https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rape_in_Afghanistan

This article covers the main topics on this subject but in very little detail and with few valid statistics. In doing research for another class I have learned that while the poverty and war torn country is struggling there are more factors than just that playing into the rape epidemic Afghanistan is facing. I want to add the effect of a conservative culture and cultural stigma to into this article as research shows it plays a large part in the underreported crimes. In addition to that I believe the suggested ways to combat the effects of the culture on reported rape should be added. It is also important to show the social stigma of rape for the victims vs. the virtually non-existent stigma for the perpetrator. The law in Afghanistan does not favor the victim, and all but works against them. The current article barely scraps the surface on the effects and ramifications of the Family Law that was recently passed. Unfortunately, child marriages are still quite common in this country and because by western, and in my opinion moral, standards a child cannot consent I believe that the prevalence of child marriages should be touched briefly on in this article. The UN has also gathered sufficient data on this topic, although as with everything surrounding this subject there will be a missing margin of unreported cases, to make it a valid point. The effects of war on rape rates should be addressed in further detail in this article as well. The practice of using rape as a weapon of war, by both the military and the Taliban, needs to be covered in larger detail.

Alex, I think this is a good topic but you need to start drafting it according to the Wikipedia requirements in your sandbox. Look under week 10 for specific instructions and expectations. In terms of citations, go back to the Sources and Citation training under Week 6. This link also helps: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citing_sources or if you prepare videos this youtube video is also helpful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FPuXchaSS08 152.30.172.13 (talk) 23:11, 10 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
