  • The reason for leaving open the possibility of more than two places is that some scholars, at least in the past, seem to think the fort of the Aduatuci themselves shared the same name. Not sure whether anyone would take that seriously anymore, but the word was apparently a generic word used for more than one place. At least two though because most scholars no longer equate the fort used by Caesar and the Roman city.
  • The fort used by Caesar was not necessarily in modern Belgium. The area between Scheldt and Rhine includes 3 countries.
  • It seems a good idea to mention Tongeren in the lead. In general the lead is now much shorter, not helping any new reader much.
  • I of course agree that the main proposal now is that the Atuatuca of Caesar was NOT Tongeren, but I am not 100% sure that this is unanimous and certain yet. I think in the places where this is explained in details the wording is careful, but in other places it is treated as certain.
  • Also, one possibility is that it was Berg, which is virtually a suburb of Tongeren. I never found an archaeological report for Berg though. I know there is a parish church on top of the hill so I suppose such work would be very limited.
  • Is what Caesar described correctly called an oppidum?
  • Odd wording: "settlement, of which location is unknown". (From an older version, so maybe even my fault.)
  • Seems to be a fair bit of material removed? As this is a work in progress, I won't spend too much time trying to work out which. But it is not a super long article.
  • Obviously material relating to Tongeren itself is not in its main article here, whereas the fort from Caesar's time has no other article. Caesar does give some details about local geography etc. and these are discussed in various commentaries about the likely location.--Andrew Lancaster (talk) 10:29, 4 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
Yes this is still an incomplete work in progress, that's why I'm redacting it in a draft and not directly in the article. Thanks for the first review. Alcaios (talk) 11:04, 4 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
