April 2017 edit

Hello, Alicia, and welcome to editing Wikipedia. I hope you have a successful time here. There are a few things about what you have posted so far that you should be aware of.

  1. A Wikipedia talk page is for messages and discussions about work for the encyclopaedia: it is not a place to post other kinds of content, so I have moved the previous contents of this page to User:Alicia Gonzalez/sandbox.
  2. The page looks like a draft for an article about management information systems, but we already have an article Management information system, and rather than create a duplicate article you should add content to that article. If, on the other hand, the page is not a draft for an article, but is intended to remain in your user space, then you need to be aware that Wikipedia does not permit use of user space to store article-like pages that are not actually intended for posting as Wikipedia articles.
  3. I very much doubt that one course at one university is significant enough to be singled out from all the courses on management information systems anywhere in the world for either for special mention in an article about them or in an article of its own. You should look at Wikipedia's notability guidelines to see what sort of thing is required for a subject to be the topic of an article. Putting work into writing an article on a subject which does not satisfy those guidelines is likely to be a waste off time and effort, as the article is likely to be deleted.
  4. If you have a personal connection to an organisation, you are strongly discouraged by Wikipedia's guidelines on conflict of interest from creating an article about it, largely because experience shows that editors in that situation usually find it difficult to write from a neutral point of view, even if they sincerely believe they are doing so. Furthermore, if your editing of Wikipedia forms all or part of work for which you are paid the the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use require you to state what your position is.
  5. Sorry if all this seems discouraging, but I actually think it is likely to be more helpful to let you know about possible problems right from the start, rather than let you carry on putting a lot of work without being aware of them, and at some time in the future suddenly having your work deleted.
  6. My advice to new editors is that it is best to start by making small improvements to existing articles, rather than creating new articles. That way any mistakes you make will be small ones, and you won't have the discouraging experience of repeatedly seeing hours of work deleted. Gradually, you will get to learn how Wikipedia works, and after a while you will know enough about what is acceptable to be able to write whole new articles without fear that they will be deleted. Over the years I have found that editors who start by making small changes to existing articles and work up from there have a far better chance of having a successful time here than those who jump right into creating new articles from the start. Of course, you are free to take that advice or not, but I would certainly encourage you to consider doing so.

If you have any questions about this, post a message here, including {{Ping|JamesBWatson}} in the message and ending the message with ~~~~. That will both add a signature to your message and also send a notification to me so that I know there is a message for me. Speedy deletion nomination of User:Alicia Gonzalez/sandbox edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on User:Alicia Gonzalez/sandbox, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. — O Fortuna velut luna... 06:50, 8 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
