talk) 20:53, 3 October 2011 (UTC)

  • In external links,I clicked it and found two websites,in which ofcourse, full translation is also mentioned.See it please.

Can you give your opinion

Hi,Nolelover,I had removed an image of Anwar Masood from Poetry, section Ghazal, with short explaining. But User:Bagworm reverted my edit, saying,Rv unexplained removal.

As I am familair of that area,I know that poet is only a comic poet of Punjabi, and a bit Urdu.In the article "Poetry",should be an image of any classical or prominent poet, not just a poet.I think that, but please assist me in this regard, that am I wrong or not?.Some time ago I have asked User:LadyofShalott too,but I think she is busy somewhere else, and I have also left a message to User:Bagworm on his talk page.I hope you will take a look at,as you always do.Thanks.Ehsan Sehgal (talk) 19:03, 6 October 2011 (UTC)

I will leave a message at Bagworm's talk page, but do note that he seems to be very active on that article and it might be better in the end to defer to him. Nolelover Talk·Contribs 19:15, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
Instead, I've left a comment at Talk:Poetry#Image in ghazal section, which is probably the best place for that discussion to occur. Nolelover Talk·Contribs 19:25, 6 October 2011 (UTC)

speedy and notability

with respect to Medinat Yisrael - Eretz Yisrael  :

The rule for a7 is that the article must not even indicate importance. which is much less than notability. Actual notability is determined at AfD , not speedy. Any reasonable indication or claim of importance or significance in the article is sufficient to pass a7. Thus, when discussing an a7'd article , I always try to avoid even using the words " notable " pr " notability " . It's possible that the article did indicate some significance, though certainly it would not possibly be kept at AfD at the present time, & your advice to the user was mostly what I would have said also.

However, I deleted the article as being entirely promotional, and being written for an admittedly promotional purpose--to try to spread word about something new which is not yet generally known to the public;. That's the essence of promotionalism.

As a practical matter, for articles of this nature, I often tag both A7 and G11 in order to help explain the situation more clearly to the contributor--and so at least one of the reasons will hold. DGG ( talk ) 17:57, 7 October 2011 (UTC)

Yes, I can see your point about promotionalism, but I do have one point/question about A7. I don't remember my exact replies to the editors, but did at least use the words "claim to notability"? As I see it, A7 (and CSD in general) is at least somewhat tied to notability through the "reasonable claim" clause. That said, I can see your point about avoiding comparing a new article to, say, the GNG, and will take that to heart; I guess that sometimes it is the easiest standard to point people to. Guild of Copy Editors September 2011 backlog elimination drive report

GOCE September 2011 Backlog elimination drive progress graphs

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors September 2011 Backlog elimination drive! We would like to thank all who participated in this drive. Here is the end-of-drive report.

Participation

There were 58 editors who signed-up for this drive, of which 42 participated. This is a slight increase from the July 2011 drive participation, where 39 out of 50 people that signed up participated. Thank you to everyone!

Progress report

During the drive, we reduced the backlog by 146 articles, or by about 4%. Overall we did well, especially considering the exceptionally large number of articles that were tagged during September. Thus far we have reduced the copy edit backlog by 4854 articles, or by about 58%. If we keep up our current rate of copy editing, the backlog should be reduced by 65–70% by the end of this year. End-of-drive results and barnstar information can be found here. Barnstars will be handed out this week.

Once again, thank you for participating in the Guild's September 2011 Backlog elimination drive! Our next drive will be in November, and we hope to see you there!

I created new article.

Hi,dear Nolelover, please take a look at new created article Haider Qureshi by me,please help me if any mistake remains.Thanks.Ehsan Sehgal (talk) 14:25, 17 October 2011 (UTC)

It looks great as a starter article! I'll clean it up a bit, but remember that whenever possible, use English sources. Obviously very few editors on the English Wikipedia can read Urdu :) Nolelover Talk·Contribs 19:53, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
  • Yes I know and thanks a lot for helping and correcting in proper way,I will replace Urdu references when I find in English, few links I found but when I clicked them, they went no anywhere,I left them. Here few links, can it be used?.

4.http://www.brain.net.pk/~urduworld/yadgar.htm

One more thing, can you upload a picture of Haider Qureshi in his infobox,I have to learn it yet to do myself. If this link is not copyright. Someone says it is copyright.questionWhat do you think?.Cheers.Ehsan Sehgal (talk) 21:58, 17 October 2011 (UTC)

(Image)

Well, he probably owns the copyright to that picture, so unless he uploads it himself, I don't really think we can use it. Sorry :(. Now, link number three, like you said, certainly appears to be good. I'm not quite so sure about links 2 and 4. They're just poems, so how would you use them to reference things? We might not be able to use link number one as a source, because it's a blog, but we can certainly link to it in the External links section. NLinpublic (talk) 14:25, 18 October 2011 (UTC)
  • Ok,I already had referenced (3),and others added in External links, which you gave them the name, nice. Thanks Nolelover.Ehsan Sehgal (talk) 15:07, 18 October 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of takethetrain.co.uk

Hi there

I have received this message regarding a page that I tried to create in June:

A tag has been placed on Takethetrain.co.uk requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion," which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Nolelover Talk·Contribs 15:05, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

I am assuming that that means that part of the page is classed as advertising. Is there any way that I can rephrase the information to give a general description of the business rather than making it seem like I'm selling the site. I notice that the Trainline have a page, could I maybe recreate one for us with a similar layout?

Kind Regards Elaine

Well, if your article was deleted under sections A7 and G11 of our Speedy Deletion policy, it means that not only did your article appear to be blatant advertising, it also did not appear even remotely notable enough in its present form to have a Wikipedia article. Now, because this happened in late June, I will admit that I don't remember the exact content, so I'm going to ask an admin to "userfy" the article for you. This means that they will re-create the article in your personal userspace (probably at a place like User:Dammsel/Takethetrain.co.uk, and if you want to, I can look at it again once that is done. Does that help? I'm sorry if it doesn't seems like a lot, but without seeing the exact content of the page there's not much I can do. Nolelover Talk·Contribs 13:32, 20 October 2011 (UTC)
Hi Elaine and Nolelover, I've had a look at the article, and I'd be happy to email you a copy, but I'm not going to restore it as I don't think it would be an appropriate start for an encyclopaedia article. "is a brand new" is a bit of an indicator that something is not yet notable. Whilst "We are a friendly bunch" is not the sort of neutral third person phrasing one expects for an encyclopaedia article. "we" and "our" are words that make it look more like something written by people connected with an organisation, rather than by independents. The previous drafted used the word we 15 times..... We have quite a few editors interested in railways, so when and if you start winning awards and the press start talking about you I'm sure one of our rail fans will write an article about your site. ϢereSpielChequers 14:41, 20 October 2011 (UTC)

Ok, that's fine at least now I know where I went wrong. If I were to rewrite the article from a different perspective is there somewhere that I could submit it for review before uploading to the main database? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dammsel (talkcontribs) 11:42, 3 November 2011 (UTC)

Well, like WSC said, the fastest place might be to just ask an editor who is involved with railway articles. WP:WikiProject Trains would be a start. As you can see from their list of members, there are quite a lot of them; the only slightly tricky thing would be finding a active one. If not that, then the Article for creation process is open to all, although that would definitely be slower. Of course, my talk page is always open too. One more

Hi,I have created one more article Jadeed Adab, please take a look at,and help to improve it.Thanks.Love you.Ehsan Sehgal (talk) 18:39, 19 October 2011 (UTC)

Jadeed Adab looks good. I've cleaned it up a bit, and more sources would obviously help, but it pretty good for a starter article. Unfortunately, I can't access the Twitter link, but I would guess that he owns the picture anyway. Nolelover Talk·Contribs 14:03, 20 October 2011 (UTC)

Hi,Nolelover, please take a look at article Pir-e-Kamil,and my talk page and talk page of User:LadyofShalott and give your neutral, fair and bold opinion according to exact concept of wiki policies and guidelines. Thanks and Cheers.Ehsan Sehgal (talk) 17:03, 22 October 2011 (UTC)

Invitation from the Guild of Copy Editors

The Guild of Copy Editors invites you to participate in their November 2011 Backlog elimination drive, a month-long effort to reduce the size of the copy edit backlog. The drive begins on November 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and ends on November 30 at 23:59 (UTC). We will be tracking the number of 2010 articles (and specifically will be targeting the oldest three months), as we want to copy edit as many of these as possible. Barnstars will be awarded to anyone who copy edits more than 4,000 words, and special awards will be given to the top 5 in the following categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", and "Number of articles of over 5,000 words". We hope to see you there! – Your drive coordinators: Diannaa, Chaosdruid, The Utahraptor, Slon02, and SMasters.

You Read to Me, I'll Read to You: Very Short Mother Goose Tales to Read Together

Hi! Just letting you know I undid your revision of You Read to Me, I'll Read to You: Very Short Mother Goose Tales to Read Together. I just felt that linking to book and illustrator was unnecessary and cumbersome. Feel free to disagree or whatever. Just thought I'd let you know and see what you thought. P.S I see you are also a Christian. Awesome! --Limolover talk 11:57, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

No problem. :) I was actually going though some articles that another editor had wikified for a backlog elimination drive, so I was looking at it more from a perspective of what he had missed, rather then what actually should have been done. Anyway, I've re-added the italics around the series name; I'm pretty sure that is grammatically correct. Thanks for the note. Nolelover Talk·Contribs 13:03, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
Yes the italics are fine. Thanks.--Limolover talk 04:57, 2 November 2011 (UTC)

Nobody check the results?

Hi Nolelover, it's really disappointing that nobody had checked the final results of October drive. In total, I wikified 55 articles, but didn't update the leaderboard table which still shows 45 in my account. I always thought that someone (project coordinator) would always check the results of [at least] people who belong to the leaderboard. I'm surprised and kind of disappointed that I'm experiencing this type of negligence from your department. — Bill william comptonTalk 03:26, 10 November 2011 (UTC)

And I shouldn't have participated on the first place. Wasted time updating the numbers. My mistake.  :) aηsuмaη ༽Ϟ 12:57, 10 November 2011 (UTC)
Woah, the rules of the drives have always clearly stated that people are supposed to update their own scores. So there was no negligence from Nolelover, the negligence stemmed from you. Ryan Vesey Review me! 13:22, 10 November 2011 (UTC)
Bill, as Ryan says, I assume that the everyone, but especially the editors on the leaderboard have updated their own numbers. Yes, I should have caught that, but I see no reason why you left that as 45. Having been so late getting the awards out in the first place, I was in a hurry to do them ASAP. Nolelover Talk·Contribs 13:38, 10 November 2011 (UTC)
Ansumang, I'm not sure I see what you mean. are you saying that you didn't wikify the 72 articles listed? Nolelover Talk·Contribs 13:38, 10 November 2011 (UTC)
Sorry about that, I've been so busy in RL that I haven't had much WP time. However, like Ryan stated above, it is the editors responsibility to ensure that their article counts are correct. Sumsum2010·T·C 23:42, 10 November 2011 (UTC)
  • I did wikify 72 articles listed. I meant I wasted time updating on the drive page. In fact I did more pages, but I leveled with Vibhijain intentionally. Anyway thats not the point. Thank you. aηsuмaη ༽Ϟ 03:09, 11 November 2011 (UTC)
Hey I understand what you guys saying, each one should update their own numbers. Maybe you din't notice Haruth also din't update. And by the time I wanted to update, the event was over with notice not to modify. And I don't see any problem being a coordinator why can't you update the leaderboard. aηsuмaη ༽Ϟ 03:28, 11 November 2011 (UTC)
Because I have so much going on IRL that I wasn't able to participate in this drive and have stepped down as coordinator for essentially the same reasons. I know that Sumsum and Ryan would say pretty much the same thing. I'm absolutely not being sarcastic when I say that if you think you can do a better job, there are multiple places where you could help out, if not entirely take over. As of this drive, I must basically end my participation in WWF. Again, apologies for the screw-up, but I think this is a lesson learned for all parties involved.
