GOCE September 2012 drive wrap-up

Guild of Copy Editors September 2012 backlog elimination drive wrap-up

Participation: Out of 41 people who signed up this drive, 28 copy-edited at least one article. Thanks to all who participated! Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

Progress report: We achieved our primary goal of clearing July, August, September and October 2011 from the backlog. This means that, for the first time since the drives began, the backlog is less than a year. At least 677 tagged articles were copy edited, although 365 new ones were added during the month. The total backlog at the end of the month was 2341 articles, down from 8323 when we started out over two years ago. We completed all 54 requests outstanding before September 2012 as well as eight of those made in September.

Copy Edit of the Month: Voting is now over for the August 2012 competition, and prizes will be issued soon. The September 2012 contest is closed for submissions and open for voting. The October 2012 contest is now open for submissions. Everyone is welcome to submit entries and to vote.

C'mon on back to the Teahouse!

It's easier than ever to be a Host at the Teahouse
Hi Alyo! The Teahouse has recently went through some design changes in order to improve it's usability for new editors and for our Hosts. As a former Host, we'd love to see you back. A few changes have taken place about hosting:
  • A new and improved Host Lounge which features calls to action and resources.
  • A simplified Host sign up process. It just takes a few simple steps to add your new profile to our new Host profile page.
  • Concerned about how much time you have to contribute? Don't be. With our new automated Host check in system Hosts can feel less pressure to participate outside of their volunteer capacity - only participate when you want.
  • Teahouse invitations are currently automated! We encourage you to keep inviting, but, there is no pressure or quotas as HostBot does the task for the you.

I hope you'll come back and join us, your skills at making new editors feel welcome and appreciated are invaluable to the Teahouse, and the Wikipedia community. See you there! EdwardsBot (talk) 17:31, 9 October 2012 (UTC)

Article for Creation about Bernadette Davis

Hi Nolever, I have updated/upgraded the article for creation on Bernadette Davis to include more official refs and citations. I'm sure there will be many more next month when her next sitcom series is shown on BBC3. Hopefully there's enough official referencing now and I can re-submit it again. (I have been having quite a lot of discussion on the subject with 'Cerebellum' since March of this year on the subject too!) Yours, Paul K. PaukiPKK (talk) 11:49, 12 October 2012 (UTC)PaukiPKK

I'm glad to see that Cerebellum has moved the article to namespace. Congrats! I know how much work you put into that. Nolelover Talk·Contribs 18:30, 18 December 2012 (UTC)

Hey

On a rather personal note, just wanted to drop by and say 'hi'. Hi! Haven't interacted in a long time. Take care :D Merlaysamuel :  Speechify  18:53, 22 October 2012 (UTC)

Heya Merlay :) Thanks! I'm doing pretty well...I guess I'm just not doing it on Wikipedia. I hope you're also well. Are you still planning on getting Doon to GA? Obviously I'm pretty much out, but the foundation of the article is sound, and you could certainly do it, especially if you grabbed an experience content creator to get the prose over the top. Nolelover Talk·Contribs 14:07, 29 October 2012 (UTC)
I'm quite well too. Nice to hear from you. Talking about Doon, i am interested in getting it to GA but not as excited as i once was. But I've just bumped into a very crucial paper on JSTOR about Doon School presented by AE Foot in 1947 to the Royal Society of Arts, London which gives us a comprehensive history of the school with specific names of the ones who helped it become a reality. Here is the link. As I'm a university student, i can access the full article but you may only be able to see the preview. But even if you read the preview, you can get a basic idea about how exhaustive this article is. I haven't even read through the whole document. This document, i suppose, will lay all doubts/confusions to rest. I will shortly start working on the History of Doon School using this paper. Cheers! -Merlaysamuel :  Speechify  17:46, 29 October 2012 (UTC)

GOCE November 2012 copy edit drive update

Guild of Copy Editors November 2012 backlog elimination drive mid-drive newsletter

  • Participation: Out of 31 people signed up for this drive so far, 22 have copy-edited at least one article. If you've signed up but haven't yet copy-edited any articles, every bit helps; if you haven't signed up yet, it's not too late. Join us!
  • Progress report: We're on track to meet our targets for the drive. We have reduced our target group of articles—November and December 2011—by over 50%, and 34 of the the 56 requests made in September and October this year have already been fulfilled. However, the rate of tagging for copy edit has increased, and this month we are just keeping the size of the backlog stable. So, all you copy editors, please do come along and help us!
  • The September 2012 Copy Edit of the Month Contest was won by Baffle gab1978 for his copy edit of Expulsion of the Acadians. Runner up was Gareth Griffith-Jones for his edit of I Could Fall in Love. Congratulations to both.
  • The October 2012 Copy Edit of the Month Contest is in the discussion and voting stage until midnight November 30 (UTC). You don't have to make a submission to vote!
  • November 2012 Copy Edit of the Month Contest is in the submissions stage until midnight November 30 (UTC), when discussion and voting begin.
  • Seasonal oversight: We had a slight fall from grace in the title of our last newletter, which mentioned the season in the northern hemisphere and thus got it wrong for the southern. Fortunately an observant GOCE member was ready to spring into action to advise us. Thanks! In future we'll stay meteorologically neutral.

WikiProject Wikify: November Newsletter and December Drive

Delivered by EdwardsBot (talk) on behalf of WikiProject Wikify, 22:29, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

Articles for creation is desperately short of reviewers! We are looking for urgent help, from experienced editors, in reviewing submissions in the pending submissions queue. Currently there are 2688 submissions waiting to be reviewed and many help requests at our help desk.

Do you have what it takes?
  1. Are you familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines?
  2. Do you know what Wikipedia is and is not?
  3. Do you have a working knowledge of the Manual of Style, particularly article naming conventions?
  4. Can you review submissions based on their individual merits?

If the answer to these questions is yes, then please read the reviewing instructions and donate a little of your time to helping tackle the backlog. You might wish to add {{AFC status}} or {{AfC Defcon}} to your userpage, which will alert you to the number of open submissions. Plus, reviewing is easy when you use our new semi-automated reviewing script!
Thanks in advance, Nathan2055talk - contribs

Guild of Copy Editors November 2012 backlog elimination drive wrap-up

Participation: Thanks to all who participated! Out of 38 people who signed up this drive, 33 copy-edited at least one article. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. All the barnstars have now been distributed.

Progress report: We achieved our primary goal of clearing November and December 2011 from the backlog. For the first time since the drives began, the backlog consists only of articles tagged in the current year. The total backlog at the end of the month was 2690 articles, down from 8323 when we started out over two years ago. We completed all 56 requests outstanding before November 2012 as well as eight of those made in November.

Copy Edit of the Month: Voting is now over for the October 2012 competition, and prizes have been issued. The November 2012 contest is closed for submissions and open for voting. The December 2012 contest is now open for submissions. Everyone is welcome to submit entries and to vote.

afc

I did not delete the AfC for Travis Haddix--in fact, I think it is almost ready to move it to mainspace. The key parts of the article are adequately supported by good references. The biographical details need a reference, but this can be added. We do not delete AfC submissions for problems like these that can be readily corrected. If an article is good enough to show notability, it is good enough to be accepted. DGG ( talk ) 06:34, 10 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi DGG, could you please link me to what you are talking about? I've been almost completely inactive for the last few months, and my memory's bad on anything before that. Nolelover Talk·Contribs 18:22, 18 December 2012 (UTC)
back in February you declined it, Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Travis_Haddix, but a later reviewer marked it as a BLP violation. I find it very cumbersome to try to figure our who reviewed what when at the current interface of afc, & I apparently got it wrong. Srrry DGG ( talk ) 19:52, 18 December 2012 (UTC)
Oh it's no problem. :) Yeah, AfC is not the most user-friendly, and the BLP decline is one of the worst of all of them. Cheers, Nolelover Talk·Contribs 22:53, 19 December 2012 (UTC)

RfA: thank you for your support

Nole, not sure how you found my RfA because I know that you have not been actively editing of late, but I wanted to thank you for your backing, and let you know that it means a great deal to me to have the support of editors with whom I have worked most closely in the past. Cheers, and I hope we see more of you as 2013 evolves. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 22:56, 10 February 2013 (UTC)

I may not be active, but I checked that "Remember my login" box months ago, so I'm always logged in, heh heh. Accidentally hit the Watchlist link today, and just couldn't resist checking the RfX report at the top. I'd have supported more strongly (it would not have been possible to say too much there), but I remember an RfA where a couple of inactive editors offering long supports made everything jump to canvassing accusations, of course. As for seeing more of me...well, this is about my seventh edit today; guess I have to start somewhere? Best of luck in the RfA; the 'pedia needs a heckuva lot more like you. I have gone ahead and reviewed the article. Unfortunately, all content on Wikipedia must be free, meaning that it can't be copied from other sources and places on the internet. It appears that you copied that content from a variety of pages about Agreeya. Please rewrite the article in your own words, then resubmit. Nolelover Talk·Contribs 13:20, 13 May 2013 (UTC)

Hi I did not realize that my text on Onvelop could get copyright issues since Onvelop is a product of Agreeya Mobility.I had also got my content verified 3-4 times by different reviewers on your talk page.Still if you do not find it apt to be put up on wiki could I get atleast the rest of the text back if not the one on onvelop. I will rewrite the content on my own about Onvelop. Regards, Onvelop — Preceding unsigned comment added by Onvelop (talkcontribs) 05:32, 14 May 2013 (UTC)

WP:GOCE invitation

Hi there. I wanted to drop you a note to see if you'd be interested in joining the Guild of Copy Editors July 2013 backlog elimination drive. You've done good work for the Guild over the years, but I noticed you hadn't joined the most recent drive. We've made lots of progress since we started these drives three years ago, but have stalled out lately. We need more help to keep pushing down the number of articles that still need copy editing. The current drive is already halfway over! Please consider joining it and chipping in a few articles. Thanks for reading this, and I hope to see you there. —Torchiest talkedits 13:36, 15 July 2013 (UTC)

Hiya Justice--It's great to see you're still around! I hope you're doing alright...I'm well into my university studies, and extra time for editing is hard to come by. I hope that one day I can return here, but until then... Nolelover Talk·Contribs 06:30, 15 April 2014 (UTC)

Motto of the Day Help Request April 2014

Today's motto...

The blue dye extracted from indigo is bluer than indigo.

Nominate one today!

Motto of the Day (WP:MOTD) is in a state of emergency and really needs your help! There are not enough editors who are reviewing or nominating mottos at Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/In review, and this probably means that you will notice a red link or “This space for rent” as our mottos for the next weeks and months.

Please take a moment to review the nominations and nominate your own new mottos at Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/In review and Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/'Specials. Any help would be appreciated! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 09:13, 29 April 2014 (UTC)

This message has been sent by pjoef on behalf of Motto of the Day to all editors of the English Wikipedia who are showing MOTD's templates on their pages, and to all the participants to MOTD: (page, template, and category).
