Replaceable fair use Image:Georgiana_Rizk.jpg

edit

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Georgiana_Rizk.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast 23:04, 20 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Wikipedia. Please do not remove speedy deletion tags from pages that you have created yourself, as you did with K12 Inc.. If you do not believe the page should be deleted, then please place {{hangon}} on the page (please do not remove any existing speedy deletion tag) and make your case on the page's talk page. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. Thank you. Lilac Soul (talk contribs count) 22:19, 20 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sustainability NPOV

edit

While respecting and appreciating your attempt to maintain NPOV in this article I think that it is misplaced here. I do not think there is any defensible doubt, for example, that consuming fossil fuels at current rates is sustainable. This is no longer debatable or an opinion - it is a fact. The press tends to focus on climate (and water) but there are many other (scientifically well-researched) examples of our unsustainable human resource use. Granitethighs (talk) 03:10, 14 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

I have not read the book you refer to but have looked at what you have directed me to on the web. IMO it is arguing about the lack of detail in dealing with the problems - the inadequacy of the Brundtland definition and so on. The Sustainability article deals a lot with this perspective - try reading the section on "Definition" in the article and you will see that abundant consideration is given to divergent points of view. Also you seem to have misunderstood what I was saying (or I was unclear). We are "currently" living unsustainably is the message. You and others may believe that technology can turn that around and that is fine - the article contains a lot of material to encourage that point of view. Try reading the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment and research on the global Ecological Footprint. Anyway, see what others editing on this page think apart from me. Granitethighs (talk) 23:19, 14 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
Beckerman's views are certainly a minority position and his topic is "Sustainable development," not "Sustainability." Sustainable development is a notion that is problematized by many, and we reflect that in the article. The statement that AlexHorovitz was attempting to qualify is that there is "clear scientific evidence that humanity is living unsustainably." This statement is sourced. In order to modify it, we would want to see evidence to the contrary. Beckerman is an economist, not a scientist. I think we would need much more than just his assertions. Sunray (talk) 23:34, 14 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
Alex, I transferred the above from the Sustainability talk page. I think your suggestion would be taken up if you provide specific scientific evidence to counter the assertion "there is clear scientific evidence that humanity is living unsustainably." Speedy deletion nomination of Camp Swig

edit

A tag has been placed on Camp Swig requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for organizations and companies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. –Dream out loud (talk) 00:56, 6 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

License tagging for File:Jo naymark dedication.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Jo naymark dedication.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 15:06, 7 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for uploading File:Camp swig sign.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. (ESkog)(Talk) 15:24, 7 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Horovitz

edit

Horovitz a disambiguation page. It's just there to direct readers to the article they were looking for. Since there's no article on Alex Horovitz, there's no need to add that name to the list. When we get an article we can add it it then. There's a guideline on autobiography, in case that's relevant: WP:AUTO.   Will Beback  talk  05:33, 13 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Richard Crandall

edit

You edited the article to report his death. There was no citation of a reliable source, and I was unable to find one in a quick search. Please make sure that you have a reliable source for this sort of assertion. Deltahedron (talk) 19:06, 20 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Can I ask where you got this info? As a person, not a Wikipedia editor. I know (knew?) him and would really like to know. -Pete (talk) 19:29, 20 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi Sorry for the *very* delayed response. I was a friend and co-worker of Richard at NeXT.

File permission problem with File:Jo naymark dedication.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Jo naymark dedication.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 08:00, 13 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Problem with your custom signature

edit

You have a custom signature set in your account preferences. A change to Wikipedia's software has made your current custom signature incompatible with the software.

The problem: Your preferences are set to interpret your custom signature as wikitext. However, your current custom signature does not contain any wikitext.

The solutions: You can reset your signature to the default, or you can fix your signature.

Solution 1: Reset your signature to the default:
  1. Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
  2. Uncheck the box (☑︎→☐) that says "Treat the above as wiki markup."
  3. Remove anything in the Signature: text box. (It might already be empty.)
  4. Click the blue "Save" button at the bottom of the page. (The red "Restore all default settings" button will reset all of your preference settings, not just the signature.)
Solution 2: Fix your custom signature:
  1. Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
  2. Uncheck the box (☑︎→☐) that says "Treat the above as wiki markup."
  3. Click the blue "Save" button at the bottom of the page.

More information about custom signatures is available at Wikipedia:Signatures#Customizing how everyone sees your signature. If you have followed these instructions and still want help, please leave a message at Wikipedia talk:Signatures. 18:31, 3 September 2020 (UTC)
